  1. Deck - Skydeck

    Cabin # - 1063

    Class – Concierge

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Bed near?(balcony or bath) – Bathroom.

Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – Very quiet

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – No obstructions

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal size

Was wind a problem? No wind problems. We cruised with great weather the whole time.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? Nothing that we noticed.

Any other comments? This room is located just off the forward elevators. A previous poster mentioned the long walk to the MD, which is true. However, we thought having a short walk to the theater was a big plus. :)

  2. I am well aware of what the discussion is about. That is why I wrote "He told me we can also exchange the sparkling wine".

To clear up any misunderstanding: The Sommelier in Blu on the Equinox told us the the "perk" bottle of sparkling wine for concierge, suites and Aqua Class can be exchanged for a different bottle; you just have to pay the difference in cost.

Thank you for this tip! :)

  3. I have booked Alaska Galore Tours for our upcoming cruise based on the recommendation of a friend who has gone out with them while visiting her son who lives in Juneau.

I know they only take six in a group. My friend had a great time but has not been out with another tour to compare it to.

The one thing that bothers me is that they need at least four for the group to go out. There are only two in our group so hopefully someone else books and our tour goes out.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has gone with them.

I suggest that you post the specific information about your tour on the roll call for your specific cruise. You may find someone from your cruise who is interested in pairing with you. We did this for a private tour and it worked out great. You can also check to see what other ships are in Juneau on the same day as your ship and also post the info on their roll call forum.

  4. Our first cruise was on the American Adventure with American Family Cruises in August 1994. The ship was touted as a dream for families with young children and it was. There were none of the bells and whistles that you find on today's ships, but my kids had a blast. We shared a table with a family with two children the same age as our kids and both the husband and wife were in the same profession as myself and my DH. Even our kids interests were the same. Prior to sailing we had filled out a questionaire that was used to set up table mates. On the last night of our cruise a helicopter came to the ship and carted off the cruise director. There were rumours all around about there being a problem with the company, but the staff continued to be great. Two weeks after our trip we heard the news that the company had gone under.

  6. We took a whale watch with Glacier Wind Charters in July 2008 and thought it was great. If you ask about doing a full day tour they will charge you a little more $$$ for a 5 hour trip. The captain, Sean, is a retired teacher and has lots of information about the geology and/or ecology of the region if you're interested. If not then he'll leave you to commune with nature. My husband bent his ear while I daydreamed! His wife made us a delicious salmon dip to snack on during the trip. They also provided us with soda and water. The boat itself is very clean and well kept. I think it can hold 6-8 adults, but the day we went out it was just 4 passengers plus the captain. We drove up to Point Adolphus and waited for the whales. Once they arrived they methodically traveled back and forth through the pass, so close that we had to keep moving out of the way. It was incredible. I will book with Glacier Wind again if we ever make it back to Icy Strait Point.
