1. No upgrade or upsell and no note...just a notation on our final docs about it with the Explore 4 perks as well. We had a Pinnacle dinner and flowers as a compensation for an issue with the tour portion of last year's cruise/tour so it could be part of that and I just don't remember it. It is better than the house wine by the glass except for the Montepulciano that they have in the Canaletto - it is very good and also available in the Lino Bar I discovered.

It probably is compensation for your issue last year. I had an issue this year on the Westerdam and ended up with the 3 Bottle Wine deal as well as a healthy on board credit for my next cruise.:):D:)

  2. Happy Canada Day! [emoji260] I was going to post a Canadian flag, but apparently Canucks got shorted in the Emoji flag department. Hopefully the sad little maple leaf symbol suffices. [emoji507]

    Good enough for me, thanks:D.

  3. Happy Canada Day to all cruisers ! ! I remember one cruise where we celebrated Canada Day in the dining room - as we entered, we were greeted with a huge cake with the Canadian flag on it. There were Canadian flags on every table, and it seemed everyone tried to put an "eh" in their conversation somewhere. LOL

    Smooth Sailing ! :) :) :)

Back to you Gerry. Hope the horrible wild fire smoke isn't close to you. Enjoy Canada Day. Beautiful here. Hot & Sunny. Expecting 26C.

  4.

I don't mean to sound glib, but I will not do any kind of flying excursion while on vacation simply because of the mishaps in Alaska. Condolences to the victim's families.

  5. Don't know what ship you will be on.

If you like classical music, have after dinner drinks in the Explorer Lounge while listening to the Adagio Duo.

    Crows Nest is also quiet.

Ocean Bar has the group "The Band" playing there.

Crow's nest on any HAL ship is far from quiet if the DJ is playing music. It's so loud you can't hear the person sitting next to you.:(

  6. HAL really should put in writing that people are still allowed to bring as much water and soda on board as they want -- both on embarkation and port days.

That way there would be little confusion.

JMO -- I don't see the need to bring water onto the ship as it is better than what we get at home.

You will never be able to convince those that are forever hugging a bottle of water not to bother bringing it on board.

  7. Since i am not aware of current liquor prices or CAD exchange rates, I can only answer your first Option.

Someone on CC asked me this question while I was aboard the Noordam last month. Here is the HAL Shops price list that I scanned:

When I was on Westerdam this past April they offered only a small offering off this list and for example, Grey Goose was not offered. If you decide to buy on the ship buy early as they sell out of some items.

  8.
I remember the invite for the Mariner Reception/Brunch on the Maasdam in April said no sandals. I was bad and wore mine. No one noticed.[emoji3]
Then tell me, why does HAL sell fancy flip, flop sandals in their shops if not to wear on the ship?
  9. We had to bid "Bon Voyage" to our doggie this afternoon, so perhaps the cruise will not be quite as much fun as I had thought. She was sweet 16 and had a wonderful life, and lots of kisses!

I was going through my photos from the Volendam last year, and I loaded a bunch of them onto my ipad yesterday, so hope to take some "afters" to go with all the "befores". Unfortunately I don't seem to have any from the Explorers' Lounge, but I hope it is looking more respectable.

So sorry to read this. Sixteen years was a good long life. My Sincere sympathies.

  10. Thanks, all, for your good wishes. Yes, this is still going to be a surprise for the in-laws, or maybe a shock! We got three upsell offers, and took one that puts us almost right across from them - maybe we'll be in the same muster area!

We're looking forward to one week from today! :D

PS I'll let you know how it goes.....

Sounds like fun - enjoy and do let us know.:):D:)

  11. I agree with all of you who say the sounds are too loud! My solution is to not attend the shows and to comment about the audio discomfort on my evaluations. Maybe if ALL of us put our complaint in writing we will get somewhere with it.

You may have a good point. I'll remember that the next cruise.

  12. The BB King music is so loud that it actually hurts. We left the one and only performance we attended after ten minutes. They were very good, mind you, but so very loud.

I was on the same cruise as you and agree the BBKing music was way too loud. I also could not attend for the whole show.
