  1. DH and I are looking to book our first Azamara cruise and have a couple questions. We have cruised RCI, X, Princess and Paul Gauguin in the past.

We have found an itinerary we like but have a little bit of anxiety about sailing the Middle East. I started a booking on the web site and it said the deposit would be non-refundable.

So if our anxieties or world events convince us we don't want to go, can that non-refundable deposit be moved to another sailing if before final payment?

I am sensitive to noise so we are looking at a non-connecting V2 veranda on deck 7 on Journey, just aft of mid ship.

We are elite on X. Do I just need my Captains Club number to book, or do I need to contact Azamara to get a LCV account set up first?

We are sailing on Equinox next week, so am I right that I should wait and book on board for extra benefits?

Thanks so much for indulging my newbie-ness.

    Nancy

  2. As for the TA, yes, the 10% apply as long as you are in port in Barcelona plus until you´ve left the 3 mile zone (about an hour after departure) - unless you hit another Spanish port on the TA (except for the Canary Islands).

Even for online purchases the VAT was added - at least for those closed loop cruises out of Barcelona without a non EU port.

    steamboats

We go to Cartagena from Barcelona, so it won't be easy to avoid that extra tax for the UDP.

  3. We did UDP on Infinity in 2015 when she still had SS United States and Bistro on 5 and enjoyed it very much. We have a TA on Equinox coming up in October and are looking for answers to the same questions. Can't find much recent information by Google or searching the forum.

Never sailed Equinox before, so looking for information on what restaurants are present on that ship and how the UDP applies to Sushi on 5, if at all.

    Thanks in advance.....

  4. Ship: GRANDEUR OF THE SEAS

    Deck: 7

    Stateroom: 7654

    Stateroom Category: JS

Starboard or Port Side: Aft facing, slightly starboard

    Quiet Stateroom: No

Was Stateroom a Connecting Room: No

    Balcony View: Wake view

    Balcony size? Extra deep

    Was Wind a Problem: No

Any Other Comments: directly above the lounge so loud music would penetrate and actually vibrate the floor. Mostly over with by 11 pm.

We often smelled fuel exhaust in the cabin with the balcony door closed.

Often too sunny to use the balcony. It was only about 1/3 covered.

    I would not book again.

  5. On our recent 12-night Infinity cruise, DH and I tried the UDP. We enjoyed it, but did get a bit bored with the lack of variety.

On previous Infinity cruises (2010, 2011), we dined in SS United States several times and were graciously offered entrees that were off menu after we had been in a few times. This time, no offers. So we asked and they did manage to do steak diane for us and beef Wellington one night but only on the same night it was being served in the MDR. The dining experience a few years ago was much more welcoming, elegant, and impeccable. The staff were pleasant but seemed more harried and not the well-oiled-machine we had experienced in the past.

Visited Qsine three times and enjoyed the food. The service was great two out of three times. The third time, there was a group of 20 at the central table and we were largely ignored. We left without ordering dessert due to the extended amount of waiting for our order to be taken.

We enjoyed Bistro on 5 for most lunches and tried and enjoyed many items on that menu.

There was no lunch in SS United States nor was there a champagne tea on our cruise.

We are glad we did it, but in the future, if the experience were to be the same, we wouldn't do it again.

  6. We booked a 14 day cruise for 2017 while on Infinity last week. Got the "big" promo, one category upgrade (2C to 2B) and $250 OBC for the future cruise. The rep did not offer us the OBC to be used on the current cruise. We did the booking 6 days before the end of our cruise. Our "big" promo choice showed up on the reservation online a couple days later.

  7. We booked a 2b veranda as B2B this morning with 123 go for the first cruise.

DH and I had reserved Legend of the Seas years ago (late 90s, I think) to do nearly this exact itinerary. Back then it wasn't possible to do one way FF miles for a reasonable number of miles and the high airfare convinced us to cancel. We have talked about it often that we wished we had done it.

So with a big balance of miles in our account, we are hopeful that this time we will be able to swing it when the flights become available.

  8. Sorry that some need to reply snarkily

We looked at a cruise this year 2013 and decided it would be better for our schedules to do next year 2014. Same cruise line, same ship, same itinerary (almost since they have dropped a port in favor of another sea day), same cabin category, same month of the year. The 2014 cruise is $2000 USD more per person. That is over double.

I admit we were looking at fairly close in pricing vs far out.

So no. We are not going.

  9. We booked our February 10, 2013 cruise through our TA and were able to add the beverage package after final payment. We did receive a revised invoice from our TA indicating that we had the beverage package, but it never appeared on the Celebrity website. When I logged into my reservation today it was listed under My Cruise Extras. I was very relieved to have it confirmed on my reservation since we leave on Sunday! Can't wait for that first Pina Colada!

I booked online and then called to get free gratuities for our 123 promo. I just looked and I had to go to the view reservation, then view payments. Where it details the charges, there is a credit for the gratuities under "other charges". Since we chose select dining, it nets out to zero.

Seems like it depends on which promo you choose how it gets reflected on the bill.
