  1. Absolutely 100% correct AND they'll challenge those who don't agree with their point of view by asking if the food tastes any different when one is not dressed well, which to me, is skirting the issue.
  2. The Mardi Gras is scheduled for a sea day tomorrow and then back to FL on the 28th. This is her position now ( the one circled)
  3. You're right. CruiseMapper dot com just refreshed
  4. I agree 100% as I'm semi-retired. IF you're going to be in an emergency on a cruise ship, having an extra day in Grand Turk and an extra day at sea would be the ultimate prize. I feel for people who have flights, family, pets, jobs, other appointments. Hopefully, they're not too upset.
  5. IF you go to cruisemapper dot com and put in either the port or the name of the ship, you can see where the ship is
  6. I saw them on the Grand Turk cam about an hour ago
  7. i was thinking of clerical & logistic staff, to hand over the keys, finalize any payments (if applicable), answer any of the hundreds of questions from passengers.
  8. I was on another cruise line, where we had to leave the ship in a specific manner, unrelated to any emergency (Customs issue) and we went by deck, starting with the highest deck, and it took forever. I can't imagine how long the process will take for the pax to get to the other ship. I'm thinking it's going to be a long day and hopefully, Carnival will send extra crew to help in the process.
  9. Though the fire is out, there are many pictures in FacePages Here are a few before the fire were extinguished
  10. I always pack a lightweight thermos and VIA coffee packs (instant Starbucks) in case the coffee is bad.. The last thing I'd want when in quarantine is warm to cold coffee.
  11. I just read here about someone on another cruise line who tested positive in Vancouver and unable to get on the cruise ship and has to quarantine in order to get back to Dallas. Some were recommending that they rent a car and drive to Seattle and fly home from there. Whatever happens, I'd recommend Plan B- what if you get stuck at the port town and need to isolate for 10 days before getting on a plane. Be ready for Plan B.
  12. The worst-case scenario, which happened to me, was that you won't know your cabin number till you arrive at the ship. IT was the one and only time this happened, pre-covid. I literally went to guest services to confirm my cabin number. To make matters more interesting, my luggage hadn't arrived, and I had to go back to guest services, where they had my luggage behind guest services. They were polite about it and got it to my cabin promptly. And, guess what, it was a fantastic cruise with a bump in the road. I was nervous throughout the ordeal, and have booked many guaranteed cabin since.
  13. You may want to consider that Margaret and Bryan are getting emails that belong to you.
  14. If you go to utube, there's a video by JJ cruise , giving a tour of the ship Scarlet Lady and they did a fantastic job explaining the different venues. And, Not everyone was skinny 😉
  15. There are women who use a PureWick at night- it's an external catheter. I wouldn't suggest getting one for a cruise if you're not used to or accustomed to it. I do know a few women who prefer it, instead of getting up multiple times during the night. Something to consider.
  16. I may not be totally accurate (though someone may know) the cruise line protocol of having TWO negative Covid test results before lifting a quarantine, especially if you're symptomatic (coughing, for example) I would read any info in your cruise docs to confirm
  17. The haven 'may' give you some shelter from the crowds, which is a good thing. Along with taking a look at what people are saying here, especially those who've been cruising AND are immunocompromised, I would have a frank talk with our wife's doctor or oncologist or pneumonologist about your trip. As others have said, make sure you wash your hands often and NEVER bring your hands up to your face, a practice that us health clinicians abide by. You may want to bring some self-tests for peace of mind.
  18. If you take pictures with your cell phone, take a picture every morning of the date from the fun times. That helped me when I went back to looking at my pictures. Some people do spreadsheets to make sure you can do everything that you want to do. I missed a lot by not doing it, because, you know, it's easy to just relax and veg for awhile.
  19. I appreciate your post. I'm not fancy 90% of the time on a cruise. In real life, I wear scrubs for work 12 hours a day, so for me to dress up for at least one night on a cruise is memorable to me & I don't care what others think. When at the Grand Hotel, I do it for the experience- I've been there during a "Somewhere in Time" weekend and have met Jane Seymour. I also worked on another film there, where the crew had to stay off the grounds because there weren't any available rooms.lol.
  20. thank you ! I'm okay with having only one elegant night- it's 2.5 hours of a cruise anyway, thank you for the suggestion.
  21. Great point. The cruise line also wants repeat customers. Those who want to get away from formal wear have been heard by the cruise line. Those who want some sort of "formal" setting have not. I agree- find a cruise line that makes one comfortable. I, for one, go to a hotel in Northern Michigan at least once a year. In the evening, everyone is to be "dressed up', whether you're walking around the hotel, eating dinner. I haven't found a cruise line with this type of atmosphere. I copied part of their dress code: Because every evening at Grand Hotel is a special occasion, after 6:30 PM in main areas of the hotel dresses, skirts, blouses, dress sweaters, and dress slacks for ladies are preferred, while gentlemen are required to wear a suit coat, necktie, and dress pants (no denim or shorts). This applies for all areas inside the hotel including the Parlor, Lobby, Terrace, and Main Dining Room, with the exception of the Cupola Bar. Children 12 years and older are expected to be in dress similar to adults.
  22. I also use the bag when in port- easy to throw in a few purchases and not heavy, similar to this one. I think the one that I have folds up so you can put in in your pocket RÄCKLA Bag, foldable, black, 19x14 ¼"/5 gallon - IKEA
  23. It’s doable. Wear your heaviest shoes instead of packing them. Do pack a lightweight bag ( great one from IKEA) so you have something in case of purchases. Be organized- watch u- tube videos on cruise packing with carry-on for ideas. As I’ve gotten older, it’s more freeing for me to pull a carry-on than carrying a knap-sack, though I did use them up to 2 decades ago. I’ve learned with cruising, the quickest way to unpack once in your cabin, iS how I’m going to pack.
  24. This is why I propose 2 different physical settings or times for dinner. Just like some believe that comfort won't change the taste of the food and they've paid for THEIR vacation time, Those who like to dress up are in the exact same situation. I don't care what people wear, truthfully, but, if I had the option of dining in a room where people let it all hang out vs dining in a room where people want to dress to the nines , I would choose the later. It's really a shame that those who don't care to dress up, - are upset for those who don't feel the same way about THEIR decision. It's one night. Let those who like to dress up and feel important (for whatever reason) DO IT. It's their vacation as well.
