I’ve see people win a lot of money on that side bet. I don’t play it. Be prepared for people that do play it to point out every time you would’ve won had you played it. They won’t point out all the times you would’ve lost though.

The payout for blackjacks is lower than land based casinos. I haven’t see them raise the min bet. But I have seen ships only have one or two $6 tables that stay loaded the entire cruise where you can’t even play. You’re also more likely to find people who don’t really know how to play there than at land based casinos.

Also be careful if you don't play using basic strategy as some players will get irritated that you "took their card" or you "let them get a card" you should have taken. I use basic strategy but I don't care how the other guys/gals play as it is for fun.

  2. The reason they allow smoking in casinos is that smoking like gambling and drinking is a compulsive habit. So a drinker, smoker is more likely to be a compulsive gambler and more money. That doesn't mean they are bad people but just more likely to pay more money to the cruise line.

  3. It is personal choice. It really is time vs money. To me my wife and our friends our time is much more valuable than the few dollars it cost. To others the money is more important than their time. Both choices are valid to each individual. So decide what is more important to you. And whatever you choose have a great time.

  4. Oh how I know the woes of a stranded chair. Im sorry this happened to you! I thought long and hard about whether to bring a manual or a scooter, and I think the manual is best . I'm bringing my daughter along this time ( I had two legs last time, lol) so she knows she won't be in the will if she leaves me stranded! (like I have anything..)

May your next cruise(and mine for that matter!) be easier, more fun, and all around better.

What a great attitude and funny post. Love your outlook on life. Have a great cruise.

  5. As others have noted its only my problem if I choose to sail with them. Honestly, I didn't start this thread because I'm still miffed on $60 in fuel surcharges I spent 8 years ago.

Nealstuber if you not still miffed after 8 years and still are bringing this up then count me as one not wanting to get on your bad side. I have no idea how long you would remember something/someone who you were "miffed" about. Good luck and have a great next cruise.

  6. We were on the Conquest and the ship sailed with clear skies above us and in the distance two storms one on either side of the ship. We left our balcony to go up on the front (before they locked the doors late at night) to watch and it was amazing. Stars above us and lighting dancing on the sides. Now I might not had been as excited if we were sailing in one of the storms.

  7. Thank you for the extensive explanation on how the engines work. It appears that whatever was fixed in 1999 either isn't working or something else (other than the engines as the Captain said possibly to simplify the issue and put in layman's terms) is an issue. I would think that in the next few days, more confirmations will come through as to ac being out on entire floors and other issues.

Sorry you cruise was so bad hopefully everything will soon be fixed.

  8. I guess I am the first one to question something that I noticed in the original post. The OP stated that she received an email, and then her husband received a phone call. I am assuming that they are staying in the same cabin and, therefore, are coupled under the same booking number. How, and why, would Carnival contact more than one person under the same booking? I have signed in to Carnival's website, but with my spouse's info. Any contact that Carnival has made with us has been solely to my spouse. Just looking for some clarification on this...

This is just a guess but the phone number was probably the home number and they were still trying to contact the person of record not trying to get the husband specifically. They probably didn't get a response to the email in a set time.

  9. What a waste of $$$.

If you don't have $$$ don't waste it. It is worth the money for me and my wife to just drop off our carry ons and enjoy the ship and lunch bag free. All the other perks are bonus. Very cheap for what you get. For you I get your dollars are more important than time and convenience and that is valid for you. Choice is what makes America great. Have a great cruise.
