Agree with Host Bonjour. Stratford can be disappointing, has changed so much over the years. Also agree about Moreton in Marsh.
I would also recommend Chedworth Roman Villa if you can fit it in on a Cotswolds visit. Beautiful mosaic floors, Roman baths etc. Set in awesome countryside.

Blood pudding is black pudding in the UK:)
For cheap and cheerful you can't beat pub grub. Steak and kidney pies etc. 3 good ones. Cheapest is the Weatherspoons chain which also does American type food too. One here on Whitehall a stones throw from no.10. Horse Guards Parade and Trafalgar Square.

Opposite the Prime ministers residence is the Red Lion. A bit more upmarket and often used by high flying Politicians....and myself:D
Evenings I like Covent Garden area for restaurants. Some good ones around by the Royal Opera House.

I always thought it was the "Loo"..
Yes a lot use that too:)

I don't know anybody young or old who uses the word 'bathroom' when they mean the toilet.
Well you do now and there are quite a few of us. BTW the correct upper class name is Lavatory. Toilet is a bit common. Gents would have been used by my Father who if alive would be 92! However, any will do, no one will laugh at you if you use the wrong one. :D

I need to brush up on my British before I come over in May.. I just know I'm going to get dirty looks if I ask where the bathroom or the elevators are.. :D
Many British use the word bathroom now, it has drifted over the pond:) especially the younger generation. Bar staff is a bit more politically correct as there are as many women working behind bars as men.
My first mistake in Anerica was to ask where the Post box was in Arizona!

Not really any perks except priority boarding. However, you get what you pay for and Carnival suites are quite nice and at a cheap price.
-
Absolutely. I have seen it on all lines too, from Cunard to Carnival.
-
We avoid buffets too. Have seen too many kids poking the food around, even putting food back from their plates with their fingers. Worse thing I saw was a woman changing a nappy at a table in the buffet. I think it would be a good idea to ban children unaccompanied in the buffet line and the ice cream stations etc.

Does anyone know if you can board at noon.;)

Saw this re. Value of jewellery and not being a good investment.

In addition to all the reasons, value for money. Compare the cost to a large hotel with comfy beds, excellent room stewards, activities and all the food you want. Our 3 days in a Puerto Rico Hotel cost almost as much as our cruise when meals were factored in and the service wasn't as good as on a cruise.

I may be turning into a grumpy old woman but I think people have become more selfish and impolite. Always been some chair hoggers, same in the theatres too. However, the numbers are growing, it's catching;)
-
I was shocked to see some of the passengers on our last cruise buying drugs fairly openly from locals on the beach in St Lucia and Barbados.
-
We dropped off our bags with the Porter and had a wander round PR until the crowds reduced.
-
Wow, lots of photos, they are great, thanks. We were there Nov/Dec.:)

Great posts, brings back memories. I went on the old QE2 as a teenager, had my arm twisted to keep my Aunt company. Loved it! Everyone made such a fuss of me. Lots of young handsome officers to dance and flirt with. Happy days:)
-
We liked it. Had a very nice quiet room. Only stayed one night pre cruise.

I think the Tortuga rum cake that is sold on every Island is dry, mass produced rubbish. Try to buy authentic cake from local bakeries, banana bread too. Delish:)
-
Sounds like a bundle of laughs. Rigid drinking hours:eek:

In addition to many which others have said I would add feeling safe and secure. Strolling around the decks at midnight you don't have to worry about taking a wrong turning into a dark alley or similar;) take ill or have an accident and there is instant help. Quite pampered really.
I do enjoy land holidays too. We have taken more than cruises the last few years. Both have pro's and con's:)
-
A good time for sightseeing but can get cold when the sun goes down, will also be cool at sea.
-
Why do people seem to take it personally when their favourite cruise line is criticised:confused:
-
I think sometimes the cruise lines set themselves up for critical guests to find fault.
Their glossy brochures and TV ads give an impression of perfection on board. The ships are gorgeous, the food photos look like Michelin 4*, the models are beautiful, the sky is blue, the white gloves on the stewards create an 'image'. Some folks board expecting that to be reality.
If their toilet doesn't flush or they don't have hot water one night for their shower, they start to crash and burn and the small little slip ups become major catastrophies.
Absolutely agree. Was thinking the same when I arrived at your post.

Had a light lunch overlooking the sea in Sussex yesterday. Prawn sandwiches £10 for 2 people. Wine, although we didn't have any was £11 per bottle.
Talking of tea rooms, there are some excellent ones in Arundel close to my home. The Castle is worth a visit.
