1. You've made a mistake.

"Limited" menu is not always bad. It depends on what is included.

The number of Eiffel Towers is limited too.

LeCirque has a status of a "Special Event" at Pinnacle Grill.

I've been there (Pinnacle, LeCirque, Tamarind) many times. So I can skip or add some "events" in the future with no questions.

You seem to be a first timer.

So some things are a must for the first timers. It's not about how to save $15 on a $1000 cruise. It's about "A taste of HAL specialty cuisine".

This is how I see it.

Lobster salad + Chateaubriand (the best meat course I ever had on a cruise ship).

My way: if you are interested in specialty dining - go for it!

I never asked if Murano on Celebrity was worth money. I wanted to try (to test!) Celebrity, so their top option went in my list automatically.

Same for Disney. They charge crazy money, but I had no options: I cannot cruise on a new (to me) ship and leave questions behind me...

With all due respect maybe what is important to you is not important to someone else. Does it really matter if you asked the question or not? I went to the sommeliers dinner on the Westerdam in 2011. What a waste of money. Others do like it.

  2. I am of the opinion that a HAL PCC works for the company, has quotas to meet and is limited in what he/she can offer without getting authorization from a supervisor.

An independent travel agent (no, I am not one) is trying to make a commission and represents the client more than the cruise line.

My TA has never done a darn thing for me. That why I fired her and went with a PCC. Thx to cruise critic, I feel I know more than enough to handle my own bookings. I'm not fond of the idea of using a Florida online booker that may or may not be shady. Everyone has their own comfort level.

  3.
I would like to see a seasonal home port in Houston, Galveston, or New Orleans so I can drive to a port. This may be selfish but I hope others out there agree.
Agree:). That would be closer for me too. The only problem is that air is stupid expensive to fly to Houston from Calgary. It's cheaper to fly to Fort Lauderdale.
  4.
Just off the Zuiderhdam. I fouind the food on her wonderful 10+ except the night I ate at Pinaclle Hrill.

    I don't care about shows/entertainment.

I wish they would stop charging double fares thier solo passengers. We don't eat or need the same care as a two people need.

Get rid of the new cheap and worthless dailey programs. I have only been activly sailing the last 3 years In 2011 they had port news and a daily program.
2012 Port news was gone and daily program was the same
2013 they have a cheap paper and no news about ports. They have daily news of what happens on the ship. If you have not seen these horrible programs on cheap paper. We pay enough we should have a quality program. I was on the Zuiderdam 10 day cruise November 8

    Mary
They do give you a booklet about the ports at the beginning of the cruise.
  5. Ya'all are so sweet. I swear I am doing well! I take this stuff for 4 (or 9) more years, see my onco's on a regular basis and just keep moving forward.:) I am at my year milestone, and I am hoping that all of my tests come back normal. I feel great (albeit a little heavier)!

Love my friends on the boards! Can't wait to meet ya'all in person someday!:D`

Likewise, maybe on a Princess cruise. I'm glad you are doing well. Still love that doggie pic. Makes me smile every time.

OP, sorry about the thread drift. I've been in you shoes on a panama cruise in an 80 degree room on the Statendam. It was miserable. One of the many reasons I won't sail on that ship.

  6. Sincere best wishes for you TracieABD for your full recovery. I'm glad you are not putting off something you want to do. I hear the A/C by the Front Desk works well, usually -- you might consider "camping" there if your cabin has a problem ;) That might provide the staff with motivation, y'know? :D

I'll second that! Tracie, you are one of the nicest people on this board. I really hope the worst is behind you.

  7. I guess I missed something in all the conversation, however,, here is my summary -- the OP picked a cabin, allowed for an upgrade, and now is in 'limbo' waiting for the result. If I am correct on this OP needs to call the travel agent or HAL and find out what is going on. Whenever I've 'allowed for an upgrade' when it happened the new cabin showed up immediately. I've never done a guarantee so....

Yes, that very thing was suggested several times.

    3. Hire some polite spa staff. They were downright flippin' rude

    4. Bigger portions in the MDR and more self serve in the Lido. Sometimes I just want to try a little bit of something new not a full serving (I tried grits ...eugh. Terrible waste of a plate ;) )

Love these suggestions especially about the spa. They are extremely nasty!
