  1. I know what you are all thinking!!! I'm NOT going to be fishing from the boat. LOL

But I am an avid fisherman. I was just wondering if I can bring my rod so I can fish at the ports? ie Cabo, Mazatlan & PV.

    SHORE FISHING IS MY FAVORITE.

    Thanks!!

Bringing just about anything aboard is easy, fishing rods included.

I have a travel rod that breaks down (4 piece). If you have a airport proof rod case you can bring that you. I have fished all over the Caribbean and Mexico while cruising.

    Catch'em up:)

  2. The problem NCL is creating for itself is that it's clearly choosing not to communicate their new policies. Communication goes a long way and it feels like they're hiding. Like it or not,the bottom line is that it's a corporation that is in business to make money and if these fees " work" at all for them, the other lines will almost surely follow. Capitalism at work. I was a TA back in the late 90s,and it only took one carrier to decide to take the plunge and cut commissions entirely...they pretty much all gleefully followed. I left the industry because people didn't want to pay fees for me to do the legwork. The office became a bit stressful as the work dried up a bit and it wasn't fun anymore.

I was on Carnival's CC page and their frequent cruisers are very up in arms about the way their policies are changing over there as well.

As they all roll out the newest, latest and greatest mega ships, they've got to figure out a way to pay for them and operate them while being able to turn a profit..the whole point of them being in business. Unless a majority of frequent cruisers put their feet down and switch to land based vacations, this is just another round of purse string tightening. Cruising has evolved a great deal over the years and will continue to do so,not always to the benefit of those that take the cruises.

Just like baggage fees on air flights. No one was going to pay them.

I was one of those people. Well I pay and hate it.

Cruising has changed dramatically in the last 3 years.

Time to look for the next underrated undiscovered thrill.

    It was a nice ride.

  3. Thanks Gary...we are "of a certain age" and have dumb phones that only make phone calls!

I will try to figure out how to get music onto my Kindle.

    Thanks for info. Merry Christmas

You could buy a portable DVD player and they will play cd's too.

Since DVD's are going the way of the cell phones that only make calls the players are real cheap now;)

Signed, person without smart phone, but have over 400 cd's!!

  4. I have not sailed to tortola but spent many weeks vacationing there....aristocat is well known and will certainly plan to get you back on time!...am sure there will be a couple of options depending on when you dock....it is a beautiful island once you get away from the city center....enjoy your day there....

We spent a week in Tortola as well, and sailed there twice.

Aristocat talks a good game at first contact but he blew us off when it came time to book a day.

He caters to the cruisers and charges accordingly.

We contacted him at least ten months in advance and it was all ''yeah no problem'' until it was time to book.

    Hope you have better luck.:)

  5. You can simply ask your stateroom attendant or call from the room. Nothing that needs to be done ahead of time.

I believe you need to order a bar setup B-4 you board. At least that was the rule in the past. Call NCL customer service to order. You will be charged at the time you order so have your CC ready and cabin or rev. #

  6. Lrg pizza thankyou for reply..Yes I am wondering if we had enough time thats why I said we dock from 8am to 5pm..or do you think there are better options for Cozumel? Its soo hard to decide what to do where..we are doing 37 nights Miami to Alaska..cheers Liz

If your a shopper or a party-er you can just hang in Coz. by the dock. If you are a beach person take one of the thousands of cabs to one of the beaches and drink, eat, swim or chill out.

Playa Del Carmen is a more laid back with a pedestrian only avenue (5th Avenue). Shops, restaurants and cool places to see. It is easy to do the ferry. Just allow a little more time coming back in case the ferry is late...which does happen sometimes.

This link will show you 5th ave.

37 days.....can't imagine that.... have fun:)

  7. well, this has been a fun thread. It reminds me of the time i heard tourists complaining about the heat....in miami....in july.

    Also, unless the boat...

    • was attacked by pirates
    • caught on fire and burned to the waterline
    • lost power for several days while you drifted aimlessly
    • had a major norovirus outbreak
    • sank into the north atlantic
    • exploded
    • ran aground and was marred hundreds of miles from home
    • owned by carnival
    • broadsided by a rogue wave
    • involuntarily brought into a global naval conflict
    • infested with cannibal rats
    • slowly dissassembled by gremlins
    • lost at sea
    • ran out of food
    • crewed by the souls of the honorless and the cowardly
    • a misguided trip to alang, india

...it's not really a "cruise from hell". It's more like "uncomfortably active cruise"....but not cruise from hell. Cruise from hell is reserved for cruises where any of the above happened.

    Nice:D;)

  8. You might have gotten a more sympathetic response if you didn't include the nonsense about the captain having an 8 am flight home. Please explain how the captain could make an 8 am flight even if everything from weather to arrival time NY was just perfect. Your ship's scheduled arrival time in NY is 10 am. Even if it's 2 hours early just how does anyone catch an 8 am flight?

    X2

Bad weather and traveling conditions affect all modes of transportation, mostly in a negative way. When on board it's easy to forget that you are on a boat in the ocean.

    Titanic ring a bell?

I was once on a flight from Buffalo to NYC a 50 minute flight...2 1/2 hours later we landed after weathering massive thunder storms.

The plane descended 3,000 feet in 10 seconds on it's own:eek: during the flight.

It was the flight from hell but had nothing to do with the carrier;)

I would bet the Captain of that flight wasn't worrying about his connection!!

  9. The few memories that I will always remember was our 9 day So. Caribbean cruise on the Dawn. This was the first cruise after repairs were made since the Dawn experienced a total power loss at sea. We where all worried that our cruise would be cancelled due to the repairs not being completed. The roll call was ginormous:D

Well they got them done, the ship was empty when we boarded so our rooms were ready right away. The crew had a couple of days off, so they were in a great mood. We went to the M+G and there were 150 people in attendance there from every walk of life. We still see and write some of them.

The weather was fantastic and since this cruise was in December seeing palm trees in Miami with Christmas lights on them was cool.

  10. Well, our flight was actually from chicago thanks to the NCL air promo of $99 round trip.

However, on their site, it says that NCL is not responsible for air delays, does that mean if a delay were to occur..our vacation would be toasted?

I would think if NCL booked the flight they are obligated at the very least to get you to the next port of call if the flight was delayed.

But I might call them to see what air delays they are talking about.

    Are you going soon??

As you are well aware this winter is a killer. Flying across the street could be an adventure on any given day.

If your going in better or more stable flying weather you should be fine.

    My .02

  11. Football is a cold weather sport. I suggest anyone who doesn't realize that should educate themselves about the famous "Ice Bowl" game between Dallas and Green Bay played years ago. Even more recently the Giants played the Packers in extremely frigid conditions on their way to the Super Bowl.

The Super Bowl is a huge production with dozens of other events surrounding it during the week leading up to the game. The game itself can easily be played in the snow and cold, it's mostly the show surrounding it that suffers in bad weather.

The difference with this game (super bowl) is...no tailgating, and you have to be in your seat like 2 hours before the game starts with little to do but freeze. Who would pay hundreds if not thousands of dollars to do that?

You never see a empty seat at the game on TV but you might this year.

  12. Yesterday in Howl at the Moon on the Getaway, the person next to me at the bar bought a few drinks including three bottles of Bud.

When entering these, the server obviously pressed a wrong button, as they were charged at $100 per bottle. Add on another couple of drinks, plus the service charge and VAT and the total bill was over $400.

Good job he noticed, or he would have had a hell of a shock when he got his final bill this morning. :)

At Yankee Stadium 11 oz beer, "souvenir" cup: $9-$11-$13

    5" hot dog is $5.00.

Pay for a round for your party of 8...well you do the math.:D

I'd rather be on a ship!
