  1. Two things to report and much more later.....

Our November 3 HAL Koningsdam Cruise to Hawaiiwas cancelled.  That is the fourth cruise cancelled this year!  We requested a refund this time, we are tired of giving money up front for nothing!

We had a big and $$$ river cruise with Crystal that we fully paid.  The cruise was for July 24 to August 10 and was cancelled mid May.  We requested a refund on May 21st and they said we would be paid in 90 days.

On August 21st - 90 days after our request, we had not received our payment.  We called our credit card company (Chase Sapphire) and disputed the charge for non performance.  We received our refund of $16,300 on August 25.  We will not be booking another cruise until we are certain the ships are sailing again and think the itinerary and protocols are acceptable.

  2. Cabin:   6045

    Ship:   Journey

    Date:   16 Mar 2016

    Choose Again:     NO!!!!

    Noise:    Very Little

Balcony Size:    No Balcony, Ocean View Cabin

Cabin is too small.  No place to sit, no counter space to set things on.  Toiletry shelves in the bathroom are directly above the toilet.  No cup holder for drink glass in the bathroom - It could fall and break.  This cabin is truly dreadful and negatively impacted our cruise!

A negative test three or five days before a trip does not really mean much.  The person may have already been exposed, but not yet positive, or may be exposed after the test.  The person may have been out and about a lot  before the trip getting ready for the trip.  Even if the person did not do much between the day of the test and the day of departure, they could easily be exposed getting to/from the airport, at the airport, or on the flight.

Exactly right!  The only way to be sure is a long, strict quarantine and sterile trip to the ship.  That won't happen!  We can't win.  What about hotels, airports, restaurants, etc. ?  Why aren't they catching flak?????  Also, the person gets off the ship at a port stop and gets sick.  No way to win.

  4. The announcement came from CLIA - the Cruise Lines International Association.

The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) announced today that its ocean-going cruise line members have agreed to "voluntarily suspend" U.S. cruise operations until at least October 31, 2020.

The Association issued the following statement on behalf of its members:

Despite the valuable alignment between CLIA’s previous voluntary suspension to 15 September and the CDC’s current No-Sail Order date of 30 September, we believe it is prudent at this time to voluntarily extend the suspension of U.S. ocean-going cruise operations to 31 October. This is a difficult decision as we recognize the crushing impact that this pandemic has had on our community and every other industry. However, we believe this proactive action further demonstrates the cruise industry’s commitment to public health and willingness to voluntarily suspend operations in the interest of public health and safety, as has occurred twice prior. CLIA cruise line members will continue to monitor the situation with the understanding that we will revisit a possible further extension on or before 30 September 2020. At the same time, should conditions in the U.S. change and it becomes possible to consider short, modified sailings, we would consider an earlier restart.

  5. Thanks for the update!  Diana and I were scheduled on the May 18th 2-week Alaska cruise out of Vancouver.  It was cancelled and we took the FCC option.  We booked the 18 night Hawaii cruise on the Koningsdam for November 3rd out of San Diego.    That now looks pretty shaky.  We will just keep re-booking.

Diana and I both had the virus back in March and made it through just fine so we are not afraid to cruise.  We have been keeping active exercising and watching our diet, and I have lost 30 pounds.  Its time to go cruising again!!!
