  1. Check out the Sante Wellness Center. We went several years ago and are considering it again this summer. Absolutely awesome!

Do they have a webpage? I cant seem to find it. Thanks!

Sante Wellness center has been closed for some time.

I think Parrot Tree plantation, where it was located, may have its own facility now, also spas at Infinity Resort, Barefoot Cay and Clarion Suites are open to the public,I believe. The other spa which was widely used by cruisers was Spa Baan Suerte at Sandy Bay,which was closed temporarily but appears to have reopened

    http://www.spabaansuerte.com/cruise.html

I haven't visited any of these but since you don't seem to be getting any replies, I hope this will help your search. You will get more reviews if you put "spa" into the search engine on this forum.

  2. Our ship will be in port from 8-5. What time does the bar hop start and what should we do before hand ? This will be GF first cruise so maybe Nachi for the day would be better. Any input is appreciated.

The bar hop starts at different times on different days depending on what ships are in port. It is best to contact Tom at the bar hop website directly to confirm what time it would be leaving on the day you are in port. Also consider ship time and local time. You would need to get to the meeting point form whatever pier you dock at but would be dropped off at your pier on return.

Nachi and the bar hop are very different excursions so cannot really advise which would be best for you. If you have any particular questions or concerns perhaps someone could help further. HTH.

  3. You have to Pre-book. BUT if you can't decide and want to go last minute, you can go to their designated meeting place and try and get on. We had four people join our van, which worked out well since we only had 8 signed up.

They do not have the bar hop if they don't have enough pre-registered. When we did it, we met right near the Punta Langosta shops at the Starbucks (which isn't there anymore). You'd have to find out their current meeting point and show up there if you wanted to try and get on last minute.

Your best bet is to pre-register.

I second these recommendations. I have read current meeting place is round the corner at Carlos and Charlies patio.

Also note the "hop" does not leave at the same time every day it depends on what ships are in port and for what hours. I have noticed some third party sites have lower deposit if that is a concern but I don't know what their cancellation policies are.

  4. Forgot to add, I don't recall any bad smells or trash - the resort was well maintained and clean when I visited. We did walk round the lagoon and there was some debris that had collected in areas where the tide came in which probably was worst or better at times depending on weather.

I consider the lagoon area to be "pseudo-pretty" - it is quiet and relaxing but I find the lack of wave action and flat sand rather artificial, which of course it is! To me the main attraction is the pool but then I prefer to swim in a nice pool rather than the sea!

I think you will find nice photo ops especially of architecture - the buildings, bridges, features etc. I have just looked up my old photos and apparently there were beach bed loungers, I guess I just didn't notice or remember! I would certainly consider returning to the resort sometime and if it wasn't too hot I would like to explore further and walk round the marina area and investigate the resort facilities further.

  5. OK, NOW I'M REALLY CONFUSED.....

I emailed Parrot Plantation the following:

We will be in Roatan in November and we are thinking about visiting Parrot Tree for a day (while on our cruise).

Do you have a menu and pricing to your food and do you have to book ahead of time and get a reservation before arriving?

Or can you just show up the day and pay the entrance fee?

Thanks so much. The response I received was:

    Good afternoon

The entrance to the resort is free and the menu goes for $ 5.00 till $ 70.00 per plate

If you need more information, feel free to let me know.

Thank you very much and we are at your service.

Um, free? Why does the website say $15 then? Now I'm really super duper confused.

Our first visit to Parrot Tree we had been elsewhere and just wanted to look around and have lunch and in deed there was no entrance fee and we just did PAYG at the restaurant so I think guest is correct it means you cannot use the facilities. The second time we had a day pass (only $10 at the time) which included welcome drink and use of facilities.

It has been a while and I don't remember prices but don't rember them to be unreasonable or we wouldn't have returned for a full day. I think possibly the high price you were quoted may have been a sharing platter for a group?

I did try to reply to your previous post but CC wouldn't allow me to post a link. I found a review from a Royal Caribbean cruiser blog who had visited more recently and said there was free wifi and food and drink prices were reasonable. They also said they didn't find the pool and were happy with beach area with their young child. They had photos of beach beds which I don't recall, maybe since the resort is still developing more loungers may have been added since our visit. It kind of confirmed what I said about the pool and beach area/bar beeing a little distance and short walk- you will see what I mean from aerial photos although it won't give you a true idea of distance. I am sure you will find, or have already seen the report, if you google parrot tree day passes.

  6. I was browsing Google Maps and it appears that there are two ports there. One is away from all the shops and one very near them. Where does Allure of the Seas dock? Just trying to get our bearing before we embark next month.

There are actually three cruise ship piers (plus others for ferries). Two are close together, out of town, as previous poster said and Allure does dock at one of them, International pier. The other pier, close to the old town shops, is Punta Langosta. All piers have their own cruise ship shopping areas right by the piers.

  7. We will be returning to Roatan and had previously thought about going to Parrot Tree Plantation (but ended up booking with Little French Key instead last time) and we are considering it again.

Anyone that has been there, can you please tell me your thoughts? (Yes, I know it's a resort with a pool, man made lagoon and not really a snorkeling area)...but I would still like to know what you thought of the place.

The cruise ship offers it for $59/pp (adults) and $49/pp (child). Now I know they always have to make a killing off their excursions, so I started checking into doing it on my own.

I have found that Parrot Tree sells their day passes for only $15 per adult and $5 for a child (which would only be $35 for the 3 of us to get in). Then you have to factor in a taxi. Anyone know the pricing of a taxi to get to Parrot Tree? I have read some old threads that mentioned $30 for round trip...but how do you get them to return and be assured that they are going to return for you? (Or do they just charge you $15 for the trip there and then you pay the other when they return to take you back?)

Also, anyone have any pricing on the food and drinks? Or even a menu? I always like to factor this into the cost as well. If you do the ship excursion, it includes your meal and a drink.

Regarding the pool, I noticed there is a water slide there. If anyone has been there with kids, can you tell me if there is an age or height limit?

Anyone used the wifi there and did it work well? Is it close to the beach or pool?

Can anyone recommend maybe one of the tour operators that would have this day excursion and if it's better to go that route instead of just grabbing a taxi and doing it on our own? (I'm thinking on our own is a better\cheaper option since I did look up Ronys and it's $25/pp for 3 people plus you still have to pay the entrance fee to get into Parrot Tree).

Any other info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

We have visited Parrot Tree a couple of times and have really enjoyed it. However we are an older couple and have different requirements in what we are looking for, I'm sure. We are looking for somewhere relaxing, away from the crowds, and I prefer to swim in a nice pool. Parrot Tree has a series of three I think linked pools but no water-park, or lazy river.

I may be wrong but from reading your previous reviews I don't think you would find Parrot Tree has the wow factor you seek. The pools are very nice, and quiet, with only one small (possibly two) slides as i remember. I don't remember height or age restrictions but wasn't really looking. The pool is to one side of the condominiums and the lagoon, bar/restaurant and beach are to the other side of the buildings. I do remember bar service being almost non-existent around the pool.

I don't believe we checked wi-fi, or if there was a charge - but I am sure an email would answer that easily as I did contact them before my visit to ask other questions at the time, which were readily answered.

Both times we visited we booked a private driver because we prefer to have a driver available on Roatan, in case we change our mind, or the weather doesn't co-operate. The day pass has increased since we visited. There is some nice architecture and good photo ops. We didn't explore too far because it was very hot but I believe there is a marina if you want to walk but I wouldn't say there was too much for young children to do, besides the pool.

I know you are on the look out for new places. Have you checked out Turquoise Bay or Club Natale, two more of our favorites? Again however these places tend to be quiet. TB probably is more picturesque with nicer sand although I am not sure how good snorkeling would be from the shore but yuu can take a boat excursion. CN is more rustic, nicer pool, lovely private beach (a distance away)but not such "nice" sand. Supposedly good snorkeling a kayak ride away (we didn't do it because we had a toddler with us).

  8. Has anyone been to the Allegro Resort lately in Cozumel? We have been to Cozumel about 10 times and usually go to Paradise Beach and are looking for a little change. Thanks!

We did a day pass last year. Unfortunately the weather wasn't good so we were unable to utilize the pools and beach. We were particularly looking for a resort with a young child's water park area for that visit. If you have any specific questions I might be able to help.

  9. You can use the Coz Palace for the day? We have stayed there, you couldn't get in the door unless you were staying there. Very small place but quite. Let me know the details, we might do that. Ps last time we were there their gift shop had cheaper vanilla than in town if your interested. If you have any questions we've been there for a week a few times.

You used to be able to buy direct from hotel lobby. I would email reservations to check otherwise you can buy through resort for a day http://www.resortforaday.com/product-p/czcopa.htm

  10. We are interested in going to both of these. What's the best way to get there? Distance between the two and is it posible to get good quality time at both places or is the time restraints a problem....(I always worry about missing the ship);)

A few years ago we enjoyed a tour with Cayman safari. At the time the trip should have included Rum Point along with a tour round the east end. Due to time constraints we had to miss Rum Point but did go to Cayman Brewery. I see they are now offering a new tour to Rum Point and perhaps they could include the brewery since it is on that side of town.

  11. We will be in Georgetown in October this year and would like to do something other than water sports, Hell or the turtle farm. Been there done that. I have read about the botanical gardens, Pedro's St. James and Pedro Bluffs. Has anyone done this type of tour and if so was it a good one along with who you used. Thanks in advance for your help.

A few years ago we enjoyed a tour with Cayman Safari http://www.caymansafari.com/cayman-adventures.

I think the tour may take a slightly different route now but includes all the places that you mentioned.

  12. This sounds good. We have 3 adults and two boys, ages 9 and 5. I am debating between this place and Mr. Sanchos. We went to Mr. Sanchos last summer and loved it but it was fairly crowded and very loud music playing. Excellent food and service.

I assume that there are no options at Papitos for activities such as parasailing?

I would like to climb the lighthouse steps while at Punta Sur and see the crocodiles. Are those walkable from Papitos or would you need your own transportation?

I don't know if you have seen their website but further details about what is available are described here http://papitosbeachcozumel.com. Also booking information and more details at CWS website.

Taxi will probably be slightly more each way for 5 people. I am not sure now it is becoming more popular if taxis are waiting for return trips or if you still need to arrange in advance or get someone at bar to call for one. Perhaps someone who has visited recently could confirm this.

Also I presume PAYG option still exists for those who don't want all inclusive?

  13. So where would be a better option for quiet beach, bar service of some kind?

For a quiet beach I would recommend Turquoise Bay or Club Natale. You can use the search engine on this forum or google images for photos of both. However you will not get "bar service" at either where you have some one running up and down the beach delivering drinks - you will probably have to go to the bar and collect your own or arrange to take a bucket of beers to your lounger.

  14. I am scheduled to be in Cozumel on this Saturday, May 24th...coming on the Carnival Paradise. I am having trouble confirming where our ship will dock, but I have it narrowed down to Puerta Maya or International Pier, which are right next to each other. I have taken taxis from Puerta Maya to and from Playa Palancar, but never into the downtown area where La Choza restaurant is located. On google maps, it shows that La Choza is only a few blocks from the Punta Langosta pier. Would I just ask a taxi driver to take us to Punta Langosta and walk from there? Does anyone have experience with this? I should probably add that I do not know any Spanish, and the most I could communicate with any taxi driver in Cozumel has been "Carnival ship". Therefore, the easier the directions, the better!

No problem with Cozumel taxi drivers. If in doubt take a piece of paper with address printed out as suggested.

    La Choza

10a Avenida Sur 216, Centro, Cozumel, Quintana Roo

    +52 987 872 0958

This is one of our favorite restaurants- enjoy!

  15. I am not sure how they police the number of guests per day, unless the limit is for the number of actual AI day passes they sell. It has been reported in various reviews that you can also visit on PAYG basis. The actual day pass through the brokers I have seen does not include transportation but does include park admission. You would be responsible for arranging your own return transport or perhaps they will phone for you.

I assume in common with other east side locations there is no mains electricity and probably a cash only venue for PAYG.

  16. Cozumel Palace is not in the northern zone. It is on the Main Street through town opposite Chedraui super store. It is south of Punta Langosta. Since the OP is at International Pier on Oasis it is a fairly long walk or short taxi ride. From international Pier, it is before the main square, if that helps.

As has been stated it is one of the more expensive resorts. It offers a long day pass, morning through evening consequently day pass costs more than most. I have not visited but because of its position facilities are reported to be good but no beach since it is on ironstone. HTH.

  17. We just got back from our cruise to Cozumel and the other ports this past Sunday. The various tour companies that have been mentioned here are OK, but I wanted to let you know what we did. Instead of taking a tour company, we took a Taxi into "downtown." While walking around, a man ask if we would like to take a tour of part of Cozumel, which we did, but there was a place that I wanted to see, and it was not on the tours that we had checked out. The man said he would take us to the place that I had mentioned, as well as taking us to the other side of Cozumel which is beautiful. He took us to the place that I had ask about, and then around Cozumel. He took us for 2 hours, and the cost was $35, well worth it.

Glad you enjoyed your day. Was this a random man you bumped into, a taxi or a timeshare operative? Why couldn't the taxi that took you downtown take you where you wanted to go?

  18. Hi all!

So, heaven help me, my Girl Scout troop wants me to take them on ANOTHER cruise! :eek:We went last year on a quick 3 night trip to the Bahamas. We're now in the process of planning a 5 night cruise for 2015 with a stop in Cozumel and another in Grand Cayman. This will be their last trip together before they graduate high school! As you can imagine….it takes a whole lotta cookies to pay for this and we are trying to figure out the least expensive options. We've got some ideas for Grand Cayman, but I'd love some of Cruise Critic's outstanding expertise on Cozumel! Thanks in advance!

Can you give some indication of how big the group will be and ages? Do you want something fun and active, cultural or nature orientated?

  19. I have tried to email them at the email address listed on their webpage through Go Cozumel but it keeps getting returned as "not deliverable." I'm assuming it has changed. Does anyone have a recent email address for them? I was hoping to get a price list of some of their more common medications.

I tried to find the shop in December and it appeared to be closed.

  20. For those that have been here before.. is it in a well traveled area? I don't want to go anywhere isolated.. :)

It is just off the main road between Coxen Hole, (where Royal docks) and Mahogany Bay. If you look at a map of Roatan it is just past the airport. You will be on Royal transport which I presume you pick up inside terminal gates and take you directly to Las Palmas. Apart from Maya Key I would think it is the closest beach to Coxen Hole. If there is a ship at Mahogany Bay all transport from there to West End/Bay would pass that way.

  21. Here is a thread that might help with the procedure at the airport. We walk out to the road and have been picked up on airport blvd but it is recommended officially that you walk a block or so south along avenida 65. Really depends on how much luggage you have and whether you are able whether it is worthwhile to walk.

    http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/cozumel/413080-arriving-departing-cozumel-airport-guided-tour.html

You can easily take a taxi back to the airport.

  22. I was planning on going on the Twister Boat Excursion to Passion Island because the beach on Passion Island looks beautiful. However, I just discovered the Salsa & Salsa & Margarita Excursion that looks really fun. Has anyone done this excursion (or the Twister Boat one)? I am wondering what resort the Salsa Excursion is held and how the beach is? Thank you.

This is held at Hotel Cozumel and resort
