  1. Hi, I have been watching the show too...though I rarely post on here anymore.

I know and I miss you!:(

Hi Jane, Cher's person was Bradley.

Nliedel, Hi, I agree....I am no fashion maven by any means but I

do know Bob Mackie, actually I know a few designers:rolleyes: geee...

Was there someone on the show that didn't know who Bob Mackie is?

I enjoy the program though and I am glad Michael won.

I think his pink number relating to Pam Greir was right on the mark.

    (That is just my opinion).

Michael definitely deserved to win. It absolutely captured the Pam Grier spirit with an updated, modern look. And that he switched from a skirt to well fitting shorts at the 11th hour is also amazing (though the judges didn't know that) I woudln't wear the shorts but I'd wear that top in a NY second!

  2. I didn't watch the first two season's of the show, but now DH and I are into the third season.

I haven't particpated in this thread because honestly, I can't keep most of the names straight. I know them by their outfits, but most of them, not their names.

The one I was really so sorry about leaving was Milan. He is extremely talented and that one brown dress just didn't "do it". Too bad he was thrown off.

I was thrilled that Angelina won with her INC design last week and she probably would have won with her Audrey Hepburn dress this week except they probably don't want to give it to a designer 2 weeks in a row.

That Audrey Hepburn style dress was a stunner - even Klum said she wanted to own it a a few colors.

The Cher outfit was just awful and the guy who created it (don't recall his name) should have been dismissed long ago. He can't meet deadlines, which is a disaster in the clothing biz, his workmanship is poor and his designs are lackluster.

Uli is a very strong designer. She has a strong POV, excellent sewing skills and an easy personality. Whether she wins or not, I'm sure she'll be offered jobs by many companies - as will other of the competitors.

I can't stand Heidi Klum's attitude. I feel sorry for those who are kicked off the show and forced to give her a kiss good-bye. How demeaning. Who wants to kiss someone that just gave you the heave-ho?

BTW, the building they all are housed in, The Atlas, is 3 blocks from where I live ( 3 blocks is a big difference in NYC) and I pass it all the time. It's a new building and they had trouble renting out the apartments because it's such an inconvenent location. So giving apts to the Project Runway show is a good marketing idea. I'll bet rentals are up now!

  3. Hlitner,

I've also been on these boards for years and have seen the "tour vs independent travel" points of view. I don't doubt your word, but I've never seen or can't imagine anyone being flamed because they feel travelling independently is better.

DH and I are simply not "tour folks", we've been all around the world on our own and are quite comfortable doing so, but the truth is, some people want an organized tour.. They don't want to spend months planning and looking, (often that's why they take a cruise!) they don't want to worry about getting back to the ship ontime, they're nervous about not speaking a foreign language, terrified of going into a restauarant and being intimidated by the menu and afraid of getting on a bus or into a taxi in an unknown city. That's the part of travel we love.....but hey, that's what makes horse races!

When possible, I try to encourage some people to take a step toward independant travel in really "easy" cities like Cadiz, Spain or Copenhagen. But then other places, where train travel to the city is involved, or a city is known for tourist rip-offs, I ease off, knowing that some people will be nervous and uncomfortable.

I'm not flaming you or referring to your posts, but I think that sometimes, the flaming can start when people have kind of an "attitude" about those who really need to take a tour. It can come off as a "hipper than thou" and people who want a tour end up being put down for their choices. Again, I'm not saying that YOU have ever done this, but I've seen it happen.

  4. We walked off the ship and negotiated a rate with one of the many taxi's waiting in a line. They had printed up forms with prices and places.

We hired a wonderful guide for the entire day and went up to Valdemosta ( a don't miss!) as well as other small towns. At the end of the day, he left us off in the downtown area so we had a couple of hours to walk around town.

  5. WHY OH WHY IS THE PARKINK SO MUCH IN NEW YORK????? Maybe I'll just jog to NY from Ohio and Walk back. It woul be better then paying 200.00 just to park my car.

Because our real estate is worth more than just about any other place, so the garage pays more rent to be there than a garage in Ohio. :)

  6. Lady Caveat,

I'm sorry about your condition and I'm sure you'll be fine soon. But I have to thank you for posting. Your post has opened up the floodgates of information about this topic, so Thanks!

I was not aware of the parsley or cantelope tips, though I always try to drink bottled water on ships rather than their iced tea. Those of you with soda cards, be careful too, because cola's often have high sodium contents. Club soda has tons of salt so be careful with that too. Probably the least salt would be in something like a 7-Up.

I'm not an advocate of taking a diuretic, however, if you have bad swelling and do take one, make sure you take a few extra vitamins, as the diuretics will deplete your body of much needed minerals.

Yes, caffeine does make one retain water too. Though tea is a natural diuretic. So perhaps making yourself some iced tea using bottled water and decaffeinated tea could be a big problem solver?

Thanks for all the tips everyone.

  7. Nyytflyyr,

You might want to check into the price of a private car or limo service to pick you up at the pier and drive you to Penn. Sometimes, that option is not that much more expensive than renting a car in NYC and returning it in another state. Also factor in the price of cab fare from the pier to the car pick up.

  8. If you like upscale boutique hotels I highly recommend the Don Vicente Historic Inn, in Ybor City (downtown Tampa). They have 16 rooms in a big and beautifully restored historic building.

Ybor City has tons of great restaurants and the hotel is gorgeous - nothing like the cookie-cutter chains. They also have an inhouse restaurant and bar.

Probably too small a hotel for a shuttle, but they'll arrange a taxi for you.

Fodor's gives it a star in their guide and a review gives it a 5 out of 5 rating.

  9. I think a "wedding gown" would look kind of silly, to be honest.

That said, I don't think there's anything wrong with wearing a lovely, long off-white, creme or champagne colored gown. If you keep it simple (think Vera Wang style), then you'll simply look elegant.

If you have long hair, wear it up and put some pretty white roses in it for a more bridal look.

  10. DH and I would never dress alike. We're waaay too individual for that.

For formal photo's I do look at our clothes to make sure that they will look nice together in a photo.

However, when I do see couples on a cruise that dress alike, I smile. It's not that I like the look but I do enjoy seeing how people express their affection for one another and dressing alike is just one way of doing it. It's not my way, but it's certainly acceptable.

I'm no psychologist, but it strikes me that it might be a subconscious need that some have to "mark one's territory" for others to see.
