  1. You talk about taxis was there no shuttle bus arranged?
I saw only taxis. There might have been an "excursion" for a transfer bus. They had them on some islands to a beach.

The only free shuttle bus I saw was on Fuerteventura. it went basically to Playa Chica ---- not very far. But it wasn't advertised in the planner.

  2. hello Im now thinking we might just wander around Agadir on our own but wondered where we could exchange our money for dirahms ? can you do this on the ship? or is there somewhere in port?
the guide said to just use euros and not withdraw dirahms from the atm because dirahms are worthless outside the country and can't be exchanged.

So based on that one guy's statement I'd guess the ship has none, and the best way to obtain them is through an ATM within the country. Just withdraw a little at a time, maybe.

Of course where the tour goes, vendors accept euros. Not sure about normal stores in town.

  3. Hi did you do any of the ships tours ? we are wondering what to do while in Agadir its a long stop off

The first tour I took I enjoyed. I traveled with a dinner table mate who'd done the same tour the previous week, so she let me know what to expect.

    It was called:

    FASCINATING AGADIR

    17 € CHILDS 25 € ADULTS

Discover the charms of multifaceted Agadir. Descubre Agadir from the Kasbah, an ancient fortress that defended this fantastic city, devastated on two occasions by two earthquakes Today, modern architecture dominates this port city.

The vibrant centre is filled with restaurants, shops and cafes that will entice you to spend a beautiful day in this eclectic city. Check out sights including the central post office, the new council and the court of justice. During the tour make sure to check out the 'Fantasy' show, a highlight of the Berber lifestyle.

You're mostly on a bus. And they make you check out the Fantasy show (no choice as implied) but it's terrific. Get a good view front and center, where the carpet is laid out on the bricks. Skip the biscuits. Grab a tea to go. Skip the bazaar shopping. Securing a seat is most important.

And you'll get a short stop at a souk for more shopping. And you'll stop at a "pharmacy" where they'll describe and let you sample the miracle cure-all Argan oil and all its lotions and perfumes. Read up on it because they supposedly have great prices. Also check on US customs limitations on spices packaging and what not. I didn't buy anything.

Finally you'll go to the Kasbah where LOTS of hawkers will be. Don't touch any animal or take any photos noticeably of the animals. The owners will demand a gratuity. (In fact anywhere in Morrocco, uninvited photos of humans seem to be frowned upon and some will demand a gratuity.) And if you show any interest, will follow you the entire visit. Unless of course you Are interested and willing to pay. They are earning a living.

For the next week, I splurged and took the 11 (for us 12) hour tour to Marrakech.

    WONDERS OF MARRAKECH

    62 € CHILDS 88 € ADULTS

Moroccan folklore and culture come to life in Marrakech

Discover the city of Marrakech through such popular sites as the Koutoubia Mosque, the Ben Youssef Mosque or Sultan Merinide Abou El Hassan School. Make sure to check out Bahia palace and Dar Si Said, which now is a museum that houses the major works of Moroccan art. In this city, one of the most important in Morocco, you will have the opportunity to see the remains of the Badii Palace and get to know the history of Marrakech. From the Menara pavilion you can take in incredible views of the Atlas Mountains. Later, head to the Laghzal, Zarbia or Btlana souks, where you can find everything you could ever want And more! During your visit we'll drop in on Bahia Palace, the Andalusian-style residence of Sultan Moulay El Hassan Ahmed Ba's vizier. And do not miss Djemaa el Fna square, the city's focal point, where you can take in authentic Moroccan folklore. Lunch included

They talk a lot in the description, but you really just go to the Bahia, the lunch restaurant and then a "pharmacy" inside the souk where again they talk about the wonders of Argan oil. I asked politely to just skip the pharmacy and toured the souk alone, after confirming the bus location (the aforementioned square) and meetup time, 3:30 which turned into 4 when people leaving the pharmacy protested at their short souk time.

It was very interesting and depressing seeing all these vendors selling such similar stuff. The Agadir souk was enough of an experience for me to match Marrakech. However a real shopper would probably demand the more choices at Marrakech. There were some nice actual, real shops rather than stalls in the souk too. I even happened upon the chicken area where there were a dozen of stalls of live chickens.

The others had a much shorter time in the souk. And a couple got lost. Somehow the guide found them and we arrived at port an hour after sailaway!

I noticed at our pit stop on the way, that a much smaller bus was carrying a group of passengers with no numbered stickers on their shirts. A member of the Shore Excursions team was walking about and he said they were on a private tour, not a ship's tour. There were about 15 of them. My point is that you can do a private Marrakech tour. Their guide was in full Morroccon garb.

Edited to add the lunch was terrific. Delicious, abundant, and nice entertainment from drummers and ladies.

  4. Depends on your level of comfort. it doesn't seem to be forbidden, as there are lots of taxis. You can't really walk from the ship. The port is too remote.

And Agadir has a huge beach.

I went on a ship's excursion both tinted.

Oops.... both times, not both tinted.

  5. Hi, I am doing this cruise Jan 13, haven't seen a roll call yet. This will be my third Pullmantur cruise as a solo traveler. Is it safe to walk in Morocco or better to do an excursion?

  6. Thank you for this thread, Tiger-1! I will be taking this cruise in February as a solo cruiser and appreciate you providing the ongoing details of your trip. TDoes the Horizon have an walking/jogging track?
there is no official track, however deck 8 is typical veranda u shaped most of the ship except theatre. Good for walking. But lots of smokers!

And deck 12 has a full ellipse, but dodging sunbathers...

But at non peak hours it would work.

Many of the Canary ports have good running paths along the shore.

  7. I hope we do not intrude too much on your cruise, thanks once again.

I asked about excursions and language because after booking we went on a Celebrity Med cruise and one of the guides said she had been helping some Pullmantur guests because their guide was not speaking any English and they did not even know what time the excursion was leaving t go back to the ship!

No problems. I just didn't want to get too specific in detail about the particular excursion, i.e. was it worth it, etc.

Perhaps the ones that got cancelled didn't have enough non-spanish speakers, but I didn't get that impression from the staff.

For the people that didn't know when to meet back at the bus.... that's kind of their fault for not verifying, but we don't know what really happened.

Every excursion had an English speaking guide.

  8. Thank you so much for your posting, I am following every bit and find it very informative. I am booked on a May sailing to the Norwegian Fjords, and like others could find very little information on the website. We are going with an open mind and an adventurous spirit.

We are sailing in the Waves Black level - do you see any noticeable difference in perks for these passengers?

Noticeable to me is a private seating area at rendezvous lounge (But it's a horrible view of band if any), and a not private yet locked, separate sundeck of fourteen padded loungers.

Not noticeable is the private dining room.

Maybe bath robes too. Seen seldom.

  9. Here are the current wifi packages.

The paper was in room day 1.

The screenshots are from connecting to Horizon's wifi on today, day 2 (So daily package prices are discounted.)

But when I connected to wifi, I tried to see what I could do without paying. I clicked the menu button (three lines at top) and the "Zona Communal" or "community zone" if I chose English, I got these choices:

Clicking the "pullmantur app" brings up a webpage very similar to the NCL iConcierge app.

I haven't been able to test with other cruisers but it looks like you can use this to text others while onboard.

And the itinerary of day's events is on there too.

  10. Have I posted the spa menu?

I'm sure you can get a discount if you act like you need convincing when discussing the options with a spa person. (In other words, don't just book over the phone.)

  11. As far as excursions go. I booked the precruise Siete package special for active excursions, like hiking and surfing. Four of the six were cancelled due to disinterest.

In many ports only two to four excursions had any interest. Therefore several buses went to same places.

But all non-spanish speakers were put on a single bus together... with Spaniards. So the guides spoke in Spanish and then English. However I noticed one guide who spoke for ten minutes in Spanish and then only four in English so....

In general there were always some passengers who were talking over both languages regardless of their nationality. But the bus speakers are plenty loud to down them out.

The excursions appear to be well run with caring guides and drivers. I haven't heard any complaints.

The cheapest tours are subsidised by visiting shops with demonstrations.

I'd go into more detail but experiences are so subjective that I think I'll leave it there.

Getting to the bus is a bit hectic. You're only told if you buy your tickets on board to show up at the rendezvous lounge fifteen minutes earlier than the meeting time. But that's in case you have forgotten your key card.

So if you are sure you have everything, you can show up at your meeting time.

Have your ticket and key card in hand and show it to the person with the microphone who'll be guarding a door. Then show your ticket to the next employee and say English to get your bus sticker. Then you go to the theatre and sit in your designated area and wait. They'll ask you to put the sticker on, tear off the ticket stub and wait. Then when your bus number is called, have the stub and key card in hand as you walk down the stairs and through security. After security you can put the key card away. Give the stub to the guide at the bus.

(If you don't have them in hand, you'll be asked several times to do so. It's just easier to flash them as you walk past the excursion employees.)

Also not shown online is a bike excursion that they do every day for 59€, but I could have gotten a 10€ discount just by enquiring with the guide. See imagee9637199329a0332d5773d620f543bf8.jpg

  12. Hope you have a fantastic cruise.

We do the cruise in March, those menus would be nice. If there is no refrigerator is there anywhere to get ice?

    .....

    .

    Many thanks

because I'm doing a b2b, I received a bottle of bubbly as thanks.

    4f2b464fbb79a6592625fc2eb2710865.jpg

That prompted me to ask my steward about ice. He knows nothing about providing a bucket or how a passenger would get ice.

But another passenger said they got their bubbly bucket refilled to rechill the bubbly from a bar.

So you're on your own for ice in the room.

  13. they have you covered. Just let them know. I received the disembarking instructions today.

And, because I'm doing a b2b, I got a letter for that too.

For leaving late it says to talk to reception. I found out that the late departure costs 25€, but you have full, normal access to facilities (No cabin) like pool, buffet, sauna, gym, coffee and the lowest tier of free drinks.

It appeared that they stored your carryon on too at reception. Luggage gets a blue color tag, I think, and is stored in the warehouse for pickup at will.
