  1. There are several entrepreneurs on Aruba with wheelchair accessible vans you can hire for a tour. Upwards of $400 for 2-3 people for 2-4 hours.
  2. You've never travelled needing mobility equipment. It is often exceedingly difficult (if not impossible) and/or expensive to find an accessible vehicle. especially for a power wheelchair or scooter.
  3. I do not remember them being accessible. There are curb cuts on many sidewalks/streets, however some of them aren't in the best of shape. Many of the sidewalks are not flat (slope to the street).
  4. i am unsure how to (and iff) the calendars can be aligned. A couple of other things to watch out for: The APHIS certificates for each country may also be a bit different. Don't forget about holidays that could interfere with processing/mailing times. Of you are departing December 6, Thanksgiving could affect your paperwork plans.
  5. Here is s link for Sun Country regarding service animals. Generally, service animals travel in the passenger cabin, at the feet of the person they are assisting. https://suncountry.com/help-center/special-services#label-subtopic-service-animals Usually, one is required to complete all necessary paperwork regardless of whether there is a plan to go ashore. You may want to review your itinerary. Key West is not accepting as many cruise ships as in the past and your cruise line may have substituted an alternative port.
  6. They've had one in years' past when the ship was at a remote pier.
  7. I don't think the UK exiting the EU curtails renting a WAV. I'm not sure renting is easy (or inexpensive) regardless of the UK's status, There may very well be other cruises between Southhampton and mainland Europe that you could take advantage of. Barcelona itself is very accessible to wheelchair users, by the way. Rome can be very challenging without a good plan, especially for transportation between locations.
  8. You really want this fixed before you leave for the ship.
  9. We did this several years ago. It was the worst meal I have ever had aboard a HAL ship. Cold, undercooked PORK tenderloin. A dessert that was a blueberry, raspberry, and strawberry in a chocolate box.. Two of our tablemates left after the first course because it was unappetizing. Two others left immediately after the main course was delivered. We left about 3 minutes later. I had a lengthy conversation with the maitre'd. So much potential, so wasted.
  10. Your issue is to have a plan if the plane doesn't go or is delayed. You need to be on board well before sail-away. It's about 15 minutes airport terminal (FLL) to cruise terminal (any terminal in Port Everglades). if you've checked bags for the plane, getting them back quickly because you need to change plans may be an issue. You could purchase flights on two airlines for the day, one fully cancelable (as the backup). If airline A is delayed, B may not be. If choosing a single airline, I'd want a cushion of a second flight between cities and enough status that I'd get priority on a change.
  11. Ships' prices onboard are posed in US dollars for food/beverage, the spa, and pretty much every other guest-facing service. It would be complicated to reprint menus and retrain staff on different pricing
  12. Nope. Not especially safe. A freeze can easily affect flights.
  13. You can opt in to receive a free upgrade, based on HAL's definition of "upgrade." If you select this option, you don't then have a choice about accepting the "upgrade." The resulting assignment may or may not be to your liking.
  14. It is about 3 hours 40 minutes from Walt Disney World to Port Everglades via the Turnpike. 9 ships is alot, but not exactly "mayhem," either. It is about 10 minutes' drive from any of the ship terminals to the Avis location at the port.
  15. That transfer is not a particularly good idea. You also need to factor in time to pickup/drop-off the rental car, and assume the car you reserved is available at the time reserved and there's no backlog.
  16. And keep in mind a hotel may want yo charge you for an extra-early arrival. You didn't exactly state what time you'd like, but I'd expect a fee for anything earlier than 1 pm. Most hotels with bell service will hold your bags until your room is available (please remember to tip).
  17. Note that the 7:15 time MiGHT allow for a very brief gas-only stop, pay at pump. You also need to allow time for parking at Miami (assuming you are using port parking- I wouldn't touch it using a rental, nor on a weekday or heavy holiday travel day.
  18. If is a little under 4 hours' drive. I would not dream of leaving any time 7:15 am or later to account for traffic, accidents, etc. There are not alot of alternative routes, and a single accident could totally destroy your plans. That 7:15 is out of the driveway, not "ok, time to go." Flying would not save much overall time, especially if you were driving to the airport and parking. If the airline delayed the flight, that's beyond your control, with few options.
  19. Terminal 18 has a 400 vehicle surface lot. Parking in Port Everglades is $15/day; $16 for oversized vehicles. Getting to Port Everglades is pretty easy. Take 595 East from I-95 or the Florida Turnpike. The road ends in the port. If already in Fort Lauderdale on SE17th Street, the beach, or Las Olas, you'll want to use the Eisenhower Avenue entrance off of 17th Street, immediately west of the bridge over the Intercoastal (about a half mile going east on SE 17th Streett after Cordova Road at SE 17th Street/the Embassy Suites hotel.
  20. 1) On Vancouver Island (Victoria), I highly recommend the ship excursion to Butxhart Gardens. It is well worth it, and is highly wheelchair accessible. 2) Strength to lift a wheelchair is useful, but not helpful if there is no where to put the wheelchair in/on the vehicle. Assuming the user can transfer, they would need to be able to get into the vehicle (if it doesn't have a ramp or lift). The HAL excursion desk MAY be able to help you with excursions booked through the ship. if you book directly with a provider you are likely to get clearer, more accurate information.
  21. Tamarind is arguably one of the best specialty restaurants afloat. If you are looking for an especially romantic restaurant, Rudy’s is fairly elegant. Pinnacle Grill lunches (sea days) is excellent value.
  22. Non-ship excursions could, and often do, require some additional walking. Golf cart rentals at Grand Turk are outside the secure port shopping area- carts are not permitted into the space. Please expect to add on an extra 500 feet from the ship’s excursion transportation pickup area. The port shopping area at Grand Turk (and Margaritaville) is very accessible. Many of the shops in St. Thomas require a step up into the store. A few can be extra-high. Most do not have a wheelchair-accessible alternative entrance.Sedan taxis are infrequently seen- most “taxis” are shared-ride trucks
  23. Most of the Caribbean ports do not offer or provide wheelchair or “shuttle” assistance. One exception is Amber Cove, which does (sometimes) offer rickshaw assistance between the ship and the security office. It’s at least 1500 feet from there to where excursions leave from, Of the ports listed, San Juan and St. Thomas have probably the shortest walk from the gangway to excursion buses- 750 to 1000 feet. If you do choose to bring a walker or wheelchair, you probably will want to confirm with HAL excursion that your device can be accommodated.. Some vehicles simply have no storage space and/or may not be typical buses. St. Thomas, in particular, uses modified trucks with bench seating. Embarking/disembarking requires climbing a short ladder or stair. Greyhound-style busses require going up and down a stair. If you bring a wheelchair, someone in your party or another guest will need to push you. You could choose to rent equipment from Special Needs @ Sea or another authorized supplier-they will deliver the equipment yo your cabin prior to sailing. You’ll need to order at least a few days prior to your cruise. If you choose to bring from home, the airlines cannot for flying walkers and wheelchairs Depending on the excursion, walking at a particular pace is expected, or stairs may be on a particular route (shouldn’t be an issue on Grand Turk unless going upstairs in a building). The Bacardi plant in San Juan is accessible, please let me know if you go on the tour and find differently.
  24. Most stops have a good bar within 50 feet of the dock. Stop 3 is at 15th Street Fisheries (very close to the 17th street stop) The Boathouse at the Riverside is good Shooters is at Stop 9 Bokampers is at Stop 9 See
  25. missed that! I know it has been several years, but I still associate Viking and river cruises. The rest still applies, however.
