  1. Sorry! Should have added that. We were just a table of 2 so nobody was waiting for us. When we would arrive the table of 4 next to us was eating their apps.....we were gone before they finished their dessert. Maybe that’s why it wasn’t a problem for us to show up at 6:20. Small tables move quickly ....we would never have done that if it was a large table, but good question!

I am glad to hear that. I would have been surprised if they told you it would be ok to hold up a table.

As I said, as long as it was just you and no one else affected, that worked out great.

  2. On our last cruise we had a situation where select was full so we had to take late dining because early dining was also full. When we got on board we went right to the MDR and they told us that we were on the waitlist for select dining but it probably wasn’t going to clear, but they would be able to move us from late seating to the early seating. 6 o’clock was a little early for us, but they told us we could be there as late as 6:20 so we did that. It was better for us than late seating would’ve been.

Just curious. Was that change for a full table to early seating? Or did they sit you with others already on early seating?

Only asking because if it is the latter and the other are getting to the table a 6 and you are not getting there until 6:20 the servers quite often waiting on you before starting the meal which would not bbe fair to the others. If on the other hand your group is filling a table than i see no problem especialy if you are making the servers aware of your intention.

  3. You can use your OBC in the Casino, but you cannot cash it out. They will give you play only chips, or slot credits. With the chips you play the chips they gave you. If you win, they pay you in standard chips. Keep the standard chips, continue to play with the play only chips. If you lose, but additional play only chips.

This is a great way to go if you plan on playing in the casino anyway.

We did this the last 2 years on Summit with no problems.

  4. Sailing on the Eclipse soon. Does anyone know the number of people the largest table in the main dining room will seat? We are a group of 14 celebrating 2 big birthdays, and would like to all dine together on 1 night in the main dining room.

We had 17 on Summit last year. They gave us 3 tables next 2 each other. 7 at one table, 6 at another and 4 at another. We still celebrated birthdays and anniversaries. Each table was a different generation of family. For my birthday we managed to have an area of the lounge that accomodated our entire party.

We did have 2 different wait staff crews bug they worked together and made it great.

  5. I cant speak to the Celebrity suites but have done 3 different suites on Breakaway. OP asked about the penthouse which we did last year so i can speak to that. It is a nice room, but it really is just a slightly larger room than a standard balcony. The balcony is very small, nice king size bed and a pullout sofa. The real benefit to this suite is that is within the Haven area which is nice being close the the small Haven pool and its hot tubs.

If you want a large balcony(size will vary by deck we had the largest on deck 9), then you can look at the aft penthouse which is fantastic. It has a seperate bedroom with very large bathroom with soaking tub dual sinks and depending on the configuration eith the bathroom looks out over the balcony or the bedroom does. It also has a second bathroom(standard cruiseship bathroom) a king size pullout sofa in the living room. With a dining table. One drawback is it is not within the Haven area itself so I feel we did not take advantage of the Haven Amenities on that trip.

We also had the 2 bedroom Haven suite which is set up very similar to the aft penthouse, but does not have the large balcony. The second bedroom is set up with a pulldown bed and pullout sofabed. This suite is in the Haven.

We found the service to be exceptional within the Haven, but I think the most telling thing I can say between the NCL and Celebrity is overall as nice as the Haven experiences have been, I would choose Celebrity OV or Balcony over the Haven because I do prefer the layout of the Celebrity Summit over the Breakaway as well as the overall service on the Celebrity is better than NCL once you step out of the Haven.

3 times on Breakaway, 2 times on Summit with a 3rd coming in 2 weeks.

Hopefully someone who sailed in both can give a more direct comparison.

  6. Guest services has no fee. Casino does (5%).

We turned our non refundable OBC into casino chips with no fee. They did however give us non cashable chips. But we do play the tables. Over the course of the cruise even if we do well we will still lose the OBC amount. Just have to remember if you are increasing your bet to use the non cashable and when you win pull out the regular chips.

  7. It is still available on our August sailing. however go better is for 2 perks and go best is four perks. I was under the impression it is always an option except on TA cruises. I believe they occasionally offer the the go better on balcony and above as included. Not sure about suites if they always include all 4 perks.

  8. We have been on Summit twice and i had no trouble with basic email, text messaging and for the most part video messaging with Facebook messenger. We could not stream video consistently with Plex, slingbox or netflix. At times they would be ok, but for the most part not very good.

But that has been our experience on our most recent NCL Breakaway as well. We had wifi on 2 out of 3 sailings. On one of those we had great service. I was able to log into mlb.tv or the slingbox and watch Mets games. Then by last November they had completely locked out all video streaming. They stated a new plan was being brought out to allow it. Have not been on to see if that has occured.

As for the Summit, hopefully the improved wifi will be part of the upcoming dry dock plans.

  9. We have been on the Summit twice in the last 2 years, and will be again in August. We have also been on the NCL Breakaway 3 times. While i agree the production shows on Breakaway are better, they also did not change over that time(some are changing now). I do however prefer the variety of the shows on Summit. We have seen some very good comedians(a far cry better than the second city improv that used to be on Breakaway), a great Billy Joel tribute, and the normal shows which have been good if not great.

  10. I can't see Qsine for our August 26th sailing either. But my understanding is the change to Le Petit is happening during refit in January/February 2019. Not sure why we can't see it at this point.

  11. We have done 2 Summit sailings and will again in August. Great ship, reviews are saying it is ready for its dry dock in January or February. We love all the quiet spots. The previously mentioned solarium pool is great an we like the 2 main pools. Always look forward to water volleyball against the officers.

We have also sailed NCL several times and feel the MDR on Summit is better. Have not done specialties.

Go in knowing it is a ship that needs a bit of a facelift and you will have a great time.

    Enjoy

  12. My DH and I will be traveling with friends on a Summit cruise to Bermuda this July.

We would like to communicate with each other about our daily plans during the cruise.

Is there a way we can text each other without incurring roaming fees on our phones ?

Does Celebrity offer an app for intranet messaging on the ship ?

I called our wireless service company and the representative explained that texting was not done through WiFi connections, but through cell service. With that information, I don’t think that an internet package purchased onboard would be helpful for texting.

Any info is definitely appreciated !

We have utilized the wifi package and used a messaging app in place of cellular texting. We had a group of 15+ on Summit last year and we used facebook messenger and created a group chat. Individually or as a group you can also do voice calls or depending on wifi signal stength video calling.

Another option depending on your cell provider which i will try out in August is wifi calling. We have Verizon and they have a wifi calling option. With the phone in airplane mode with wifi turned on and accessed i can make calls to any phone and it is billed same as normal calling. Not sure if all providers offer this option or not.

    Have a great trip.

  13. We have had the last 2 times and will again in August anytime dining. Early seating was not available. We just go online and make 6pm reservation for each night. This way we get the best of both worlds. If we realy like the table and the servers we can request them nightly. And if we have a change in plans we can cancel or change the reservation.

I Agree with the prior post that it would not be right to have assigned seating and then go to the MDR for different times. That is not fair to those with anytime as there only option. It is not like they can go and sit at your assigned table.

  14. We have the same issue with our August Summit trip. I plan on taking the screen shot of the t&c with me. Travel agent and Celebrity both say it is not available in conjunction with 50% off 3rd guest.

When I spoke to a rep in website issues they say it shows in my reservation that our son has the items, but it does not show on my confirmation.

  15. Too damn much. Particularly if you have an alcohol package.

We always ask that they empty it for us. This allows us to grab a soda can or water bottles on the way back to the room and put it in the fridge.

  16. I don't have neuropathy, but on the Summit to Bermuda the deck is incredibly hot. I had to stand on a towel if i did not have on sandles. But i agree that with that type of disorder he should have kept his sandles on until he got to the pool. That is why there is always a pile of them by the pool entrance.

As for the McDonalds case. They lost due to prior warnings about the temperature of the coffee. She would have gotten a much larger payout if she had been burned without the stupidity of putting the cup between her legs. Of course without that stupidity she probably never burns herself in the first place.
