You didn't specifically ask but I think it is worth mentioning...there are many fewer overhead announcements which I think are very intrusive.

I read your posts with great interest. We live in south Texas and no one from this areas has traveled to Mexico in years due to the violence and danger. Your descriptions of the Mexican ports sounded so fun and interesting..like Mexico used to be. Did you fel safe at al times or did you take special precautions?

I am sure the curtain between the cabanas could be opened.
The round lounger is very comfortable and large. Once my husband and I and grandaughter were all sleeping on it. In addition to the lounger there is a table and 2 side chairs. I don't know if a change of furniture is an option.

I switched from NCL to Hal 20 years ago because I didn't like the the noise level and the drunk passengers.

We are considering an inside cabin. I like the J cabins on main deck for their size and large sofa however the I cabins on the navigation deck have a better location for the activities which we enjoy, Are all the J cabins on the navigation deck equal in size and furnishings?
Thanks

I'd enjoy a local cookbook, local food items like maple syrup, jalapeno jelly etc, or placemats with local pictures on them.

There are many conflicting opinions from professionals ranging from nothing needed to a huge number of shots. When we went on a cruise to Panama and Costa Rica last year we got Hepatitis A and B and tetnus shots. I thought this was a middle of the road approach. Since kids need them to be in school. then we probably needed them also. If you will be going off the beaten path and eating in out of the way places, you may need to consider more immunizations.

Sometime in the mid 80's I inherited a few hundred dollars so we decided to take a cruise.,,,4 nights to the Bahamas aboard one of the smaller NCL ships ,,I can't remember the name..something ward...sun, south, or sea.
We stayed in the least expensive cabin. I had never seen a room that small and we even slept in bunk beds. I have cruised through the years mixed with land vacations. I have now booked a cruise in November with my grandaughter on the Zuiderdam. A tradition continues.
.Compared to an all inclusive that I stayed at in Cancun the food, drinks, and shows on all of my cruises have been wonderful. That vacation gave me a lesson in looking on the bright side of a situation.

Zuiderdam & Zaandam to the Rescue!!!

Several years ago on the Zuiderdam Cpt Turner made an announcement that he would not be attending the Cpt's cocktail party due to a receiving a mayday call and the need to assist in a rescue. The engines became loud with very noticable vibrations as the ship increased speed. I will always remember feeling so good that a large cruise ship would go out of its way to help a small boat and its passengers.
