  1. Choose the Harmony! I have been on both and with the Harmony being so new, everything is beautiful and the service is excellent. I had one of my best cruises ever this year on Harmony. Definitely worth the drive. Oasis is older and starting to show its wear and tear.

  2. I have been on all three of these ships and would definitely pick Harmony! Regal Princess was pretty, but I was not impressed with the service or the entertainment. Harmony is the newer version of the Allure and I had one of my best cruises ever on her. Maybe it's because Harmony is so new, but the service I received was excellent. They have the adult Solarium in the front of the ship, but there is no pool, only two hot tubs. My one complaint was that they took the small pool away from the Solarium that is in Allure and Oasis. Even with that, I would still pick Harmony.

  3. That must have been so frustrating! I am sailing on the Harmony next week and we have a BW balcony. Several months ago, when I was considering purchasing alcohol drink packages for my husband and I, I called C&A and was told that the "free" soda package perk could be used by anyone in the stateroom. So, I went ahead and bought 2 adult drink packages for my husband and I with the intent of using 1 of the soda packages for our teen son and just wasting the other free package.

It is disappointing to read what you experienced. I do not want to purchase a soda package for my son while the 2 we should be entitled to go unused. I e-mailed RC about this last week and received the following response: "I am happy to confirm that you can apply the complimentary soda packages to any guest in the stateroom. Should you require any further assistance, please contact our Reservations Department at 1-800-327-6700 and we will be happy to help."

Of course, what guest services advises frequently does not reflect what actually happens on the ships.

So just give your son your husbands sea pass when he wants to go order a soda. Or just let him keep that sea pass all week. The only time your husband will really need it is for identification when getting on or off the ship.

  4. Sounds like a great idea. I always like to be up at the front of the ship for sailaway. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure what is up at the front of the ship? We are usually at the Sky Bar on Deck 16 for sailaway. How does that sound? Come by, we can meet and say hi and then you can head up front if you want. At least we will have met and can spot each other throughout the week. We will be in cabin 10317, balcony view of the Boardwalk.

  5. Hi Richard and Michael,

A friend of mine and I are traveling together. Both of us are from Ft. Lauderdale. Let's plan to grab a drink together.

That would be great, let's do that. Maybe we could arrange to meet somewhere at sail away to introduce ourselves and then we could make arrangements to meet during the week. We are scheduled for My Time Dining at 6:30 every night and we usually go somewhere for a drink before dinner at 5:30 and then of course after dinner any night is good too. Looking forward to meeting you.

  6. The thermal suite on Oasis and Allure is a poor substitute for the nice locker areas on Royal's earlier classes of ships with the complimentary saunas/steam rooms. On Oasis/Allure, the men's locker area is down a hall from the thermal suite. There is a small steam room, small sauna, and an aromatherapy room in the thermal suite, as well as heated ceramic lounges and two specialty showers. The area is mixed-sex, so bathing suits are required, which is uncomfortable and unhygienic. The area is small and noisy if more than a few people are in it, and the layout of the sauna and steam room is odd and cramped. You have to be careful not to sit near the steam jet, which doesn't leave many places to sit in the steam room. During our Oasis cruise, it was less crowded (although the people who were using it hogged the lounges and were otherwise discourteous toward their fellow users*), but on our Allure cruise, it was almost always very busy and noisy, very hard to relax. It probably depends on the cruise you're on how many people will be using it, and some times of day are quieter than others.

[* Funny story--there was a couple using the thermal suite many time on our Oasis cruise when I was in there, and they would use the lounges, then leave their robe/towels on the lounge to reserve it, spend time in the sauna/steam room, and then use the showers and go back to using the lounges, leaving the water running in the shower. I don't know if they thought it would turn itself off, or if they actually wanted the "white noise" from the running water. I would get up and turn the shower off, and they would use the shower again after a few minutes and leave it running.]

I would have also taken their towels/robes off of the lounges. I do this at the pool when I see them sitting empty too long.
