  1. ...never heard of syrup coffee..wonder if they serve that on other cruise lines and we just never knew it?

Trader Joe's and Dave's (of RI) and probably several others sell coffee syrup. As I remember, it isn't cheap.

Waiter told me the coffee syrup is made by Nestle. ... Its a huge food company worldwide.

A story about my experience with Nestle coffee. We were on a land vacation in Dominican Republic and went for dinner to a fancy restaurant, La Cava, which was actually built into a cave. After dinner the waiter asked if we wanted coffee, and if so did we want Dominican or American coffee. The wife and I opted for Dominican but the other couple wanted American. The waiter poured our coffee and handed the other couple a jar of instant Nescafe (which is a Swiss company) :)

  2. Free coffee is syrup based. The regular coffee with the card is fresh brewed.

The maitre de' on Royal Princess told me that all coffee on the Royal & the Regal is brewed. No syrup based coffee.

I don't know if the IC uses the same quality or blend of beans.

  3. I tried to figure out if the ocean is rough or smooth between CA and HI, and got conflicting reports. Probably spring is better. The answer depends on how much people feel the motion.

It can get rough while crossing the California Current which takes about 2 days. The first two as well as the last two can be a little chilly.

Sea days are an experience of a past time when our ancestors spent time on the sea in their travels from one land to another. Even a generation or two ago had this experience, so in a way you are able to experience a part of what the saw and felt, albeit in pretty posh surroundings. The pace of life slows way down, if you allow it to. I find sea days to be wonderful !!

Not so long ago. I have a photo of a college classmate on board a ship when he was a youngster while his family was moving to Hawaii. (He is standing next to Hilo Hattie.)

  4. Been on several cruise lines...one question, is there door decorating on the Regal Princess?? Our grand daughter, 8 years old, will be traveling with us and wanted to make sure this was allowed. She really enjoys helping in the decorating process...TY in advance.

Yes, some people do decorate their doors. There was an interesting thread about door decorating a few of years ago. Here's the link

Have a great cruise, I'm sure your granddaughter will have a blast.

  5. Hi,

I think his name was Francesco, but I'm not sure.

Almost sounds like the Francesco (from Portugal) who was our head waiter on Coral Princess in 2009. His older brother was also a head waiter and his father was a retired Princess head waiter. He would probably be in his late 30's now, maybe early 40's.

  6. Hi All

Princess knows who we are, and so does senior crew, once met a Captain in

port, he addressed me as Shogun and chatted to me about a post I had made

    about him a year before.

    yours Shogun

I hope that post was not negative. :)

A few years ago a bar tender told me that they have a book with all the elite passengers pictures at various locations throughout the ship to recognize them and provide excellent service. I don't know if they still do this. With the numbers of elite pax on ship, it seemed it would be almost too large to be of use.

On my next cruise (B2B) I anticipate "graduating" from Platinum to ELITE, I'll watch to see if I'm treated better the last week.

  7. It's like another language...

The link furnished by GUT2407 has very good info, and if you can't find it there Google is your friend (although I personally usually use DuckDuckGo.com)

Another confusing acronym is SIL which could stand for son-in-law or sister-in-law.

  8. Hi, I printed the page which says MDR OK for lunch on embark day in case there is an issue about it. I'll show the letter and "won't back down". Love MDR lunch early on, relaxing way to start our cruise.

    Thanks :-)

I realize some people have had problems but I've never had a problem eating embark day lunch in the MDR. Some of the ships even had a sign posted with the name of the dining room open for lunch. But then, I've never sailed on Star Princess.

  9. Does anyone know if Princess allows companies like Special Needs at Sea or Carevacations to do business? I use a mobility scooter, but at times I might rent a manual wheelchair for shore excursions and I always rent from one of those two companies.

Both of these companies are approved vendors for Princess. We've used both of them.

    Have a great cruise.

  10. Let me put it another way....

Ever buy a ticket for a play....starring some actor you'd really like to see?

And...when you show up the night of your ticket, they make an announcement that, tonight, "the part of the lead will be played by the ubderstudy"???

    Guess what...Them's the breaks...it happens...

You bought a ticket for the production...You don't control the cast or any of the particulars....

Same with the cruise...You only bought a ticket to a cruise...how they deliver that is up to them...not to you...

But don't they then usually offer a refund if requested?
