  1. According to the Oxford English Dictionary-- 1. A captain's or superior officer's cabin on board a ship. Also: the largest cabin on a private yacht, etc., intended for the owner's use. 2. A large, typically lavishly decorated room in a palace, hotel, etc., used on ceremonial or formal occasions. 3. Chiefly U.S. A cabin providing sleeping accommodation on a passenger ship. (first found in print in 1754)

  2. Booked a cruise for April 2015 but didn't want insurance offered by cruise line. I need insurance covering pre existing conditions. How long can I wait before purchasing it ? Thanks !

Another good source is tripinsurancestore. You can visit their website or call them at 1-888-407-3854 & talk to a real person who can give you accurate info. While most policies must be purchased within about 2 weeks from initial payment, they do offer some that only require purchase within 24 hours of final payment.

    Have a great cruise.

  3.

My In-laws are on the Royal now in an aft room and have stated that the aft stairs do not go down past deck 7, so you cannot go to the DR directly from your rooms walking down the stairs. They said only the forward stairs go from deck 5 to 16.

That's strange, there were stairs from 7 to 6 (Allegro DR) last December.

  4. I think I need to change my cabin on the Royal Princess. I am in a wheelchair and my cabin is near the center elevators. After reading alot about elevator waiting time, especially in the center (due to no stairways), I think I will switch to the forward HC cabin.

Here's my question: would it be better to choose a higher deck or a lower deck to avoid long waits? I know by now alot of people grab any elevator - going up or going down - just to get on one. So what should I do?

WC accessible cabins are available on decks 9-12.

    Thanks.

Last year we were in A435. My wife uses a scooter. We didn't experience significantly more elevator problems than on other ships, although many others have reported they did.

Yes, we will be dining in the aft restaurant, but the only choices for accessible cabins are center or forward. So we will have to switch elevators on one of the public floors. From what I've read, the hallways on the decks with cabins are narrower than before, and difficult to transverse in a WC.

Also, we found the hallways to be slightly wider than on the other ships. Or maybe the steward's carts are a little narrower, but wife had less trouble getting by them.

As to what floor to book, I don't think it matters. Pick the floor you like.

  5. I too use the tape, and I also print out an extra which I put in the suitcase, In case the tag should come off it would be possible for someone to look inside for the info (or for me to replace the tag.

  6. is there anywhere we can maybe get a manicure or just hang out until the port opens

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance :)

You might want to check out the thread "San Pedro from a San Pedran" I'm sure you will find several suggestions there, you might even want to ask your question there. I remember several posts about manicures. Here's the link:

  7. Answering my own question.... I found the way to request distilled water for CPAP before the cruise.

    Under Cruise Personalizer

    Guest Check In

    Medical and Dietary Requests

Scroll down to Dietary and Special Requests. There is also a text box where you can request the number of gallons you want

"Provide any information needed to fulfill your request(s). e.g. type of allergy"

Smokeyham, when you order distilled water in advance, they MAY ask why you want it. This only happened once out of 12 cruises. Request came from the dietary coordinator! Also I believe there may be a charge after the first gallon. Sometimes it was in the room waiting for us, sometimes we had to ask the steward for it and once we had to call room service. As they say, YMMV.:)

  8. A couple of recent postings have indicated that the elevators on the new ships are crowded and very slow.

Is this true for the aft elevators? On the Grand Class ships' date=' the aft elevators are great. Much better than the midship and forward elevators.

Would the aft elevators be better, also, on the new ships?[/quote']

Personally, I've found the aft elevators on the Grand Class ships to be slow, especially around dinner time.

We personally, never experienced the horror stories expressed here on CC. :)

This was our experience also. We were in a cabin right next to the mid-ship elevators.

  9. they are all REIMBURSEMENT based only. In other words, you pay for the required service,,,, THEN file for reimbursement.

    .

Not all, some policies provide PRIMARY (they pay first) coverage; although most policies provide secondary coverage.

You might give the Trip Insurance Store a call at 1-888-407-3854 they are very good at answering all your questions.

  10. Thanks for your reply

Which hotel would you recommend the Crown Plaza or the Doubletree?

Crown Plaza is closer to restaurants, etc.

    Have not been here http://www.raffaelloristorante.com/

But have heard others talking about it and the comments were good

    Also look here http://www.sanpedro.com/spcom/restur.htm

Also, Wineaux posted a fairly comprehensive list of area restaurants someplace on this thread, most of which are still in business. You should be able to find it if you do a search of this thread or browse through it.

  11. Also, I know the money from Princess and my TA isn't refundable so how do I make sure they use that up first?

    3) Should I give extra tips in US dollars or euros? What would the crew members prefer?

    Thanks,

    Eve

    1) I believe that Princess's on board accounting system is not sophisticated enough to distinguish where each credit comes from.

    3) The currency onboard is US dollars so that is what I would use.

    Have a terrific cruise!:)

  12. You should get a refund either in cash or refund to your posted credit card at the end of the cruise for any unused OBC. ;)

    US $$$

Last December Princess did not refund to my credit card, they mailed me a check.

  13. Plenty of free coffee thoughout the ship, in the dining room, restaurants and buffet. However, it's made from concentrate, not brewed. For most people, it's fine.

Exception is Royal Princess, and I presume Regal Princess, the coffee is brewed and not from concentrate. I don't know if it is the same as the brewed coffee in the IC. Also, I do not know whether or not this will be implemented fleet wide.

  14. Just to clarify something I read....does the internet for platinum apply to EACH PERSON in a cabin that Platinum or is it a 'cabin' benefit? How do you go about getting the additional minutes or do you each just setup a separate internet account?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It is a per person benefit.

    Yes, Thrak is right.

Each person has to set up their own account. You can not combine them into one longer account.

  15. Correct and this IS a BIG secret because if you ask the staff welcoming you on board which dining room is open, they will direct you to Horizon Court which is what they have been trained to say. ;) Look at your deck plans before you board and know where you need to go and try each of the anytime dining areas - one is sure to be operating! We have done this on our last several cruise and always get a great quiet meal away from the hustle of the buffet

Never had that experience. Have always been directed to the dining room (unless we boarded after they stopped serving). A couple of times there even were signs directing to the dining room.
