1. I asked a simple direct question regarding the possibility of how passengers could have come in contact with Noro. Perhaps this was spread by the crew, how is this offensive or inaccurate?

Certainly not offensive. I used to work med/surg as a case manager so I always knew who and what ship the crew member was in order to arrange discharge planning. You would be shocked at the number of crew who had multiple issues including Noro and with the exception of one, all returned to their ship...Hep A was very common.

  2. WJ is horrible for many reasons. It is always crowded, it is always noisy, it is always full of people who don't look where they are going. Food....blah, finding a place to sit is ridiculous. Many times there are tables filled with people drinking coffee/soda and playing cards or domino games....thanks for that. I grab a banana, make a cup of tea and get the heck out of that zoo. I will say that dinner is a bit more civilized but we don't do that anymore. I would rather spend money to eat in a specialty restaurant but we do MTD and love it. ;) Flame me if you must......!!!

  3. Interested in doing the Baltics, but in reading reviews, I've been wondering if I may get bored with the Palaces and Churches.:( I know of the pros. Any cons?

We went in May and toured with Alla Tours. All I can say is that it is a super long day (thinking 12 hrs??) with lots and I mean lots of walking. It is all churches and palaces, you have no time to be "one your own" as a guide must stay with the group at ALL times. I'm glad we had the experience but I would not repeat it. That being said I am a bit curious about Moscow!!!

  4. First of all, thank you for you simply wonderful report.

This is a special serie of bottles dedicated by Camus to the grandest french painters. This "topless" is from a famous paint of the Tahitian period of the 19th century painter Paul Gauguin.

I am one of those who loves the Impressionists............and haven't googled the answer.......but is the other bottle a Mary Cassatt? That was my first thought.......how fabulous anyway?!!!

  5. I'm glad you got a picture of my horrible zipline landing! Sigh. it didn't hurt, but was horribly awkward. In my defense I was given NO instructions whatsoever, other than "Do you see the landing area?"

That is scary! I am so  not physically coordinated (except for my drunken dancing which, frankly, should not be missed...or is that remembered? Hmm....) I have taken a header over a segway, fallen down Dunns River falls...okay, only a few freakin rocks but hey, you get the idea! I thought I could do the zipline on Allure....oh, NITFLT.......emphasis on the F. "Not in this fabulous lifetime", except change fabulous for the eff word.....Scary, but aren't you glad you did it??? Or NOT???!!!

  6.

Oh, yay! I'm glad someone could set me straight...I'm glad it was bigger. I should have gone through the doors! Drat!

Yep, you'd have blown away!!!! The wedding couple can choose how/where they want the alter/flowers and how they want the chairs arranged. At the other end of the hallway from the chapel, behind those same glass doors, is a cozy room set up with the cake, buffet, apps, circulating waiters with whatever the bride and groom have decided will be "supped"!!! My sister's whole ceremony and reception was 3 hours, then we went to muster (yep, in our wedding clothes), hit the Pub (we are English) then Phil and I hosted a wedding dinner in Chops. Fun, fun!!!!!

  7. Sherri, you are more than welcomed to come crash my cruise wedding on May 12. I am having 25 guest and 4 people in our wedding party. Do you think the chapel is REALLY small or will everyone be comfortable? Any more pics of the chapel?

Loving your review, thanks for sharing!

I don't want to be rude to Sherri 'cos I love her reviews.....her pictures are not of the actual chapel, they are of the door that leads into the ante-room....My sister had 6 in the wedding party and over 50 guests with room to spare (on Oasis). Allure's chapel is larger.........you will love it. I am assuming you've booked/planned thru the RCCL wedding planner? If so, ask for pictures of the chapel....you can also decide how to have the seating, "alter" arrangements because it's very interchangeable.

This is your day.....get more info, set your mind at ease. Don't know how far away from the port you are but you will be able to check it all out weeks/months before if you talk to your wedding planner.

    Sorry, Sherri......:o:):o

  8. There’s the Pinnacle Chapel…which, being on Deck 17, practically has you closer to Heaven than you could ever be:

I visited the Pinnacle Chapel twice…hoping to be a Wedding Crasher…but alas. No weddings that I ever saw. I will say that it was much narrower than I expected. You could almost – but not quite – touch both walls if you stood in the middle. I’m just saying that in case you decide to get married onboard – and want to have 10 bridesmaids and 10 groomsmen. Unless you stack them on top of each other, you may have problems. "

Actually, that's just the "ante-room" where the bride and her attendants stay while the groomsmen are already in the chapel, nervously waiting!!!! I know this because my sister got married on Oasis....there are all kind of hidden places for people to prepare for the actual ceremony. If you'd just gone thru those doors I think you would have been blown away. We were told at Allure's chapel is even bigger......

Just sayin'.............:o:o The room for the reception was at the other end of this ante-room so the whole event was private.

  9. Day 1: Embarkation

Is there anything more exciting than walking across the gangway onto a cruise ship for the first time???!!

    ]

Nope, it's my most favorite part of embarkation.........erm, well I do like see the ship in port, I actually don't mind standing in line and getting the carry on's screened, erm I am actually one of those nerds who would rather board late and watch the ship from a cool lunch place at the port.

You are reminding me of my first and only solo (so far!!!)cruise on Freedom OTS that I did the January before I flew over here to start my new job (solo for 18 months until, hubs could finally "retire" from Northorp Grumman after 23 years USAF!!). I didn't know anyone getting on the ship, knew I could hang our in Vintages or the Diamond Lounge.....fellow wino's are happy people! Every night was fun, every night! To sit in those places "SOLO" wasn't how I felt!!!

Sorry to hijack, I am loving this and all of your previous "Middle Aged Drama Queen" reviews..........we might be related!!!

Thanks for this, it's fun to read when it's cold as h e double tooth picks right now!!!!:)

  10. Hi. My sister has a bad allergy to shellfish which she stays away from. She does eat other fish (sole, haddock, snapper etc.). However, after eating grouper once she had a severe allergic reaction. She was told by the doctor that groupers "feed" on shrimp and that was the problem. fyi

I was kinda wondering the same thing but...he had the shrimp ceviche the next day (brave or dumb???!!!!) and did okay. Whatever it is, I agree with keeping Benadryl on hand at all times........doesn't sound like it was the shrimp. The nurse in me wants to know if this has ever happened to you before, Trainman?

  11. Alwayshappytocruise,

I just checked my e-mail and noticed you edited your original comment. Why take out the positive parts in the original without giving me a chance to respond? :( Maybe I am sensitive but I found that to be rude. I have priorities that come in life before CC. I just did an update, hope you enjoy,

    Ashley :)

    Once again, never mind...........

  12. So NOT boring!!! So many of us were reading your original account of being stranded and were so happy you made it home just in time for Christmas...okay, it was Christmas but you know what I mean!!! Thanks for this, it has been a good read....sorry for all your troubles and hope your neck/back issues are resolving.

    Lynda

PS I am originally from England and love mushy peas!!!!

  13. Jim, not to post a "downer" but....have you thought about getting a motorized scooter to enhance your travel experience? You can rent them or own them depending on your insurance and health needs. Getting tired walking down the deck/port must be exhausting in every sense of the word.

Dealing with what you are going through on this trip has taken a lot out of you........I know you will continue to cruise however, what's the point if you can't walk from one end of the ship/dock to the other?? Oasis and Allure are effin' huge.......just a thought.

    Your friend, Lynda (da nurse)

    PS Oasis wore me out!!!

  14. After the Bread Pudding I headed up to Deck 14 and hung out with the Smokers and drinkers for awhile.

Then back to the cabin for the sail-away from Labadee, a quick change into MDR Attire, and back to the stern elevators and up to deck 14 to the Diamond Lounge and more hanging out with the smokers & drinkers.

I took an elevator down to deck 3 for dinner in the MDR and I was alone again!

Good News! The elderly gentleman who was taken to medical on the first night is "OK" His problem was low blood pressure and they have that straightened out for him.

I talked with the Head Waiter and he has assigned me to another table with two couples. I had met one of the couples and went over to introduce myself. They are going to Chops tomorrow and asked me to join them there but Chops said "no room" so I may be alone again tomorrow in the MDR or go to the Windjammer.

Jim/Trainman 2, there is ALWAYS room for an extra diner at any table in Chops....if that's what you want to do with your "new" tablemates. Don't take "no" for an answer!! Trust me on this........but of course that is your choice.

  15. Hats off to Hyacinth & crew. The QE2 episode is my absolute favorite. I especially love when Hyacinth & Onslow kick up their heels. It was the one time she wasn't ashamed of him. :)

Did ya know that was an impromtu piece? The actor who plays Onslo was having fun and she went along with it.....I read it somewhere, honest!!
