  1. Today on the news, they mentioned the strong chance that this winter we will see the strongest El Nino yet - hopefully bringing rain to California.

So this being our first cruise and we travel first week of December, does anyone know if this typically means more rain for an Eatern Caribbean route?

No, means more rain for west coast, not east coast.

I read it creates a strong wind shear, which lessen the chances of a hurricane,

Chances of a hurricane the last 2 days of hurricane season (Nov. 29 & 30) are very low and December is after hurricane season.

but does it increase wet, windy, choppy water weather?Again, on the west coast in the Pacific Ocean, not the east coast.

Just curious, I also wish I didn't watch the news today! :p

And remember, the media tends to overstate and sensationalize the negatives and ignore the positives.

I realize no one can predict weather, it can rain/be sunny, yada yada yada, but I'm just wondering if anyone knows about El Nino effects. :)

Remember, there is no other occupation where you can be wrong so often and still keep your job.

  2. Tell your waiter you have dietary restrictions and they will send a headwaiter to your table who will take your order for the next day. Then when you go into the dining room, tell your waiter you have pre-ordered and your cabin number. The headwaiter should come to your table towards the end of the meal with the next day's menus.

  3. Thank you for the info. Any idea if the laundry rooms outside the M220 cabin are a noise issue?

Laundry rooms are not near M220, they're by M622, see deck plan--

  4. We want to go back when the new locks open though I cannot see that they will open when expected.

The original opening was scheduled for this month, June, 2015.

I, too, would like to go back when the new locks open (opening day would be great) but if you can predict (accurately) when the new locks will open you should head to Vegas.:)

  5. We've done this test several times:

We have suitcases with two handles. On one I put a luggage tag sealed with clear packing tape. On the other handle I just did the as instructed folding of the paper with no other protection.

Guess what! The unprotected ones were not damaged either. It's amazing how strong paper is when folded three times. ;)

    LuLu,

I always use clear tape over the paper tags, not to add strength but for some protection in case of rain. Printer ink tends to run when wet.

  6. Glad to read that you've resolved this problem.

I have even suggested that I learn how to start the IV, but DH will have none of it. Gee, I wonder why?? :D

Your comment reminded me of an experience I had when I was 16. My dad needed to have antibiotic injections (IM not IV) and I was selected to give them. Dad took one look at me with the syringe in my hand and bolted, locking himself in the bathroom.

  7. I'm still waiting for an answer from the SpecialNeeds site. Guess I'll have to phone to get my questions answered. I hate the wait time on hold./QUOTE]

This company often uses the first name of the clerk in the from column of your email provider rather than the company name. The result (at least for me) is that sometimes I don't realize they've sent something to me.

Also, did you check your junk mail folder?

  8. Actually, that also happened to us on our last cruise. We also had to firmly request Fiesta deck (6). The WS have been on the Grand for over two years.

Actually, I believe the WS have been on the Grand since the dry dock in 2011 when they cut off skywalkers.

To return to the original question--

    from Princess web site:

    Afternoon Tea

Complimentary afternoon tea may be served in your stateroom, should you wish. You may request this via room service at least six hours prior to the desired delivery time.

Doesn't say anything about white glove service.

  9.

*well, OK, on the "First Time Cruisers" subforum, but I didn't want to admit (w/only 1 cruise under my belt) that I still feel a need to peruse over there.

  10. Princess doesn't have the port times up for the December '16 Caribbean sailings, but I did find the port times on a couple of other sites in case anyone is looking for them.

I was a little disappointed with a few of the short port days. I'm thinking about the 12/10 Royal sailing. Curacao is 7-2 and Grenada is 1-7. That doesn't give much time to enjoy the islands. The other islands are almost full days.

I'm a little confused. Princess.com does not list any sailings for Royal Princess for December, 2016. A 20 day sailing is listed for December, 2015 with stops in Grenada from 7am to 2pm and Curacao from 7am to 5pm.

  11. Disembarked from Dawn Princess last week where Dad's walking frame was about 1cm too wide to slide through the stateroom door (as we knew in advance).

Does anyone know whether P&O have wider doors than Dawn? Preferably specifically Pacific Dawn or Pacific Jewel? I have found some info on the net about P&O UK ships that suggest the minimum width is 53cm, which would be ok for a 47cm walking frame, but not sure if this applies to P&O's fleet generally and initial enquiries with P&O cruise consultants haven't been reassuring.

Don't forget you have to subtract about 5-6cm for the door. The 53cm is the door frame opening.

  12. I certainly do appreciate your review and pictures. You addressed many of my concerns about booking the Regal. But after four cruises on the Crown and one on the Ruby, we really wanted to try a different ship. I was disappointed to see the handicapped cabins were midships and combined with the lack of stairs. I can only imagine the wait for those in wheelchairs will be considerably longer than on past cruises.

I understand there is a lower route to the theater for handicapped access. I'm hoping that the handicapped seating is not limited to those far left/right seats where stage visibility is poor.

There are four HC rooms by the forward elevators on several decks (301,302,303 & 304).

In December, 2013 we had one of those mid-ship HC cabins and we didn't have a serious problem with the elevators. Also the halls appear to be slightly wider so didn't have as much trouble getting a scooter past them as on the Grand class ships.

They also have the same access and seating in the rear of the theater as most of the other Princess ships.

  13. Hi! I have searched to try to find the answer and have not been successful...so....I looked on insuremytrip.com to get insurance for our Sept Alaska cruise on the Ruby. I am an insurance idiot..not sure what I should look for to compare the various plans offered. Has anyone used this site? If so, do you have any hints and what should one included on the trip cost? Cruise of course, airfare, hotels, dog boarding...or just items you would be charged for in paid in advance and would not be refundable? Thanks in advance to any/all that can give me some guidance.

I suggest you call the Trip Insurance Store at 888-407-3854 and talk to Steve or one of his employees. They will be able to answer all of your questions. They are especially helpful to "Insurance idiots".
