I was respite the question about Edge class. On M and S they usually know who you are.  The question was how’d they’d know on the edge class

On the Edge class all Retreat guests' photos are in the computer that the Retreat Hosts use at their desk. They are required to memorize the names of all Retreat guests and their images. It is interesting to watch them doing this on embarkation day. 😊

I can see that on the M and S class ships but on the E class I would think that there are just way too many suite guest for them to recognize everyone.

Oh well,  Not my problem so will just have to see how it goes on our cruise.

We've sailed on the Edge many times in Suites.

Trust me, they know who you are and your status through the wonders of modern technology. 😉 And it's not just from you swiping your card.

Have you seen an Oldsmobile dealer lately?

There were lots of problems, but not being able to explain why they were different from Chevy, Cadillac, Buick, and Pontiac didn’t help, and being best identified as your grandfather’s or crazy aunt’s car just made it worse.

Statistically, millennials are the largest generation. Boomers are attriting to be impolite. If they always need Boomers (including me) they have a corporate shelf life…

I think you missed my point. 😉

I was trying to say that the Oldsmobile, despite their original problems are valuable now. Boomers are still valuable too as they have the most free time to cruise and the funds to pay for them. (And everyone is subject to attrition at some point.)

I suspect it’s complicated. Like most things. I’m actually more curious about Gen Z and cruising in general. Probably millennials as well.

Celebrity’s more or less professed target segment would include both groups. Especially the ability and willingness to spend and a pursuit of experience. Are they cruising as a group, or are they getting those experiences elsewhere? Don’t know. The challenge for a company like celebrity is to attract that group without throwing away boomers and X’ers too soon.

Ounce upon a time there was Oldsmobile…

Have you seen the prices some of those Oldsmobiles are selling for now? 😳

IMO, X will always need Boomers and Gen X'ers. 😎

Yay!  Enjoy your cruise!  I would  love to know what you think of the room. Reviews are limited.

Signature suites on Reflection (which we sailed 5 times) were our favorites before the Edge came along.

To avoid crowds pick an itinerary that minimizes rainy sea days and maximizes sunny port days.

IMO, to do that one would need the gift of foresight or prophecy. Especially if you’re booking a year or two in advance.

I am subject to seasickness and it always concerns me when people reply with info about how much movement on their sailing.  How one sailing works out motion-wise is zero comparison as  to how the next sailing works out.  I have been on sailings where the sea was smooth as silk, and other sailings with 30' seas.  Half the crew was sick on that one.

Here is the science of the matter - no opinions:  the further you get away from the lower middle of the ship the more motion will be felt IF there is motion to be felt at all.  So the further aft you go, the more potential motion.  The further up you go the more potential motion.  Far aft cabins, I have found in many, many sailings, also are subject from some side to side rocking motion regardless of the seas - usually not enough to bother most people.  The key word here is "potential".  You may luck out with smooth seas and no motion.  Or you may not.

    Perfect explanation. 👍

I get your point OP, my dad was 6' 7" and close to 300lbs... and there was absolutely nothing overweight about him.

But I can see the tour operators being reluctant, because tall isn't usually the reason...or the norm these days.

Imo, you have the winning answer.  The tour operators have to have insurance and the insurance companies set the “rules”.

Many unhappy folks.  Please leave Celebrity if you not happy with the experience.  There no need to announce your exit.

Strongly disagree.  The Luminae staff aren't doing anyone a favor by being open or serving food, it's their job and it's a key feature and cost of Retreat.  For thousands of dollars a day the Retreat experience should be built around the passengers and not the other way around.  Few resorts would shut down hot breakfast at 9 am, especially on holidays like Easter or weekends (although on a ship there's no such distinction).  And, on port days there is no lunch served for Retreat guests at Luminae.  Further, early end time is an issue on port days when one can't depart the ship until 10 am or later.  Even McDonald's serves breakfast to 10:30 am.  FWIW, on port days the Luminae staff are assigned to the OVC for lunch, which isn't a break.

Thank you, but we are quite familiar with the Retreat . 😉

And our room service breakfast order is placed out every night so by 9am the next morning we are usually finished with breakfast.

    YMMV

On Port days the Oceanview Cafe is open for Lunch

Read was is described under the Wake up in Total comfort -- it's all about relaxing comfortably in your room.  Nothing at all about having breakfast at lunch time.

I personally believe those working in Luminae need a bit of time here and there to relax and get ready for the next meal.   If you want breakfast dealyed, when would you want lunch started?  Ending?  and if lunch is dealyed an hour or so for your convenience what about dinner?  Keep Luminae open until 10 PM?

Having Luminae open beyond 9 AM would have a serious ripple effect that needs to be considered.

    I agree.

Some good news in the article.  New menus, new wines, stocked mini bar and it sounds like a wider choice of  room service items.  Just need a dining height table to enjoy them😉

    Amen to that! 😁

I asked X about safety, given that there are lots of loungers on deck. I was told that the passengers in the X cabins with loungers used them irresponsibly. My response:  if X’s demographics in suites (or any cabin for that matter) are too irresponsible to use their loungers safely, is that a line on which I want to cruise?  No.

IMO, X is getting a lot of first time passengers crossing over from other cruise lines. The demographic is not necessarily the same which would explain the differences in behavior.

I would think you could still hand additional gratuities in person to those for whom you wish to provide extra.  They may be required to pool them as well, but at least they will know you thought extra of them to give it and will receive something from it.

    I agree. 👍

We are currently on the Ascent in a Magic Carpet Suite and have two loungers with the tiny table plus the two regular chairs with a standard- height table.

From the posts from those currently on board it seems that the Magic Carpet Suites continue to have the loungers, tables and chairs.

So that’s why they call them “Magic”? 🙄

We have stayed in the aft corner Sky Suites on most of the S-Class ships at least once.  One of our favorite type of cabins on Celebrity.  Never experienced constant or even occasional vibrations when sailing.  I recall once or twice a brief vibration when docking in port.  Not a big deal at all.

Our experience has been the same as yours.

They have been around for years, but in the last couple of years they have blown up on the different cruise lines.  You bring a rubber ducky type thing and "hide" it for someone else to fine.  All good clean fun for those who participate.

It was fun but those who hid them were pretty creative.

Years ago when I participated in the search it took a long time but this is what I finally found:

    a “dragon duck”. 😉

    Perfect. 😁
