  1. So you're from Dallas?

Down here you hardly ever find Asada, it's all Guisada. And this stuff tasted like little flat pieces of chipped beef not traditional grilled Asada.

I'm originally from near Austin... and I much prefer Guisada. But I've been noticing that a lot of places here (and there) are going more to the Asada. Probably because it's not as time consuming to cook ;)

I know the first time I ordered Carne Asada expecting Guisada I was highly disappointed.

  2. The arcade did factor into our kids' limits on NOS last March. We were able to set it up at check in. We had to go to and redo their limits for the tips.

We did chat with them beforehand, but we have one who is a spender and one who is a saver. So I wasn't too surprised and set their limits at something I was comfortable with. Of course my saver wanted in cash back what he didn't spend over the week ;-) .

  3. Ours was a "total cruise" limit. Also keep in mind that their gratuities will be counted towards this limit. We didn't prepay gratuities last time, so I don't know if this would have affected things (ie not appearing on account at all, still appearing but credit later).

So we had to give our kids a limit high enough to count for that. But we spent the entire night (okay not really) before explaining the "RULES"... and we'd review their charges each night.

Only one of ours reached their limit. It was at Johnny Rockets, so they just billed the cover charge to my account. Which, if it was more than just the cover charge, I'd have had issue with that (say $200 at the shops or whatever).

  4. Beautiful picture--thanks! We have friends enjoying that sunshine and the beach (and a drink or two) at Nachi Cocom right now. It's hard not to be jealous since we're in the middle of a very cold day here in Central Texas where they're also from. :)

No kidding! We're just north of Dallas now, but my parents are still just outside of Austin. We'd all like to trade our weather here for a day at Nachi :) My parents will visit there on their March cruise, and we'll be there in August.

  5. Great news for Galveston, and we Texans in general.

Brings up a question for me. As I understand it Floridians get great resident discounts for the cruises embarking from Florida ports. But when I put in my information and try to do a mock booking of a Galveston cruise on RCI, I don't see any resident discount show up. Do they not provide resident discounts to Texas residents for Texas cruises the same way they provide them in Florida and other places for some reason?

It's not on every sailing... I recently got a price drop due to a Texas resident rate that came available on my August cruise on Navigator. Sometimes they have short lived availability, too.

  6. Why is that? You have to get a beer at the bar why not get a soft drink at the bar? Am I missing something?

There's a lot of options if you have the Freestyle machines that you lose out on if you have to go to the bar. My kids will still get the soda package because I've told them if they sit a drink down on the table and they're not there watching it, they have to get a new one. But if I only wanted, Raspberry Sprite Zero, then I wouldn't get the package.

.... It's more a matter of convenience rather than having to locate a bar and have someone do it for a cruiser. I understand your point, however.

There's only a couple places the soda machines would be located and a lot more bars, but depending on the bar, there might be a wait. For the first cruise, my kids were a little nervous about going up to the bar. Then they got to know the bartenders (and they were freeflowing with the tips at first...we had to coach them on that a bit) and they were set. So I can see your point too :D

  7. Well, yea, I saw that explanation. But all they would have to do is put up a sign "When you switch to camera B, the view you are seeing might not correspond to what you are feeling and may cause some motion issues." Or they could only allow switching to the alternate view when in port. At least let people decide for themselves.

Except I could see all kinds of people to say "This ain't gonna bother me!" And then the room steward is cleaning up lots of seasick rooms ;)

  8. The guy we had on the Navigator in early March was HORRIBLE (okay maybe just not our cup of tea). Herman Harper II... but there was hardly ever anyone there. The one time we walked by and there was a bunch of people there, we realized trivia had just ended. 15 minutes later, there was no one. I felt bad for the bartenders, because they were awesome.

Now, we had Phil Anderson on our Mariner cruise in February 2012 and he was awesome. Closed out the Schooner Bar with him several nights.

  9. There is a piano player in every Schooner Bar on every ship. Some play in a way that encourages singing along, some don't.

We loved the Schooner Bar on the Mariner last year with Phil Anderson because it was very much a sing along type of vibe. Not to mention that he can play very well. We're going to be on the Navigator in 5 1/2 weeks and I hope this guy will be similar. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any reviews about him.

I also haven't seen anything about the Serenade, but that's where we're looking to go next spring break.

  10. What happened to this thread? the name changed, and it got suddenly longer? were two threads amalgamated into one somehow? Sure is confusing.

Yes, the "bring two bottles of wine" and "all you can drink" threads (and probably some others) were combined. It does make it confusing when people that don't quote the posts they were responding to or realize that the liquor thread is now in with this one too.

It's kind of an odd combination of threads...
