  1. We didn't sit on our butts all day. We went to just about every activity the CD planned. We walked around the deck. We even went to Bingo, (in desperation as we are not Bingo fans) tried to add some fun to it, but Jeremy said he had several requests from the Bingo regulars not to do the usual Bingo "silliness."Clickety-click 66, Quack quack, and so on. Jeremy just read the numbers out in a very monotone voice. It was all over in half an hour. Sadly, trivia was our highlight of the day!

You can walk the deck only for so long.

The evening entertainment was horrible. (Except for the Indonesian and Filipino Shows) There was a comedian/ventriloquist with a duck puppet that several people walked out on.

I remember a Princess cruise we were on, that every day had some terrific guest speakers. One talked about earthquakes, tsunamis and the changing earth. One talked about, and showed a film about cruise ship history. On the Princess Coral, we had a "Ryder Cup" in the miniature golf on the top deck of the ship.

I am just answering the OP. If you want sedate, HAL is the right cruise.

There is no doubt the entertainment is better on Princess. I mentioned to the OP that you sort of need to be self entertaining on HAL. If you need to be entertained 24/7 Hal is likely not for you. I make my own fun so I don't need that. I'm not sure why people want every cruise line to be the same. We should all pick whatever cruise line fits our needs.

  2. Sedate..yes, impeccable service…no. The service was pretty good though. My husband and I are about 10 years younger than you. We usually cruise with Princess. We've done one NCL and one Carnival. Our first cruise with HAL Eurodam this past October has made us think long and hard about ever cruising again. It was boring! It seemed that once breakfast was over, a lot of passengers headed for the Crowsnest, read two pages of a book and then fell asleep, heads back and mouths wide open. It seems if they weren't in the Crowsnest, they were in one of the countless Windows 8 classes! Many didn't get off at the ports of call, as it was their 20th time doing that cruise and they had all "seen that, done that."

We are not into beer belly contests, drinking ourselves silly or any of that stuff but the sea days were truly boring. Thank goodness for the ports of call.

I guess it all depends on how "sedate" a time you want.

I was on the same cruise as you. I think this was my best cruise to date. It's not because of anything that the cruise line did. I got off in every port except canaveral. I guess I would have been bored if I sat on my butt doing nothing all day. I could have stayed here and worked if I wanted to do that.

  3. You need to start a booking, and when you get to where you can select a room, you can get an idea of how many rooms are still available. But, you have to check category by category. There's really no way to see a master list of what's available.

As long as you don't finish the reservation, you won't be charged.

That will not take into consideration how many guarantees there are so it doesn't tell you much.

  4. ..;when that ship is moving, there is no way that the smoke can or does bother them........../QUOTE]

Gee, I wonder what it was that stunk so bad:confused: I guess it couldn't have been cigarette smoke after all, it sure smelled like it.

No kidding. My guess is that it's only smokers that can't smell it. I don't know where this "theory" come from. You can smell it.

  5. I am not a smoker, but i am so tired of these, non smokers trying to force thier convictions on others...you would think that every balcony could smell the oder of some one smoking on thier own balcony.....;when that ship is moving, there is no way that the smoke can or does bother them..........

There is nothing more boring than a reformed wh--e

Thanks for straightening that out for us:rolleyes:.

  6. and wear them on formal nights?

Mine hasn't seen the light of day since I got it. I should be getting the 300 day on my next cruise. It will suffer the same fate. I've never seen anyone wearing the medal to formal night. Doesn't mean that it doesn't happen.

  7. I think it's a security concern about sending the information via email, which can be intercepted. The fax is a direct connection to the recipient.

My stock broker actually has a similar policy... fax or snail mail, but no emails for sending documents back and forth.

Snail mail could be intercepted. I would think it's way less secure than an email.

  8. Hi, Lorene, I do 't know if I saw you or not. I forgot you were on the Eurodam at the same time! What were you wearing - I check and see if I can find you. And where were you standing? How is your knee doing?

I had too many late nights and too many bottles of wine on that cruise. I can't remember what I was wearing:D;). Truth be told, I was probably having a shower when we left. I think we left at 6PM. Cool pic, I didn't even know there was a webcam there. It was a beautiful day.

The knee is not bad for the most part. I think the durolane injection in my knee was more helpful than the surgery. We will see when the shot wears off:eek:.

  9. We'll be watching for you. I'll try to get some screen shots! Actually, Chief, if you read this, I have some screen shots of you in Port Canaveral - do you want me to send them to you?

How did you know it was him? Did you see me :D?

  10. I, like many of you, are so weary of the smoking posts and debate! It really comes down to this in my mind.....go elsewhere if you do not like the smoking policy of HAL. Which, by the way, I find very reasonable and rational. Go to the many, many other cruise lines which have far more prohibitive smoking policies. Enjoy your smoke free balcony and never have to obsess about whether or not your vacation will be ruined by a smoker in the next cabin, the next deck, the deck two floors up, the aft balcony, the lido deck, the dock, the private island 200 miles away........

Why do I care about this? Because I am a very considerate smoker who books only Neptune or Pinnacle suites on HAL. I truly appreciate their reasonable policies. I am soon to be four star mariner and had 3 future cruises booked in either Neptune or Pinnacle Suites. I have never sailed in anything less on HAL and have never paid for or had a complimentary upgrade.

I just booked the Pinnacle suite for a 12 day Australia/New Zealand cruise. Not a small price. I was so angry about the change in wine policy for those of us who love to bring our own wines onboard. While it is still a huge disappointment to me, and I cancelled a HAL cruise to sail the NCL Breakaway in October, I will sail my 2 booked cruises and enjoy a HAL cruise in the Pinnacle Suite. HOWEVER, if the smoking on verandah policy changes then I will take my significant cruise dollars over to NCL exclusively.

I hope that HAL monitors these boards. I do know that NCL does so. Hopefully this thread can be closed, but I had to weigh in as I am so tired of this debate!

Good to hear you are a considerate smoker. Many are not. If we all thought like this, there would likely still be smoking in the workplace, theaters etc. I'm sure you would not like it if people told you to go to an all inclusive where you could smoke all day and night. Please have some consideration for others and the fact they like HAL. After all, according to you, you are a considerate smoker.

  11. Agree with u Lorene. Actually " upsell" and not "upsale" is only well known to savvy cruisers. One time a HAL agent didn't know what I mean by upsell. It was embarrassing trying to explain it to supposedly a " pro".

    Kinda scary, isn't it:D?

  12. On our August cruise both my inlaws as well as Dh and myself marked our stateroom selection no upgrade/upsell and we both received two upsell offers. We took the second one. Perhaps this has changed in recent years.

Not to be picky but I think it would be marked do not upgrade. There is nothing to mark do not upsell.

  13. Yes, i will do due diligence, after extensive sampling and research will let you all know my humble opinion! Fruit crisps with a little ice cream sound mighty good.....

Ya gotta take one for the team no matter how painful:D;).

  14. To anyone interested: If all my luggage makes it okay, I will try to wear a yellow shirt and have the hot pink hand towel to wave. My DH wears a lot of white, beige and light colors (white to match his hair!). I am the one that loves colorful things! So I will try to be up top towards the stern waving my hot pink towel if the weather cooperates....hoping some of you wave back!:D

I'm going to try to remember to wave at you. I like bright colors too. We are getting snow for the forth weekend in a row. Its tiresome.
