  1. Evening chic for women means a nice pair of pants or a skirt with a dressy type top or nice dress. For men it a pair of slacks with a dress shirt and jacket.  A golf shirt is not evening chic. The majority of women wear sandals. Not sure where you have seen sandals are taboo.

Your husband could wear slacks and a dress shirt without the jacket. You could wear capris or pants with a nice top or a dress.  People wear whatever makes them comfortable.

  2. I get the replies this should be a teachable moment.  However, it seems like a lot of clothes to take on a European cruise.  On most of the European cruises that are port intensive, people really don't want to dress up after a day of sightseeing. Does your daughter normally wear a lot of dresses?  A prom dress, IMO, is overkill. If you were driving to a port and not having to worry about checking baggage, then OK to take it. But you are using valuable space for other clothes. Then you need a shoe to go with the prom dress. I notice on formal nights, after picture taking and dinner, people change clothes into something more casual.

I don't wear dresses, only pants, capris, jeans. So at night, I wear nice pants and take an assortment of tops, some dressy (formal nights). Sandals or flats are my footwear.  Cruising is a lot more casual than when you went last.

  3. September is not a cold month.  Are you going early or late part of the month?  Even toward the end of the month, you can get temps in the high 60s to 70s.  I have lived in the Boston area all my life and don't even think about warm clothes in September.  If I need outerwear, I usually wear a jean jacket or light jacket and if needed, a long sleeve top or sweater.

  4. Hello Lois,

I have followed your trip through this board. However, I saw this on the SS board. So sorry to hear this after all your planning and anticipation.  At least there are people onboard to help you. I also travel solo and this is my biggest fear that I will be injured or get sick.  Agree with others on SS board and get wheelchair assistance on return flights. You have a good attitude and you're getting out and dining with others. You just have to make the best of an unfortunate situation. I'll be watching for updates. Take care.

  5. The more you shave, the darker the hair grows in.  There are options you can try, cream bleach for the face, go to a salon and have the mustache waxed, or there are tools for the face that remove hair.  Is there an Ulta in your area?  I've also seen this type of tool on QVC.

  6. I know they are closed today. The number from the home page is the one I have been calling.  I only get a busy signal.  I went to the SS website and requested a quote. I also called the number at the bottom of the form (2nd number from Cancun01) and also a busy signal.  I should at least get a recording when I call.

  7. I also make a sign OCCUPIED before leaving for a cruise.  I bring a thin paperback book that I leave on the table as well.  (I don't read the book. It's just a decoy.) At dinner, I usually go at the same time and sit in the same area.  The staff gets to know you. I let them know I'm getting up for a beverage or dessert  and I'm coming back.

  8. What I'm looking for is what transportation options are there from LaGuardia or Kennedy into Manhattan?  Is there a shuttle you buy a ticket for that goes into NYC?  I think I read there is an express shuttle from Newark that runs frequently.  Is this still operational?  I'm not looking for a free shuttle.
