Generally it is 9:00 am.  You need to get out of your suite at 8:00 a.m. However, if you are disembarking in Miami (the worst port to disembark in my opinion), you may not get off of the ship until after 9:00 a.m.  They really need the time to clean the ship since new passengers embark at noon.

Thanks. We disembark at Seward. We don’t catch the train until 6pm, so was hoping to stretch the morning out.  We have a helicopter flight at 12, so we can easily fill our time off the ship in after leaving the ship.

What may sound like snobby behavior really isn't.

Everyone should be able to enjoy themselves without affecting others.  Lanyards does not fall under that category.  Geez, all I was sharing is that most passengers on Regent do not wear them.

It’s all good and said in jest Travelcat2. Perhaps an Aussies sense of humour isn’t translated easily here. We certainly don’t get our knickers in a knot over small stuff.

Having a good laugh and a fun life is very much on my agenda. I certainly won’t be loud and obnoxious around other diners/passengers but you will see me having a wonderful cruise and enjoying every minute.

Now back to Top Tip questions - can you bring your own travel coffee cup and get Coffee Connections to fill it? I’d love to have a warm cuppa up on deck whilst watching Alaska pass by.

P.P.S.  - we have seen (thankfully only once) where people were wearing things (hats, necklaces, etc.) that glowed - on and off in Compass Rose for dinner.  Not sure what message they were trying to send but they were the joke of the cruise (and not in a good way).

Oh lighten up a little, perhaps these people were doing something outrageous, like celebrating and having fun, on a trip of a lifetime . Good for them and hopefully they didn’t hear from stuffed shirts that they were the “joke of the cruise”.   I hope they’re on my trip and I will join them with my lanyard. Oh what fun we will have!

Well, I for one would NEVER speak to a lanyard wearer.  Oh, the fashion faux-pas!!  Unless someone is clad head to toe in designer duds and wearing at least five figures worth of jewelry (six figures is better) they're not worth my precious time.

The only reason I wear cargo shorts, t-shirts, a baseball cap and an Apple Watch is to catch the lanyard wearers unaware, whereupon they attempt to engage me in conversation and I reply with derisive laughter and finger-pointing, thereby cementing their status as a mouth-breather who is reaching well above their station in life.

Of course, if you believe any of this you've obviously never met me nor read any of my posts.  I honestly couldn't give a rat's patootie if someone wears a lanyard, or socks with sandals, or stripes with plaid...just be cool to me and I'll be cool to you.  🙂

Well I’m heading out to buy the loudest lanyard I can find and then pimp it up a bit. Dimnontes and feathers should do it.

Thanks for a good chuckle Bill.

Have to somewhat disagree with a previous poster.  Yes - you can use a lanyard but will identify yourself as mainstream cruiser since luxury cruisers do not use lanyards.

After reading a rather contentious thread from a year or so ago, where someone wanted to purchase a gift for a friend that would be sailing Regent for the first time wanted to give them a lanyard.  I told them that we rarely see lanyards on any passengers.  Since then I have made a point to notice who was actually wearing these things.  I would guess that 3-5 passengers (out of 700) were wearing lanyards.   So, the choice is yours.

Oh my goodness this made me laugh..........heaven forbid that I dare look like a mainstream cruiser, even though I can afford to be on a luxury line...........

who cares what I look like or anyone else if they prefer to use a lanyard. Will nobody speak to me because of it? Sheesh!

Cruise Critic is unlikely to create a separate Roll Call forum for a 1-ship ocean cruise line.  Scenic Eclipse roll calls go in the "All Other Cruise Lines Roll Calls" forum:

Im not just meaning Roll Calls but any general discussion for Scenic Eclipse, ports, cruises, trip reports etc.

EDITED - Sorry I just realised this thread was under the “All other cruise lines”, which I only found by searching Scenic Eclipse.  I thought this was under the Scenic River cruises section. All’s good 😀

We did not get an email.  I see you are in Australia so maybe they only sent it to Australia customers. Thanks for sharing. Which cruise do you have booked for next year?  We are booked for the Arctic in July, 2020.

I have the Antarctic cruise Feb 3rd and Iceland Greenland early August booked.  Prices have risen considerably from our first cancelled bookings, so the compensation wasn't much use.

I want to stay positive about the ship but what is worrying me, is that we are yet to see any internal fit out videos or images.  Each time they show something, it is purely the exterior and it seems to be the same thing over and over again ( I think I've seen it being painted for the past 6 months)  You think Scenic would be shouting from the roof tops, how good it looks with the internal fit out.

I'm hanging out for it's August inaugural cruise, then I can relax and make our final payment without worrying.

Also when is Cruise Critic adding Scenic Eclipse to the boards?  It would be great if we can start roll calls and discussions. How do we go about getting this to happen?

  8. Hi,

So far we have had 2 cruises cancelled Antarctic & Arctic. We have rebooked for next year and are waiting anxiously on any positive news regarding the launch. I got tired of the other thread also.

Today I received  email from Scenic.

What are are your thoughts on this. Can we finally see a light at the end of the tunnel, or will the ship not be released from the bankruptcy?

Scenic Eclipse Continues its Build to Completion and June Sea Trials

    Dear **********

We are writing to provide an update on Scenic Eclipse after some recent developments within the shipyard in Croatia.

We have unfortunately been advised that a commercial court in Croatia, has placed the Uljanik Shipyard into bankruptcy this week. To ensure work on Scenic Eclipse continues however, Scenic has been able to negotiate an agreement with the court-appointed bankruptcy trustee. This will ensure works continue as planned to allow Scenic Eclipse to head to Reykjavik, Iceland for its inaugural cruise on August 15, 2019.

This development comes after a breakdown in negotiations between the recently chosen strategic partner, Brodosplit Shipyard and the Croatian Government. The strategic partner is a consortium comprised of the Croatian DIV group and Italian Shipyard Fincantieri.

Scenic Eclipse continues to remain on schedule for its first sea trial in early June after its completion of the dry dock work last week,” states Scenic company spokesperson. “We are saddened by the loss of jobs at the shipyard as we have developed a wonderful relationship with many of the hard-working men and women there and hope that a court-determined resolution is found in the near future.”

We thank you for your ongoing support of Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours and look forward to welcoming you on board Scenic Eclipse.

  9. G’day, In a few weeks I will be finally taking my first Regent cruise to Alaska. As this board has a wealth of loyal Regent cruisers, often the basic information isn’t relayed in threads, because you’ve all done it before etc. So, what are your top tips for first time “Newbies”?

Information, such as best times to board, disembarkation at Ports and the process, Restaurants,  Do we carry our room keys on lanyards, Cabins, Room Service, Pre & Post dinner entertainment, what to expect etc. etc.

Or what did you wish you’d know before sailing with Regent?

This can be a fun thread and help first timers a lot, so please join in.

  10. Just to clarifying things, I need to decide if I purchase data cards before I leave or just rely on the ships WiFi, when I need it. That’s it!

I will not be devoting my holiday to sitting in front of a screen.

I have decided to buy the data cards and have the WiFi as a nice back up if it’s available .

If my data cards don’t get a signal from the phone carrier, then so be it, I can live with that too. That’s it in a nutshell, just doing my planning and not interested in starting a “he said, she said” exchange here.

Thank you to the information given from others, that helped me understand what to expect. I can now look forward to our departure, more informed.

Sorry if you feel that way, that wasn't criticism--I was only stating that it's not important to me and it's the last thing "I" would think about when taking a cruise.  I didn't assume anything about her.  Please read by post before you write. If someone is worried about sick family members, or older persons I wouldn't be using the inter-net, I'd be using the phone on the ship.

Wow there you go again. Ok let’s just forget I asked........

  12. Crikey I’m simply asking a question to prepare for my travels. Coming from Australia, I won’t just be able to pick up my phone/iPad and use it unless I know what to expect.

Please don’t assume you know what my needs are and why I asked about this, everyone has different requirements. Some people need to run a business, others might have ill family members and others are retired and can totally relax and forget about the outside world.

I can assure you I will be definitely be enjoying my surroundings and where I am, thanks.

  13. Hi, I’m doing my first Regent cruise to Alaska in June and also wanting to book another for Tokyo for 2020.

Should I wait until on board the first cruise to book the next cruise for a better discount? Not sure how the previous passenger discount works etc.

Also the Tokyo cruise is showing all cabins as waitlisted, what’s with that when the cruise is so far out?

i don’t want to risk missing out on my cabin choice, if I need to wait 3 months. What should I do?

Thanks, Czardas.  I think we’re going with Regent’s version, not only for the possible later departure time, but also because I haven’t been able to reach a live person from the alternative company.  In Anchorage, one of our favorite things was just walking around the streets and stopping into neighborhood dive bars and talking to the locals.  Best. Time. Ever!

This is exactly what we have in mind. Our train arrives in late, so we will have 1 full day to just wander and take it all in, before our day of 20+ hours of flying home.
