  1. No, you shouldn't lose your wine waiters. They will still bring your wine to you (or any other drink you require) minutes after you've sat at the table.

At least, that's what happens with Costa.

I haven't seen any drunks aboard either.

Yeah, that so doesn't happen on Hal. The wine stewards are beyond slow. On Princess the waiters bring you food and alcohol and I've never waited like I do on Hal.

  2. I just don't get it. I am a 4 star Mariner having sailed with HAL 17 times. I have signed up to receive promotional e-mails and mailings more times than I can count. I get absolutely no info from HAL at all. No promotions, no flash sales, no notices of new programs. Not a notice of a new e-edition of The Mariner. NADA!! After our cruise last November the folks we sailed with, 3 star Mariners, got the welcome home offer. We got nothing. Apparently loyalty gets you nothing. I'm tired of being ignored and am ready to try a different cruise line.

And yes, I check my junk mail too.

I'm in the same boat as you. I get nada. I know people say it's because it goes to junk mail. It's not going there....we get nothing!

  3. <snip>For those that want more mail from HAL... enter your Mariner ID number when searching for cruises.

Yeah, it doesn't work that way. It seems that many peole have presented theories of why folks don't recieving mailings and I think it comes down to one thing. If you have a long histroy with HAL and have a current cruise or 2 booked you will not receive anything. I know there are a few exceptions to every rule. I enter my mariner number each and every time and I'm on the website a lot.

  4. Just had a thought. We cruise HA quite a lot (4 Star Mariners) and are seniors who tend to stay up until midnight or later. When I picture a HA ship with many folks having unlimited drink packages it has me thinking that the ship will be dead by 6pm instead of the usual 10 pm. Many HA passengers do not drink much....but if its free they will come! And it will not be pretty :)

    Hank

Maybe stick with Celebrity then. I just don't understand this at all:rolleyes:.

  5. Actually, my TA notified me yesterday that she had booked this for us, so 8 posted it on our roll call, but didn't think of the main section. Duh!

The beverage card part is hard to figure: $50/pp/day sounds great, but drinks are limited to $7 and only 15/ day? Anyone know where we can find a wine by glass menu or drink menu? It seems to me my favorite cocktail is $6.50 or so.

Coffee and water would be nice.

    Only 15 drinks a day:eek:. How much can a person drink:D.

  6. I haven't posted a lot lately. Been busy planning our move. I hope whatever your health problem is, it gets resolved quickly.

Still dealing with my stupid knee. I'm ready to cut it off at this point. I wasn't prepared for what a pain it was going to be. Some days I doubt it will be better but deep down I know it will. Thanks for the good wishes. I appreciate it.

I hope your move goes well.

  7. :D

My understanding is that the HSC inclusive price to Australian/NZ customers only relates to cruises that depart from Aust/NZ.

We cruised Volendam locally and had no HSC added, and X from Asia and had HSC added to the cruise fare when we paid the final balance. X required us to pay the HSC with the final balance as we were on Anytime Dining, funny really when all they were selling through Australian TA's was Anytime Dining! I guess that was making sure the tips were actually paid.

I am expecting the HSC will be added again when we cruise Volendam again next year in Asia.

Anyone that does anytime dining on Celebrity has to pay the tips (yes it is called tips before anyone has a cow :D) up front.

  8. I did leave some clothing behind. After my luggage was lost in February I had to make a run to Walmart because I basically had nothing:eek:. I left behind a few pieces that I knew I'd never wear at home. I'm a chunky gal so I doubt if the crew could make use of the clothing. I took it to the front desk to put into the closet for people that have their luggage lost. Even though it wasn't to my taste it was nicer than anything else they had.

  9. I did say that I stay on the ship!

As for not choosing cruises with these artificial ports, I try to do that. That's really the most effective way of not supporting what I don't believe in.

But it's not always possible to avoid these ports entirely when choosing a cruise. When you factor in practical constraints, sometimes there are very few cruises that are actually feasible. (For a hypothetical example, if the cruise must depart no earlier than Saturday 26 October, must return no later than Sunday 3 November, must sail from and return to a Florida port, must not be a Carnival cruise, must have the option of fixed dining: What is there? Not actually a huge amount of choice.)

I totally hear you. I have deadlines that I must work within. That said I would not go anywhere I felt strongly against. I have another situation. To say I hate the Statendam is the biggest understatement in the world. I will not step foot on that ship again. I love, love the Panama Canal. The Statendam is pretty committed to that route. I simply refuse to go unless it's another ship.
