  1. On other cruise lines, like RCCL, they do let you bring on two bottles for free. They only charge you corkage if you bring it unopened to the dining room and they uncork and serve it for you. If they want to drink on the balcony... no charge for those bottles. I have heard that many just open the bottle in their room and carry a large glass into the dining room with them. No corkage.

This almost certainly comes down to a simple "it's all 'bout the money" philosophy for Norwegian.

RCCL no longer charges a corkage fee on wine brought to the dining room. They allow 2 bottles/cabin to be brought onboard and you may drink them in your room, or they will serve them at dinner, with no fee. It's really nice!

  2. Am trying to research this and not having much luck at this point. Am I correct when I say the Breakaway leaves out of the Manhattan Cruise Port? And if so, have any of you used a "Park and Cruise" option, staying overnight at an area hotel and leaving your car parked there during the cruise? Maybe they had a shuttle to the pier? As opposed to paying the $30/day at the terminal?

Or, are there any other tricks I should know?

  3. This may be common knowledge, but it was not for me. When we were on the 4/18 Serenade cruise my hubby signed up for the Thermal Suite, which was advertised for $119 for the cruise. Actually, it was $119 plus an 18% gratuity. Why there is a gratuity charged for something that is a "thing", not a "service" is beyond me. We've had the thermal suite several times previously and have never been charged a gratuity. Just a "heads up" for those of you who may be considering it.

  4. We did the Chef's Table two weeks ago and for me, it's the one splurge we do on a cruise that seems worth it. Yes, it's expensive, but it is impeccable service and very good food. We had a group of 8, plus 4 more at the table and got along very well. It was a very enjoyable evening of good food, good wine and good friends!

  5. Just returned home from doing an 11nt in this cabin and there were not loungers on the balcony, but there was two regular chairs with a table and then two more reclining chairs with footstools that I found just as comfy as loungers. I'm not one who likes to lay out flat, so they were perfect for reading on the balcony. I just like to have my feet up.

I will say, as I've cruised in this cabin 3 times, it was MUCH noisier than ever before. The Centrum has always before been the spot for softer music....guitar or strings or piano. Now it seems, they have moved the LOUD dance music here every evening, and they play until 11:30pm. They do close the fire doors at 10pm, but that does not muffle all the sound. So, something to think about if you are an early to bed sort.

Also, a report on the mattress.....I found it to be comfortable. I never took the bed apart to really look at the mattress, but my friend said that they had not been switched out yet to the new "Flintstone beds". So, for the time being.....it's perfectly comfy. Hope this helps!

  6. Friends just sailed on the Serenade in Cabin 7596 and I was AMAZED at the size of their balcony (and NOT in a good way!). There were two chairs out there, but one had to be turned sideways because on the left side (looking out), it was so narrow that there was not room for it to be facing outward! I was shocked. I had no idea there was a cabin with a balcony that small. It was certainly a contrast to our huge balcony in 8102.

I think people booking this cabin would think, Oh great! It's going to be so convenient, right on the hump. Wonderful location. Then, they will arrive and take a look at that balcony and gasp! Just a heads up for anyone currently booked in that cabin on a Radiance Class ship. If you have the opportunity, MOVE!

  7. We did self debark and didn't hit the street until 11:30. I can't imagine what time the last person got off. Does anyone know if the ship left on time for the transatlantic?

Word on the ship was that the med emergency which caused the diversion was a heart attack. As it turned out, another passenger fell and broke a hip about two hours before the Coast Guard boat arrived, so was also taken off the ship. We watched the transfer from the Serenade to the Coast Guard boat, and it didn't go smoothly by any means! I was darned glad I was not one of the people in the litters. They also took 3 additional people (I assume family members of the two patients) and about 15 bags of luggage!

This delayed debark process was really, really unorganized. There were no officers or cruise staff around directing people. It was basically a free-for-all. It was a frustrating end to an otherwise perfect cruise.

  8. I'm researching our Breakaway cruise in November and keep reading about Spice H20 and the Waterfront, but I don't know what they are! Can someone please enlighten me? I'm gathering they are both places I'll want to be hanging out?

Also.....is there a list somewhere of which restaurants are free on the Breakaway and what the prices are on the extra cost restaurants??

    Thanks so much!

  9. I have only sailed on the Dawn, and am looking at a cruise on the Breakaway. My question is about cabins. These "mini-suites with large balconies" on the 8th deck forward are a very good price for 4 people. Can someone please tell me about these cabins? Would they be appropriate for a girls' getaway for 4 in one cabin? They call them a suite. Are there suite perks?

    Thanks for your help!

  10. I always have the patch with me, just in case. I've only had to use it on two cruises for a few days, and when I did, it worked perfectly. That said, it's got plenty of side effects, which is why I'd never use it prophylactically. I use meclizine and ginger as first line prevention. Most of the time, that is plenty.
