  1. Always thinking of our next cruise. We have never sailed in March before and was thinking about either the Grandeur of the Seas, out of Baltimore or the Quantum, out of Bayonne, but we don't want the college kid spring break type of experience. Has anyone done these ships at that time of year? If so, how was cruise?

Spring break is spring break, you will find the families will have the time to cruise.

  2. Hi Everyone,

I am in a dilemma, and looking for some advice from those that have travelled through the mediterranean before. Which choice would you recommend

    I have 2 choices:

Choice 1 is to take a 12 day cruise on the Norwegian Spirt, from Venice (Ports: Piraeus, Kusadasi, Istanbul, Mykonos, Naples, Civitavecchia, Livorno, Toulon, Barcelona), this was considerably less expensive than Princess, HAL and RCCL

Choice 2 is to spend 1 week in Rome, and then get on the Norwegian Epic for a 7 day cruise roundtrip. (Ports: Livorno, Cannes, Palma, Barcelona, Naples)

In choice 2 we would not get to see Venice, to those who have been here would that be a disservice to not see Venice after going all the way to the region?

A little about us - neither of us has ever been to this region, and are both in our early 30s.

I like the 1 week in Rome, choice #2

  3. I have not cruised for 20 some years and would love to jump back in. Need suggestions on which cruise line and length. The trick is I'm dragging my husband with me who is not a fan of cruise life but is up for the challenge with the hope of loving it this time around. His concerns in the past were formal dining times and dress. And lack of enough events/activities to keep his ADD at bay. I was considering either Allure of the Sea (or similar type boat) or a Celebrity Solstice class. I know they are different but they both appealed to me for different reasons. Best time for us is Feb or March 2015. Anyone out there have a strong opinion on what would be the right move for me. We live in California. Late 40's. Kids in college so it would be just us (its about time!). We are extremely social and hoping to find like minded others to meet, mingle and have a blast with. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all so much. :D

    Welcome back.

First I would pick a month to cruise, then the location where you want to cruise out of.

  4. I searched this topic on the HAL board but the most recent info that came up was 2011. We are booked on Veendam 12/20-12/27 and want to get information on convenient hotels and best way to handle parking in San Diego. Our first cruise out of SD. Thanks for any help.

Parking is easy, there are so many that will drop you off when you arrive to go to your hotel, take a cab when you disembark.

  5. I have been searching for 5 days on the forum and can not seem to find any information as to what the procedures are for doing a Back2Back in FLL.

We have booked the Eurodam for 14 days doing a Western/Eastern cruise.

Wondering what we must do on turn around day in FLL. Must we get off the ship? Or, do we somehow get cleared on the ship? Or, do we not have to do anything IF we want to stay onboard?

Thank you in advance for the help.:)

The info will come the last day.

  6. First time on a cruise

    Norwegian Sky 4 days Bahamas

    Sept 29

My wife and I have difficulty in walking too far. What are good excursions with limited walking. Are their good bus tours at each stop.

Also, can you go on your own to the Atlantis casino? Is there a fee?

Thank you in advance for any help.

I agree with the other posts, take a cab. You won't go wrong.

  7. I was asked to share a list, so here is my list.

Besides the list and talking about my list below, I have also attached a file that you can print and save to help you.

It is never too early to start gathering things up. I have started with a few things and just add to it as time goes by. Besides the obvious clothing items here are a few things I just can’t leave home without.

First, we have a clear over the door shoe organizer. I say clear because you would want to be able to see inside each of the pockets. This we would hang on the back of the bathroom door and place all of your little items in it to keep your counters free of clutter. This idea was passed down to me from another fellow cruiser so I don’t take the credit for it but I certainly think it is a great idea. I got mine online from Finger Hut.

    http://www.fingerhut.com/ProductGroup.aspx?offergroupxid=92929&cmCategoryID =search

One of the first things we do when we get in the cabin is wipe down all the door knobs, handles, phone and remote control with those Clorox Disinfecting Wipes. If you think about it, but the time you get in your cabin, another couple or family has been living in it for a week and has touched everything. The cabin has been cleaned but who knows if they wipe every little thing down. This is for my own piece of mind. So I would add that to your shopping list. I carry my Clorox Wipes in my purse because once I get to the cabin I do it right away as the luggage won't appear for a couple of hours.

    Other things I bring:

Ø Zip-lock bags – different sizes for many different things

Ø Hangers – I think you can ask your room attendant for extra but I always bring mine own. The room attendant may not get the hangers to you fast enough because they are generally still delivering things to the cabins, introducing themself and then they have to go to the life boat drill.

    Ø Clothes Pins

Ø Power Strip – not many outlets in the room.

Ø Extension Cord - I will run an extension cord if I need to.

Ø Alarm Clock – Some people just use their cell phones.

Ø Night Light – Cabin is dark, if you don’t use your cell phone for light then bring one.

    Ø Bathroom Spray –

Ø Landyards – these are those things you wear around your neck and attach your Sea Pass card to it. Front desk will hole punch your card or bring your own hole puncher.

Ø Bar Soap – I like to bring my own instead of using the small bars they give.

Ø Portable Ipod Speakers- so you can enjoy your downloaded Caribbean music as you sail.

Ø Motion Sickness Medicine – if you think you need it, some you need a written RX.

Ø Prescriptions and Medicine – the over the counter, Tums, Imodium, Pepto Bismol, aspirin

Ø Sudafed, tooth ache gel, band-aids, mole skin, aloe vera lotion for sunburns

Ø Cell Phone charger – you will need to charge up before we get home!

Ø Extra Camera Memory Card - Last thing you want to do is run out of memory!!!

Ø Extra camera batteries or rechargeable batteries and charger.

Ø Small roll of duct tape – many uses. One is we tape our luggage tags on our cases of water, soda or whatever else we bring that we buy at the store before we go to port. Duct tape has many uses.

Ø Small spray bottle.. use this up by the pool to spray myself when it is hot

Ø Walkie Talkies- we always bring them, keep the volume low.. Traveling with large groups on a large ship we sometimes need to find someone. Or if you need to find your kids. Please note this can be disturbing to other travelers so we really keep the volume very low!

    Ø Binoculars –

    Ø Rum Runners –

Ø Hand sanitizers – small kind to put in pocket purse or clip on landyards

Ø Sports Bottles – We use these at the pool and around the ship for “special drinks”

Ø Snack Items We have cocktail parties in our cabins with our friends so we munch on snack or salty items. We buy these at the store before we go to the port.

    o Ritz Crackers

    o Cheese in Can

    o Nuts

    o Cookies

    o Candy

o Plastic Glasses as the ones in the cabin are too small.

o Powdered Crystal Light – for our bottled water

Ø Small Rolling Ice Chest – We bring this to keep our drinks really cold in our room. The room attendant will fill it with ice daily for us. Got mine on ebay.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/52-Can-Collapsible-Rolling-Cooler-Orange-Grey-W-Tags_W0QQitemZ140292469301QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_De faultDomain_0?hash=item140292469301&_trksid=p3286. c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39 %3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

Ø Suitcase Scale – We bring one of those luggage weight scales to we can make sure we are within our weight limits as we fly.

v We bring lots of one dollar bills for tipping.

v We tie bright colored ribbon on our suitcases to help us identify them.

v Bungee Cord - Brought a bungee cord to secure a door that we wanted to keep open from banging. We once had all of our cabins next to each other and had the doors to the balconies opened up all the way. Our door kept banging.. so this helped it to stop.

They say that the cabins have hair dryers and robes in (some) them. AND get some water (aqua) shoes for going on shore, you will want them in the water. I think this is about all I have unless I forgot something. And I know that if you pack your clothes in dry cleaner bags that they will not wrinkle. Tips for packing: http://www.fodors.com/news/story_1449.html

Besides the copies of the passports I also call our credit card companies and give them the dates we will be traveling so they will not lock down our account thinking the card was stolen. If they tried to call us, we would not be home to answer the phone!! Sooooooo call your credit card companies and let them know.

    and FINALLY....

Don't go on your cruise without hearing from the CRUISE DIVA... I find all my best stuff here!!!

On the web you search for "cruisediva dot com".

Great list, I see you have in less than 300 days for your next one. Have a good one. Don't being too much, you have to take all that back with you.

  8. I just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone that replies to these threads especially in the First Time Cruisers board. The experiences, tips, suggestions, "rules" etc. have helped me tremendously. I have learned so much since I joined CC and I can't wait for my first cruise! :)

You are most welcome, have a good cruise in 53 days.:D

  9. We are going on our first cruise to the Eastern Carribean in December on Carnival.

We are debating on which dining option to pick. Please can you help with pros and cons? Family of 4, two adults and two kids aged 8 and 9.

I saw some thread say the you miss the sunsets if you take early. And that you miss the shows if you take the late dining. Also don't want to rushed from ports...

    Suggestions please? Thanks!!

  10. Sailors' superstitions have been superstitions particular to sailors or mariners, and which traditionally have been common around the world. Some of these beliefs are popular superstitions, while others are actually better described as traditions, stories, lore, tropes, myths, or legend.

The origins of many of these superstitions are based in the inherent risks of sailing, and luck, either good or bad, as well as portents and omens that would be given associative meaning in relation to the life of a mariner, sailor, fisherman or a crew in general.

  11. Hi all,

This is my first post. :)

We are going on our very first cruise in a few weeks with Celebrity.

I have been told that you can't take certain types of electrical equipment on board, is this correct? I know they have hairdryers, but I like to use my own and I also have a straightener, which is my must have.

I have enjoyed reading your posts, very informative.

    Thanks

    No Problem. :)

  12. That is sometimes an issue with the site you mention and often has more to do with interfaces with the line's system. Any quote you get quickly is auto-generated, not done by an agent. Plus, we always speak directly with an agent with any TA and discuss options.

I will take the $thousands and thousands of OBCs we've received over the years from TAs over a bit of inconvenience, but that is just my opinion. YMMV.

Just ask the TA what you want or book with someone other. You can or may get more from another .

  14. Hi

My good lady was wondering if anyone can explain what is the difference between the classic and premium non alcholic drink packages.

Have looked on the celeb website but a bit vague.

Can you get non alcholic cocktails with the classic package?

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

    Jazz:)

You can have room service bring a frozen fruit drink (smoothie), with no charge. It's has been a long time ago and they did this for me with no charge.

  15. Hi,

We are taking our first Celebrity Cruise in December on the Solstice and are very much looking forward to enjoying Celebrities hospitality.

Our booking is for a Sky Suite. We are very boring and drink lots of bottled water and maybe one cup of tea or hot chocolate a day.

Do we need to purchase the non-alcoholic drinks package, or does unlimited bottled water come as an inclusion with the Sky Suite? It doesn't have to be a premium brand, a standard water is fine.

I'm just trying to budget what extra's we need on the ship, and I am trying to work out if I need to buy the drinks package for plain water only

Thanks for your time to any who reply. Much appreciated.

    Cheers, Christine.

Bring your water on the ship. Tape it up with packing tape (the clear) one.

I have done this many times. Oh, put a luggage tag on it with tape, they will bring it to your cabin.

  16. Hi All-

I typically do not get sick or feel sea-sickness. I bought Sailors Secret (ginger pills) last cruise as precaution... I didn't get sick so not sure if they worked or not.

The thing with Sailors Secret and I get it... it says Sailor on it so mostly ALL reviews are for people on cruises/boats/scuba...However, these are 250mg per capsule so it says to take 4 per serving (to reach 1000mg)...they only give 36 ct in the box.

Since this is the only ingredient I was thinking of buying Natures Way Ginger Root Pills... these are 550mg per capsule. So I basically can buy a bottle of 100 for like $5... and I will only need to take 2 per serving and have tons of extras.

My question in posting this... is anyone familiar with both products or maybe have been in the same boat and tried the Natures Way instead - maybe a large family, long cruise, etc. Its not really even the cost although this would cost $7.50 shipped vs $14.. but the fact of taking 2 pills instead of 4.

I really believe they are the same thing, just the one is not branded for the Seas, and just ginger pills.

Figured I would post this here as people may have thought the same thing as me and have tried these instead.

    Thanks,

    Mike
