  1. And . . . how could she have been surprised that the trash bags were so thin?

Doesn't everyone know which trash bags are the good, thick ones and which are the flimsy ones that rip? For her pure lack of common sense - that woman should have done home.

Honestly, I wouldn't have a clue as to which bags were thick and which were thin. I've never bought garbage bags.

I'm not a designer, but in my head as I was watching I thought of two different ways she could have used the thin ones. That she couldn't, and she's supposedly a designer, says that she's a very narrow thinker.

It'll be interesting to see if she redeems herself next week.

  2. So what'd everyone else think? I agreed with the choices tonight.

And I really like this season's contestants.

I agreed up until the final loser.

Sorry, don't know any of their names yet. But the guy that lost, shouldn't have, IMHO. His outfit was constructed the best out of the three, even if his choice of yellow gloves was weird.

I feel like they left Mr. Tan - who created a weird diaper-like outfit - in as a contestant because they they think he's going to be the next snarky little attention grabber. He's already competing w/ Christian from last season and instead of saying "fierce", he's saying ...liscious <?>.

And Miss Hefty bag was also terrible. She could have taken the thin trash bags and made something great. Crumpled them up and sewn then onto a muslin. She totally lacked any imagination when she realized the plastic was thinner than she thought. And if it had been the right plastic, all she would have done is make a leather-like outfit. I think she should have been eliminated for not having any imagination.

The guy they "aufed" had the most talent and vision of the three of them. I was really looking forward to seeing his work.

I totally agree with the winning style. A lot of imagination and elegance. Fit beautifully too. Good thing she had a flat chested model.

  3. We're not cheapo's when we cruise, we budget so we can enjoy our vacation.

To us, it's not a vacation if we only drink the plonk....errr, the wine/sparkling wine that's given out for free, or if we don't buy a nice photo.

That said, we're not junk buyers and I don't need more dust collecters in the house. I collect 'fridge magnets, so that's my one gift shop splurge. I'd never wear an ill fitting cheap tee shirt advertising someone else's product so don't see a need to buy those for me or anyone near and dear to me. I live in NYC and there's no shortage of cheap watches or junk jewelry. I don't buy it at home, so no need to buy it aboard ship! LOL!

We enjoy buying a few photo's and wait til the end of the cruise to pick out the ones we like the best. We've never regretted buying them years later, even if they do only live in the desk drawer.

We're not big drinkers and those mixed cocktails are so fattening, we stay away from them for that reason. But then we stay away from afternoon high tea (which has no extra charge) for the same reason.

We don't go to the specialty restaurants or for "premium" ice cream, that have an extra charge because it's our own little protest that cruise fares should be all inclusive when it comes to food. I resent the idea of better food for a charge and fear it will bring down the quality of main dining room dining if more and more people support it. On the other hand, I wish that caviar were offered for an extra charge in the main dining room, or at a classy bar. One ship we went on years ago offered that and we splurged on it a few times along with some nice bubbly. I'd never expect a ship to give it away free. When I see people pigging it up with extra lobsters ("cause it's free!") I cringe. I can only imagine what this kind would do w/ complimentary caviar!

Spa treatments are overpriced. I'd never get a manicure or pedicure aboard ship. However, I sometimes treat myself to a facial or a massage if I'm in the mood.

As far as excursions, we prefer not to travel with mass crowds or go on "get back on the bus" tours. Sometimes that means we spend less (such as a local bus or taxi) and sometimes it means we spend more (private tour guide). It depends on where we are traveling to. We let our personal preferences guide us, not our pocketbook. For example, in St. Petersburg Russia, we spent a lot more for four of us to hire a private guide. But on a carribbean island, we took a cheap taxi to an acquarium, not the ships overpriced bus ride. But again, the decision was based on our personal travel preference for comfort, not because we wanted to save a few bucks.

And we always budget to tip the ships staff well.

  4.

Not because the economy is "weak" or gas prices have "skyrocketed" - most of which has been conjured up by the left-wing media -

You mean oil isn't up to $125. a barrel, the DOW didn't plunge 400 points yesterday and the unemployment rate isn't the highest it's been in 20+ years?

Gee, thanks for setting us all straight with your purely unbiased POV that it's all obviously a plot by the Commie/left-wing run airlines and cruiseships to raise prices.

  5. Nina Garcia was let go from Elle Magazine Friday (March 11th) due to clashes w/ Creative Director Joe Dee that have been going on for months.

Apparently, the two can't play nicely together and he doesn't play nicely with many.

Here's a story when it was only a rumor about Garcia being auf'ed from Elle.

    http://jezebel.com/gossip/under-the-covers/jennifer-schonborn-out-at-elle-is-nina-garcia-next-255537.php

However, Elle loves the publicity that having Garcia on Project Runway gives them, so they might have her retain a title of "Editor at Large" so she can still sit on the Project Runway panel saying she's from Elle even though she's not really there.

Gee, I'd love a job where I got paid not to show up! :D

  6. Nice!:D

I've decided upon the full formal kilt so I'd like to wear either military accessories or something neutral that would compliment the outfit. Just so happens there is a Scottish clothing and accessories establishment about 50k from my home. I'll be paying a visit straight away to set things in motion.

    Repsol

    We want photo's!!!!! PLEEEEZE!

  7. I love kilts on men. I have an aquaintance here in NY that always wears them, and he's no Scotsman.

Utilikilts is an interesting company. I used to deal with them for a business venture. They have them in all kinds of traditional and nontraditional fabrics.

I think it's all in the accessories. As long as you "make it work", you should wear it and enjoy! However, be prepared for comments as to your Scottish heritage if you wear it with Scottish accessories. If you wear an american style blazer, shirt and tie, you'll probably get less questions.

As for someone asking what you've got on underneath.... well, what can I say? Some people have never gotten beyond the cliche's they heard in kindergarten and don't have much else to say. Ignore them.

Someone brought up sari's and cheong sams, which is an interesting reference. Cheong Sam's have become a part of main stream dressing for caucasian women. However, I never see non-indian white women wearing sari's - unless they have ties to indian culture. I love sari's but would feel odd, with my lily white skin and red hair, wearing one, but wouldn't feel odd in a cheong sam. But that's just me, I'd love for sari's to catch on for mainstream dressing. I think they're gorgeous and they always fit! :)

    rate_runway_38_414.jpg

cuisewear! (and I think this is the one that Jane110 wants!)

(Could you imagine was a great response you'd get if you wore this on a cruise?!?)

    Curt,

You know me toooo well! You're spot on!

Between the gorgeous color perfect for my red hair & complexion, the chic fabric manipulation which channels my love of sculpture, and enough material to hide my butt, this is my number one choice as a dress that I would personally love to own.

We could shop together anytime! :)

Oh....I have to tell you this, (but hope this doesn't jinx it), DH and I have created a new company which involves fashion and technology and someone I know that feels it's a home run is going to try to set up a meeting for us to present it to Tim Gunn!!! How exciting is that?????

Keep your fingers crossed that we meet him and he says, "I love it. Let's make it work." !!!!!!

  9. He seems to be getting more press than any of the other previous winners.

I don't think it's due to his over the top personality, I think that it's simply a numbers situation with more and more of the general public watching the show.

Anyone catch the Project Runway skit on Sat Night Live a couple of weeks ago w/ Amy Pohler playing Christian.

    What a hoot!!!

  10. I love the regular Lipfusion, and had a chance to try the XL version...let me say first, the main reason I love the regular, is that it doesnt burn-at all. It makes your lips feel a bit "strechy" but no pain.

Anyhow, I happened upon the XL when I was moving, and kept it with me (couldnt find any other glosses at the time) I used it about three times a day (The instructions say to use it at night) anyway, when I woke up- WOW! My lips were VERY noticibly bigger, and a bit irritated, but not too bad, it actually gave them color for a change. I just put a bit of regular balm on them & they looked great (and large) for another couple of days!

Bottom line is- this stuff works! I still use it on occasion, but never three times a day! ;)

    Not familiar with this brand.

    Where can I buy it?

  11.

No shocker - she lurved Christian.

She's an obnoxious boor. Simply an "it's all about me" type. A VERY poor candidate as judge IMHO. I knew she'd pick Christian because her selfishness only allows her to pick a designer who's clothes she personally loves. She has no scope.

She was already making deals with him 10 seconds after he won to make her a free wardrobe.

Seeing the collections come down the runway, I was impressed with all 3, but I thought Rami should have won. Christian's was my least favorite as it felt really overworked to me. I loved the individua pieces in Jillian's collection but it definitely wasn't cohesive.

I thought Jillian should have won.

Christian's was over designed. Certainly spectacular and fantastic but he needs more seasoning.

Rami's was gorgeous, however, Nina's right, he has no color sense. I can't help but wonder if he's color blind. He choices of color are definitely K-Mart style mass retailer and lack the elegance he has in his fabric selection, his style and his construction. His olive green gown was amazing!

  12. ROTFL!:D

I never said she dresses well!

I said: Also fun side note - Victoria Beckham will be the final guest judge, so she is VERY out there and fashion forward.

Meaning - whatever, and literally whatever is the newest thing on the runway, she wants to be the first to wear it. If she could rip the stuff off some of the models before they hit the end of the catwalk she would!

Doesn't matter what it looks like, just as long as she is "first"!

And she is so strongly opinionated in this "forward" thinking, that I do think it will affect the judging.

Okay, I'll agree with "out there" but not "Fashion Forward". If any of her picks are fashion forward, then it's pur coincidence. She picks what will make her like a train wreck - impossible not to look at.

I think she's a really, really poor choice as a judge. She knows nothing about the fashion business. A judge should be someone from the industry who understands the business from all aspects. Isaac Mizrahi, Norma Kamali - people who knew the struggle and were considered "out there" designers are best suited IMHO.

With her as judge, we know she's going to vote to Christian.

Personally, I think Jillian should win. Though I think Christian is a fantastic designer, he still needs a lot of maturing. Jillian is a great designer also, yet also understands the business of designing a lot more.

I'm disappointed that Rami is in instead of Chris.

  13. The question for me is, do we really know if one or the other had more input in the dress they did together? Everyone seems to think it was more of a Christian dress than a Chris dress. Christian was the winner of that challenge by virtue of his being the team leader which wasn't totally fair IMO.

Totally agree! Chris was robbed in that challange.

I can't see Chris winning because the judges seem to be smitten with Christian and I don't think Chris has a chance with them. I think Chris has gone out of his comfort zone more than some of the others and has shown his versitility and has not gotten much credit for it. I do hope Chris wins over Rami because he just can't get over his swags and jabots.

    Agree again.

Beckam-Schmekam, don't think it's hard to tell whose design she'll like.

Exactly.<yawn> She wants to hitch her wagon to whomever will get the most publicity. Her 15 minutes were over long ago, now she tick-tocks on everyone else's clock.

  14. I was shocked when Christian won fan favorite. I thought for sure it would go to Chris.

I'm rooting for Chris to win.

Me too, when they said it was a "landslide", DH and I looked at each other and simultanously said "CHRIS"!

When Christian won, we were at first shocked and then DH said, this proves one thing.....that young people (teenagers and young 20's) are willing to call in votes. Those of us over 35, simply don't. I think the teen crowd must find Christian's attitude not only acceptable, but even enviable.

Honestly, can anyone here say that they voted? I sure didn't.

So, I guess I can't be surprised that Chris lost, because I think that the people who'd vote for him didn't take the trouble to do so. But I am disappointed for him.

I agree with whoever said that the judges have under-estimated Chris and thought he'd be there to serve for comic relief with his drag queen costumes. He's proven himself a skilled and talented designer and I think that Curt is right. That piece was different enough from the piece he made w/ Christian.

I also agree that Carmen totally over reacted to comments about her designs. Her menswear was awful and didn't she send him down the runway without a shirt? I really don't care for her "poor me" attitude.

Victorya was definitely wins the sourpuss award.

I thought the show was a big snore and a time filler for a week when they had nothing else to do. To make it more interesting, I think they should have shown some of Michael Kors fashions from 20 years ago til today and I think they should talk a little more about Nina Garcia's work at Elle. Not many people really understand how the fashion industry works, and a little education might be more interesting than the boring "reunion before the show even ends" bit.

  15.

Also fun side note - Victoria Beckham will be the final guest judge, so she is VERY out there and fashion forward.

Have to disagree with you on this one Curt.

I think she's pure fashion victim always in a "look at me" ensemble.

I don't think she dresses well.

  16. Hi:) you know alot more about well made items than I do;)

But I must say I totally agree with you about Rahmi's stuff.

It is the SAME drape every week:eek: even if the quality is top

notch....isn't the point (partially anyway) to show different

    styles?

Even a novice like me sees his product is the same week after

    week.

Whether he wins or not, he's a winner. There's a market for his dresses and no doubt, someone will back him and he'll launch a successful line. Watchout Carmen Marc Valvo...your competition as King the Eveningwear is about to arrive on the scene!

I'm off to Paris tomorrow, so I won't see next week's show til I return. (thank goodness for TiVo!)

  17. I watched.

My favorite was Jillian's outfit. I thought it was a very good interpretation of the piece she chose. I loved the metallic gold dress - and the use of the metallic gold in the lining which echoed the idea of armor in the painting.

I wasn't as wowed as the judges by Christian's although it was a good outfit. I do think he did a great job of interpreting the piece of art he chose. I think I'm tired of Christian's attitude towards the other designers and that is affecting how I see his designs.

I loved Sweet Pea's dress. I thought it was a great reinterpretation of her piece of art. She was the only one that didn't choose a piece of art that showed a human in clothing, so instead of reinterpreting a piece of clothing she was actually interpreting the art piece itself. Yes, it was wearable - but that's what she does.

Chris - I liked the outfit he made, but I agreed with the judges that we'd already seen it from him this season. I'm glad they are giving him the opportunity to prove he should be in fashion week.

Rami - was the most disappointing to me this week. I loved the color of the dress, but the design itself was blah to me. Nothing we hadn't seen before from him or other designers. I think he went for the easy out.

In this show, I agreed with the judges 100%, which never happened to me before.

At the beginning of the show, Rami wow'ed me. He still does technically. (i'm an addict when it comes to top quality), but he's doing the same ol' thing. And this one wasn't even his best.

Roberto Cavalli saved Chris' butt. When I saw that huge collar, I thought uh-oh...not again. But since Cavalli hadn't seen it before, he gave Chris high marks.

It will be interesting to see how the Chris/Rami competition rolls. Unless Rami comes up with something really different (like the incredible Hershey's dress), he's Auf!

Jillian is incredible. Time is her enemy, but her work is high style, yet wearable, and couture. I thought it funny when Cavalli said he'd like her on his team and she clearly doesn't want to do it for anyone else anymore.

Christian is also fantastic. Yeah, he's a PITA, but his designs never disappoint and he's only 21.

I think the competition is between Jillian and Christian.

Sweetpea's dresses are lovely. Wearable and pretty. But not couture. She has a bright future. With the right backing, she could create a company that makes a lot of money with her designs.

I'm really looking forward to the show in 2 weeks!

  18. I've loved Rami since the beginning, these collections confirm those feelings! Thanks for sharing!

Me too! From the first show I guessed he would make it to the finals.

For me, the top designers are Rami, Jillian and Christian. They all have the skills to be real fashion icons and Jillian has learned well from working for Ralph. It really shows in her polish and diversity. I think she's got the mettle to be the most successful in all catagory's. Her things are very, very saleable. Rami is definitely an evening wear designer with a little bit of daytime. He could easily dress the Park Ave/Dallas society ladies and take over for Oscar de la Renta or Bill Blass. Christrian is extremely talented and versatile. Though he could use some charm school lessons, his talent will help him ovecome is personality flaws.

Chris is really excellent, but this runway show is not all that wearable. I think he'll be a very successful designer, but the other 3 could be real fashion icons. Sweetpea, yes pretty talented, doesn't have what it takes to have a collection in her own name. She's a great 2nd designer in a muti-designer team.

I really don't know who the winner will be, but I think it will boil down to Christian and Jillian and I think the meter favors Jillian.

  19.

My favorite part, besides the runway show, is the judging comments. How absolutely ridiculous can people be? I wish instead of guest judges from the industry they would have a comedian, someone like Robin Williams, making the final comments.

Yeah, baby. Now we're talkin'! But there's too much at stake to have Robin Williams comment. Nina Garcia...ugh!

One of my favorite movies "Best In Show" has a guest judge, Fred Willard playing the part. Something like that would be a kick.

You could be my movie buddy anytime! I LOVED Best in Show and I adore anything Fred Willard is in!

    Pass the popcorn girlfriend!

I'm very aware this is serious business, the outcome of the finalist and many of the contestants can have serious impact on their careers. I even think I've seen some similar clothing from prior seasons on the racks of Forever 21.

What I find hysterical is that "the winner gets an opportunity to sell on Blue Fly". First of all, an opportunity only says that the buyers will look at their stuff. Big deal. Buyers look at stuff all day every day. That's their job.

However, who would want to sell on Blue Fly???? It's a discount website that sells the unsold leftovers from previous seasons. Selling to a leftover " fashion grave yard" is supposed to be prestigious? That's a "win"??? Not in my book!
