Looking for input from folks who've actually sailed Carnival to Alaska.

Although we're platinum on Carnival, our only cruise to Alaska was on Celebrity. We're thinking very seriously about doing another Alaska cruise in '20, and curious about one specific aspect.

Celebrity has a naturalist / historian on board their Alaska sailings. Gives evening presentations, does "play by play" over the audio channel while sailing up the fjords, etc..

Does CCL add anyone similar, during their Alaska Sailings?

    Thanks!

We did Alaska on Carnival a few years back and are going again next month. The first trip they did have a Naturalist on board who would point out anytime whales were spotted etc.. And in the Tracey Arm Fjord she did a great job of doing commentary about the history and nature along the route to the Glacier.

I just came back from a Premier cruise on Pride.  There were 177 of us.

Everyone wearing a Premier lanyard was smoking in the casino...and most were playing the $5 and $10 slots and were in there for hours on end.

A non-smoker sat next to me and put in a five dollar bill and cashed out at $3.00 and left.😄

Who do you think the casino hosts want in there?😍

If you own a Casino you want smokers if you own a Pizzaria you want fat people.........I guess I'm more a Pizza guy after looking in the mirror.

You seem to forget that not everyone has the same likes, dislikes and desires as you. Just because something (Thai food) is readily available wherever it is you live, not everyone has that luxury.  This might upset you but I've ate at a fantastic Chinese restaurant in France.  Why would I eat Chinese in France?  Because we saw the place and decided it would be a great place for lunch that day.  I've also had Chinese in several other countries.  Here's an interesting article from a couple years ago about the state of Thai food in Fairbanks: Thai Restaurants Flourish in Fairbanks  P.S. There isn't a Thai place within 100 miles of where I live.

    A little full of yourself.

My son (17) packed his own bag. A single medium sized suitcase for an 8 day cruise. A few pairs of shorts, some t-shirts, 2 pairs pf pajama pants, a whole brand new package of socks, and about 20 pairs of underwear. No lie. He said, "You never know what's gonna happen, Mom."

This is the same kid who, when he was little, would take 5 pairs of underwear to spend the night at grandma's house. 😕

    Better safe than sorry.

Lol....this is me.  I try to cut down on what we take, but it is a struggle.  Since we no longer dress up in the evenings, it has helped quite a bit.  I get the usual "How many different colored flip flops do you own?" and "You really bring your own pillow?  Actually, we have been cruising for 20 years and I have a packing list that I tweak all the time. After all, you can't run out to grab something at Walmart in the middle of the ocean!  Bottom line is that you can check as many bags as you wish.  The "suggestion" is to try to cut down on the amount of luggage they have to handle.  Enjoy your cruise!

On one cruise we went on we let our daughters pack their own bags........one bag was nothing but shoes.

Being a smoker I would not have a issue with smoke free nights,   Maybe split the cruise in half.

I also would not have a issue with totally smoke free if they had a area (lounge) close by.  I don't want to take 30-40 minutes just to go have a smoke.

Some princess ships have a enclosed smoking lounge on one side of the casino.

Some RCI ships have the casino by the promenade where you could just walk out side and smoke.

I feel better design could work for both non and smokers alike.

Don't start bringing logical ideas into this.

  7. Even though the percentage of people who smoke keeps dropping it will be awhile before they change it. "Cigarette smoking is associated with increased severity of gambling problems in treatment-seeking gamblers".....National Institute of Health".......the percentage of gamblers who smoke is far greater than the general population and Casinos are profit making centers on ships. So they will cater to those who bring the most money and spend the most time in there.

We are taking our 1st Alaskan cruise next month and our 1st trip to Seattle. With the Max jet problem the airlines are changing schedules. We just got notified our leaving flight has changed to 1030am and of course its the only option available for that day. Is this possible to make if we self debark and take a taxi?

    Please help and thanks

Not trying to spend your money for you but you may think of staying the night in Seattle and enjoy it and take a flight the next day. I would hate to worry about my flight back during the cruise.

  9. The reason for this hearing is to establish why this happened after the fine and warning previous. I have a feeling that Carnival Corp and the execs have plenty of documentation showing fixes that they said they would implement etc. The real questions are did they implement them were they enough and what was the followup. It doesn't seem to be fleet wide and if not why did some ships, crew violate policies and procedures and did they do that on their own or with corporation approval. What the court will try and find out is who is responsible and too what degree as in who knew what and when and what was done to correct it. We are a long way from the Judge banning ships from ports as there are a lot of things she can do before that. Even if she did ban them she would probably have a stay of the order for Carnival to appeal.

While I agree that the individuals responsible for the decisions and actions leading to violations should be punished, it isn't sufficient. With a repeat corporate offender, so long as the shareholders are not punished there is little incentive for them to force a change in corporate behavior.

The argument that the judge should not consider actions that can harm innocents is specious. It is not the judge's actions that will harm innocents, it is those of the perpetrator of the violations being punished. Stolen property is routinely seized from innocent purchasers and returned to rightful owners, without compensation. Innocent children are routinely separated from parents sent to jail. Why should those working for or purchasing from a company that is judged to be in violation of the law have any special protections from the outcomes of judicial actions against an offending company?

It also will have an economic impact on the tourist industries and their employees in those ports. The ports and cities themselves on loss fees and revenues.
