Thanks for the info everyone. There are so many different opinions and experiences regarding MSC cruises, I just hope we´ve done the right thing with this booking. Living in the campo in Spain has probably prepared us for the Italian experience to a certain extent as we´re already thinking Spanish :-)

Thanks AmoMondo. We´re having a few days in Rio at the start (any recommendations for 3/4*hotels would be good), then schedule is Santos, Buzios, Salvador, Maceio, Forteleza, then across to Tenerife, Lanzarote,Malaga, Alicante then Genoa. WE´re missing the last 2 ports however. If you have any recommendations for private tour people that would be great.

Help please. Does anyone know if the currency on board will be in Euros or US dollars?
Any other info or pix would be appreciated eg daily onboard schedule of events, types of evening entertainment, quality of excursions (we have usually arranged our own private ones), language of books in the library, cost of internet connection etc etc

Just booked Grand Voyage repositioning cruise, Rio to Genoa (getting off in Malaga) for 23 March 2015. Ist time with MSC and their booking arrangements are a bit odd (I think anyway) eg we chose our cabin, MSC said not available (although it was with another agent) then they gave us the cabin next door to the one we wanted, but said although the cabin number was allocated at time of booking, it may change to another anytime before the cruise.....but wouldn´t give any reason why that would happen...strange. Also that when we get off in Malaga there would be forms to complete to say that we weren´t leaving because of any form of dissatisfaction....

Will be in Rio for 4 days in March 2015. We don´t want a really flashy upmarket hotel but on the other hand we don´t want a hostal. We would like to be around Copacabana or Ipenema of possible, a small hotel with nice amenities. we don´t really want to be the other side of Sugarloaf. Any suggestions welcomed.

My favorite song"Toes in the water as- in the sand, Not a worry in the world!! Had that put on a magnet car door sign and it fit perfectly on the door. Called ourselves the SEA GALS.. keeping them for the future… Also had t-shirts made up with the same logo, a pic of a girl on a beach with a drink.. A blast!! Have fun..

Hi Sandy, as far as I know there is no repositioning cruise from South America to Europe in April. It was going to be the MSC Magnifica leaving from Buenos Aires on April 6th, but that ship is now leaving on March 22nd.
Ah yes, sorry. I was looking for the Lirica leaving Rio or Genoa March 23, so we could leave the ship in Malaga. It took a while to find it. Contacted MSC who said they,d have to get special permission for us to disembark there. Also they wanted us to use the Spanish site unless we produced an English address.
I'd got a bit confused with March &April as we've been looking at several repositioning T/A cruises & companies.
I'd be interested to hear any thoughts on Lirica, the cabins looked small and there aren't many cabins with balconies.

A light weight sober beach wrap is also useful to wrap round shorts if you need a skirt, or to put over your head and/shoulders when necessary

Is there any information as to how the fire started?
We have wild fire here in our area of Spain from time to time, in fact while we were away friends were woken at 2am by the Guardia and told to evacuate because of a fire. here it was caused by by electric cables being blown down by the high winds

Hi everyone, Just back after 3 week cruise in South America, plus 2 long haul return flights from Spain via UK to Sth america. Before we went I started brushing and using aarnica gel, for the flights I wore thin nylon pressure sox which looked like pop sox. then slept for the first night with my feet propped up on the suitcase on the bed.
It sort of worked. I did have some swelling, but it only lasted about 2 or 3 days. I can tell as my cruise dance shoes I buy a size larger to accomodate the swelling, but the ankle straps soon meeded to be adjusted smaller. Briliant

I can cut back on band aids etc, but it´s the electrical stuff that´s my problem, the chargers, the cables, the extension lead, the adaptors etc.. plus netbook (essential as I write a daily blog), It´s this lot which seems to be sooo weighty

Reading through my stuff getting ready for our next cruise, I came across this in my notes...I haven´t tried it
Flash drive programs here: http://www.pendriveapps.com/ Under email, select the Pop Peeper program. they say it´s easy to use and setup. Even aboard ship just write all your emails on your flash drive, plug it in a ships computer and it will automatically send and receive your mail. Minimum internet fees on board or take flash drive along to internet cafe
