Yes, it has been a bit frustrating for us as well, as their tour buses kept following ours around and crowding up the venues!!! Kind of ironic that we didn’t run into a single other ship our entire trek down the west coast of Chile and then we hit the very small town of Ushuaia and here is this giant ship next to us. I hope they are not going to follow us to Antarctica but fear they will.

The Viking Sun is currently on a 244 day world cruise, so highly doubt it will be an issue for you.

Im getting very excited to see this leg of your journey, so expect a few questions form me (if you don’t mind)

Sorry if it came across as complaining.

No I didn’t take as complaining. I would also find the noise annoying, especially if trying to sleep.

The tv show Getaway, is a travel show in Oz and Catriona Rowntree is currently on board doing this. Catriona is always presenting Scenic tours on the show, she is also the annoying voice that we have to listen too when on hold, when phoning Scenic in Australia. I’ve noticed on Scenic’s Instagram they show a lot of photos from your trip. Take a look because there is an awesome one, taken by drone of the ship in front of the glacier.

The front six cabins on Deck 5 are right above the theater, and the crew bar is directly below that.  Whenever a show is going on in the theater, you can hear it like you are right there.  I mean, it is LOUD in the cabin.

Have you asked if they can move you to another cabin? As you’ve stated, it isn’t a full house, so maybe that would solve the problem.

I’m just concerned about what is going to happen when we head down to Antarctica for 11 days. The ship is going to be full and I just don’t know how they’re going to deal with holding tanks that aren’t large enough to handle the load (I would be surprised if they’re allowed to dump in Antarctica).  I wonder if they’re going to ration water (that happened to us once when we had to divert in the Atlantic due to weather, and ended up with 7 straight sea days).  I guess we will find out soon enough.

WOW that’s amazing. How on earth are they going to handle that? How often do they empty, or how many days capacity are the tanks?

Keep up the great work, I’m thoroughly enjoying every bit of information on the Eclipse. Also thanks for the tip regarding casual clothing. I’ll leave the long frocks at home 😂

  6. I love reading your thoughts on the Eclipse, whether good or bad, they’re are interesting. I totally agree about the pool in the Yacht Club, there’s no way I’d be game enough to get in whilst people are dining. What a waste of space!

Strange how they won’t allow you the wine in other areas, that doesn’t sound like the way a luxury cruise line, especially on a smaller ship, should behave for a passengers request.

By by the way I finally got a chance to look at  Scenic’s email for Antarctic gear rental and it only offers waterproof pants.........what a joke. All other items are to purchase.

  7. TahoeTraveler, would you be so kind to let me know your clothing packing list for the Antarctic and what you ended up using and not using (obviously report at the end of your trip for that).  I’m trying to get my head around all of this and always overpack. We just received an email from Scenic with a clothing rental company and they deliver the clothes onboard, did you get this option?

    Czardas,

Also, interestingly enough, if you were taking the cruise that I think you are taking it starts toward the middle or latter part of July and ends around August 12.  We board the ship Again on July 3 and disembark around July 13 or 14.  We return to the ship on August 13 for the northwest passage cruise.  You may be one between our July sailing and our August sailing!

RockyandMoose we are booked on the Iceland and Greenland Explorer 4th August to 15th August. Are you sure you board on the 13th?

  9. RockyandMoose thank you so much for allowing us to come along on your journey. I loved your whole attitude to the cruise and not sweating the small stuff. You have made me excited for our Antarctic cruise in February and then Iceland & Greenland in August. I feel a huge relief after waiting years for these cruises and all that went on with the delays and cancellations. Thanks again

There are many other issues like this on the Eclipse that I strongly believe Scenic needs to be made aware of.

Goorawin did you end up managing to finish the lengthy survey at the end of the cruise?  Also did Scenic end up giving you any type of compensation for the delayed start of your cruise etc ?

We're on the Feb 3 sailing to Antarctic, so definitely hanging on your every post. Like you, we don't sweat the small stuff. Thanks for these updates!

Hi TotontoCruiser6, we are also on the same cruise. Can’t wait and I am currently hanging off anything I can read. Look forward to hopefully catching up when we finally board.

  12. I received the standard 25% off the rebooked Antarctic cruise but then we experienced a cancellation to our Arctic cruise as well, so then they offered us 50% off the second rebooking, which kept us from really being p’d off.

Keep in in mind the prices had gone up considerably since we first booked, many years ago.

  13. I was wondering if we should all create a post with our Scenic Eclipse roll calls. If we do it here it will get lost amongst the posts, so should we start a new thread, asking where and when others are going? Then we can just keep bumping it to the top. What are your thoughts?

  14. Hi Goorawin,

    just a couple of questions please;

you mentioned that that there weren’t any printed menus, but they’re shown on your tv screen, so what happens when you go to the restaurant? Are you meant to of memorized it?

is your room key a card that is linked to your ID card, do you wear this on a lanyard?

what are the tours like at each port, are there many to choose from?

You mentioned that the drinks weren’t up to what you were expecting, why? Are you only offered a select wine each night etc?

I’m really hoping things have settled down for you and you are now experiencing a more relaxed ship.

  15. Goorawin, Im another that has been enjoying your reports. We’ve all anxiously awaited for this maiden cruise and you are the only one that is allowing us to get some inside knowledge of the actual ship. Scenic keep posting glossy gorgeous photos, which now seem they must to be 3D renders, after seeing your photos.

Please continue to post here, as I look forward to hearing what you have to say each day, be it positive or negative, you’ve given a great report.

  16. Unbelievable.......or is it? I’ve said all along that Scenic not showing interiors and shouting it from the roof tops, raised alarm bells.

Goorawin I’m so sorry to hear what you are going through. You are our life line to the truth at the moment and I am eagerly awaiting Scenic’s propaganda on their FB page.
