  1. Looking forward to our third trip aboard the Ruby Princess this year. Currently in obstructed oceanview Emerald deck to save some money, as we did Caribe balcony last two. However, see that E731 still available...probably our last time on the Ruby, thinking of upgrading. Thoughts on this; probably about $300.00 to upgrade. Any one have experience on this or similar far aft stateroom? Thank you.

    Balcony is worth it.

  2. We've been waiting nearly 6 months to replace the stock we had in a 401k that got rolled over, and rebought this week. For the last few days it has been trading in the $34-35 range, near the 52 week low.

For those interested in getting the stockholder benefit this is a pretty good time to invest. Wish I could have just kept the stock in the 401k, but company would not allow a partial rollover and had to cash out.

    Makes you wonder????

  3. We are going to be sailing on the Caribbean next week and are not big on dressing up, but it is our 25th wedding anniversary so would like to on the formal night.

My husband had planned on wearing a nice black/striped dress shirt and dress slacks, but is not crazy about wearing a tie or jacket. Will he have any problem getting in to any of the dining rooms?

While you will see the occasional tuxedo, you will more likely see a sport coat, dinner jacket, dress shirt and dress slacks, or, a business suit (with and without neckties) on the gentlemen. For the ladies, appropriate cocktail attire, elegant skirts, dressy pantsuits and blouses will typically be favored over evening gowns.

  4. Has anyone experienced the implementation of the alcohol rule? I usually take on a bottle to have a drink prior to going out & my bar bill is usually healthy so don't see why line is ticking people off!!!

2 bottles of wine only per stateroom.

  5. We just got off the CB on Saturday (our 10th Princess cruise) and had our first real issue with customer service. I was wondering if anything like this has happened to anyone before.

When we received our final onboard bill, it did not reflect the $200.00 onboard credit we were supposed to receive. We brought this up at the purser's desk and they wanted written proof before they would reimburse us. We advised them that it was included with our cruise package (purchased through Princess) and it was clearly indicated on our cruise personalizer before we embarked. Since they were unable to find it in their records, and we were no longer able to access our cruise personalizer for this cruise, we were advised to contact Princess once we got home.

Once home, the Princess customer service representative could not locate this cruise credit either, nor could a supervisor, and NO ONE REALLY SEEMED TO CARE! When we told the supervisor that we would write to the corporate office, her only reply was that it wouldn't matter because SHE would be the one to read the letter.

I guess that the only reason we loved Princess so much was because we never ran into any customer service issues before. Lesson learned: Be sure to print every document you receive from Princess, just in case!

I print out everything, even my stock statement. Just to get my OBC correct.

  6. My fiancee and I have been going back and forth on what we want to do for the honeymoon....we know we are going on a cruise. I had originally looked at Navigator of the Seas out of Galveston, Texas going to Cozumel, Belize City and Roataan on a balcony stateroom. She about hit the roof when I told her how much it was going to cost. She prefers an interior stateroom because if she gets migraines the only thing that cures it is a dark room. We are planning on going August 30, 2015. We want to do a week long cruise and here are the other options we have...please help us choose!

Carnival Dream out of New Orleans going to Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Montego Bay.

Carnival Liberty out of San Juan going to St Thomas, Bridgetown, Castries, Basseterre and Philipsburg

And obviously Navigator of the Seas is still in play....also Carnival Pride is going out of Baltimore to Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay and Freeport.

We're first time cruisers, so we want to do something enjoyable. Thoughts?

Take the cruise that has the best travel itinerary.

  7. My wife and I will be sailing on Celebrity Reflection beginning Nov 22. Our stops are San Juan (evening stop), St. Thomas (I've been, wife hasn't) and St. Martin (first for both of us).

I know that different people have different opinions, and that's what I'm hoping to get from some more-experienced cruisers. For the latter two stops, would it be better to book an excursion in advance or explore the islands on our own?

I usually book my own; you will find many information stands at each port.

  8. Hi, I,ve just joined the forum and would like to say a big Hi to everyone.

I,ve cruised once before and looking to do some more cruises next year.

Started to lean toward the Fyjords in June, so hopefully will be able to pick up some tips from you.

    Mike

Welcome to CC . You can ask and get good information from your questions and see what others are doing in the ports.

  9. Hi I am a cruise newbie and cannot work out if it is more cost effective to purchase drinks as I go along or to rake a package. On average I anticipate approx 5 x soft drinks per day, a couple of coffees and 2-3 glasses of wine in the evening? Can anyone help???

I never buy the drink package on Princess I do get coffee card; I bring my own water, soft drinks also if I think I will use them.

  10. Hi,

We are planning to go to Hawaii on Holland America.

    We have port calls at

    1) Lahaina

    2) Honolulu

    3) Nawiliki, Kauai

    4) Kona

    5) Hilo

Does anyone know if we can get rentals cars within walking distance at any of these ports?

    Thanks,

    James

Yes you can, or have them pick you up at the dock

  11. We get back to Miami from our cruise at 8AM on Saturday and dont fly back to Seattle until very early the next day. We plan on dropping our bags at the hotel, (JW Marriott Marquis) then we have the whole day free. We werent planning on renting a car (but we could), we thought we would bus it, take a taxi or walk.

What do you recommend we do for the day, and should we rent a car? We like to try new things, our in our 50s and in OK shape. Neither of us are big drinkers.

Looking for something besides just sitting on the beach. What do you think. What would you do?

Thanks for your help, we appreciate it.

You might ask this question on your CC board.

  12. Cruisers using wheel chairs, or walkers, are included in this act. Now, should, ( or perhaps do,) they be permitted to disembark ahead of others, regardless of their baggage claim number?

We have seen them go off, like others. I f you think there might be an issue, have your number changed before you disembark.

  13. We have not cruised for a couple of years . Why? You might ask .

On returning from our last cruise I came back infected with a severe chest infection . Which persisted for about four month's .

We paid thousands of pounds to fall ill . Large numbers of people herded together increases the odds that you will catch something.

It is not worth it. There is no way to protect yourself .

No -one is suggesting that you avoid all contact with fellow human beings . But it is about odds and exposure .

Wash your hands very often. Eat with a fork, not with your hands.

  14. We are going on a Southern Caribbean cruise in December with our adult handicapped son who uses a wheelchair.

Can anyone recommend tours/places to visit that are wheelchair accessible with 2 able bodied adults. Places we will be visiting will be:

    San Juan Puerto Rico

    St Thomas US Virgin Islands

    Philipsburg St Maarten

    Castries St Lucia

    Bridgetown Barbados

    Basseterre St Kits.

    Thank you

You should have no problem, some of the ports I helped to take care of my brother, with no problem.
