  1. This will be a first time cruising in this area, Singapore to Hong Kong in February & March. I usually wear seabands for the first 24 hours until I get used to the ship movements. Can anybody advise if the seas in this area can be rough or is it smooth sailing?

  2. You can do either. We usually make a reservation for tge first night or 2 & from then on when we are leaving the dining room we tell the hostess what time we expect to be there the following evening.

Can you do this online beforehand?

  3. We have ben on various cruise lines but this will be our first on Celebrity - booked on Millie for 18th Feb for 2 weeks from Singapore, visiting Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Very excited about this trip but we have a few questions -

In a balcony cabin are there US or European plugs? Is there a coffee machine? Are bathrobes supplied?

Can anyone give us an idea of weather in these places at this time?

Do Celebrity have formal nights? Is it Tux or black tie for men or shirt and jacket? And do ladies wear cocktail dresses or more formal with long dresses?

Sorry for all the questions and TIA, I am sure we will have loads more questions.

  4. Radiance cruiser & Missinver, we are in Singapore for nights in February as well before our cruise on Celebrity Millenium - is that the same cruise you are both on?

We were in Singapore 10 years ago and did the HOHO bus and loved it, thinking about doing it again next year.

  5. We are going on this ship next February, Singapore to Hong Kong, our first with Celebrity. We will want the 24/7 internet package, do we just buy once onboard or do we need to buy beforehand, I know when we buy we need to pay. Have already booked 3 different trips to make sure we get them but had to pay upfront.

I remember years ago on Princess booking trips beforehand but they were added to your shipboard account.

  6. We just came home from this cruise 2 days ago, particularly chose this cruise for the itinerary and weren't disappointed. We had 2 nights at the Hilton Garden Inn in Mestre, 10 minute bus journey from Venice and would definitely stay there again. Be careful where you go for drinks, we were going to a café/restaurant near St Marks square and a basic glass of wine was 17 euros, we had similar very near Rialto bridge for 3 euros.

The sail out from Venice was the best sail away we have had, so spectacular, we stayed on our aft balcony to enjoy it, just fab scenery. If you are staying on balcony then port side is the side to be on.

We didn't book any ship tours, preferring to wander ourselves.

Kotor - we didn't have to tender here, were one of the first off the ship and wanted to climb up the hill for great views. We went half way, as far as the church, not easy climbing so wear sturdy shoes. We did see a couple wearing flip-flops, not a good idea. It costs 3 euros to climb up and really worth it if you can. Afterwards we had a couple of drinks in one of the squares, very picturesque, beers 2 euros, glass of wine 3 euros. There are lovely gift shops and you can walk to the town in 2 minutes from the ship. The sail in to Kotor was really beautiful.

Corfu - there is quite a long pier here but the port supplies shuttle buses to take you to the terminal. We bought tickets for the hop on, hop off bus tour, 20 euros per person. We were on for a tour for about an hour then got off in Corfu town, wandered the shops and quaint streets then picked up the bus again to return to the port. If you take a regular bus to town it is 5 euros return per person.

Santorini - we tendered here and were lucky to be one of the first off the ship. We bought tickets at the pier for the boat to Oia, 15 euros each, takes about 15 minutes and was fab. There you are taken up the hill to the town of Oia where you have time to wander the shops, cafes etc and admire the wonderful views. You then take a bus back to Fira, cost included in boat ticket. We were going to take the cable car down to the ship but the queues were so big we decided to walk down the path, avoiding all the donkey muck! It took us about 20 minutes.

Mykonos - we tendered here but the boats took us right into the town, beautiful setting, quaint little shops and cafes and lovely to wander around. It was just fabulous sitting with a glass of wine at the waterfront watching the world go by.

Dubrovnik - We took the shuttle bus from the ship, 15 euros each return, bought tickets on the ship before we left. This took us into town and we arrived there at 7.40am. The ticket office for tickets to "walk the wall" didn't open until 8.00, we were second in the queue at 7.50 and by 8am there must have been about 100 in the queue. It cost 150 kuna per person and they only take Kuna or credit card, no euros though you can use euros in shops and cafes. We went up on the wall at Pile Gate and walked the complete wall, took us about an hour including many stops for photos. There are various little cafes up on the wall for water, drinks and icecreams. Views were amazing. We then wandered the streets, a little market and stopped at a couple of cafes. By the time we left the town at about 11.00 it was getting very busy and we had a huge queue to get the bus back to the port.

This trip didn't disappoint, each place was very different and unique and we loved it.

  7. We stayed at Hilton Garden Inn in Mestre, on the mainland, would certainly go back there again. You can catch the bus at the door of the hotel, 10 minutes into Venice, cost is 1.50 euros single or 20 euros for a 24 hour pass which includes water buses, nothing nicer than sailing down the Grand Canal. When we saw others struggling to pull luggage up and over the bridges in Venice to get to and from their hotels we decided it was much easier to stay on the mainland. We arrived at our hotel on Friday evening at 7pm and were in Venice within half an hour, lovely dinner, back to hotel then returned to Venice the following morning for the whole day - oh to be back again!!!

  8. We (my DH and myself from Scotland), were on Star 28/5 - 4/6 and loved it. I'll do 2 different threads, this one for the ship then another for the ports. We booked to stay in Venice for 2 nights before which was wonderful, we had a private transfer to the ship on Sunday morning and arrived at 10.50. We were booked into a suite so asked as soon as we arrived in the building if there was priority check-in and were told there wasn't. So we joined the main queue, check in opened at 10.55 and we were through in about 10 minutes. We were then shown to priority lounge (where we should have checked in) and then started to move towards the ship at 11.5, onboard by 11.30. As a suite passenger we were taken to Moderno for lunch, cabins weren't ready for passengers until we got the call at 1.10pm. We then went to our cabin, luggage all arrived by 2.30.

Cabin - aft penthouse with large balcony 9732, was wonderful, very spacious and really chose well and would love to be in that one again. It was spacious, loads of cupboard, drawer and shelf space, coffee machine and fridge. We removed the mini bar items to a cupboard so we could use it for water etc. We asked our butler for teabags and he brought them and cartons of fresh milk. The bathroom was lovely, shower over bath, separate toilet, Bvlgary toiletries and always plenty of towels. Plugs in cabin - there was one European either side of the bed, and a European, a USA and a UK one at dressing table. Hairdrier is fixed in a drawer at dressing table (not one where you have to hold the button down!). The balcony was wonderful, 2 loungers with cushions, small table and the balcony wrapped around the side too.

Room steward - we had Gilbert who was fabulous, looked after our cabin very well and nothing was too much trouble.

Butler - we had Joseph, friendly and efficient but we didn't use him much, one morning we had breakfast in our cabin which arrived 15 minutes before our selected time, by the time I was out the shower the food was lukewarm at best.

Private dining - as a suite passenger we had breakfast and lunch in Moderno each day (when on ship), varied menu but the same menu each day. Food and service was good. Breakfast had a buffet then you could order hot food from the menu.

Priority tenders, as suite passengers we were first off in 2 ports where we tendered, this was a big advantage in Santorini where the small port gets very crowded quickly.

Specialty restaurants - we ate in Cagney's, Moderno and Le Bistro and enjoyed each one, delicious food and good service. We also ate in Versailles and Aqua, a little disappointed that it took 15 minutes there to get a drink though. Versailles service particularly was rather slow.

Entertainment - without a doubt, absolutely loved Barricade Boys. If you like musicals then don't miss their 2 shows, outstanding. They got a complete standing ovation each night. We also saw Vegas and Paradis, both good but not a patch on the Boys.

We loved 5 o'clock Bar, good atmosphere here and, of course, Landshark lager (a treat when you don't get it in UK).

The one problem we had was our OBC, had $425 which we had been told could be used for our gratuities but once onboard were told we couldn't. We had the UBP and Speciality dinners and didn't want to book tours so in the end we asked them to remove the service charge from our account then we left the same amount of our OBC on our account and hope they used it correctly.

Casino - we don't go much but do like Roulette and disappointed there was only one table, every other ship we have been on has had 2 roulette tables. This meant it was very difficult to be able to play in the evening.

On disembarkation, we had priority as in a suite, walked through the door of the ship at 8.00 as one of the first passengers, collected luggage and were outside the terminal building by 8.05 - fastest time ever and so smooth.

We would definitely do the Star again but would love to be back in the same cabin.

I will do a separate report on our ports later, if anyone has questions I will try and answer them.

  9. We came off Star a couple of days ago, ship docked about 6am but first passengers got of at 8am. We were a suite passenger, walked out the door at 8am, straight through, collected luggage and were outside the building by 8.05! No passport control in arrivals in Venice. We had a private transfer booked and were at the airport for 8.45. Unfortunately the desk for our flight wasn't open, we had to wait until 9.30, check in then took ages to go through security, airport was so chaotic, worst I have seen.
