  1. I know many of us will feel sadness at the death of Sirio Maccioni. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-04-20/sirio-maccioni-restaurant-ringmaster-at-le-cirque-dies-at-88 It was a highlight a few years back when he and his wife were on board our sailing. They did a couple of cooking demos to our delight and were such a joy. I have fond memories of them from that sailing. He will be missed.
  2. thyme2go, What email address is this from? As others have said, be very careful with your information. Even a phone number in the email could be suspect. Thanks for sharing with us! Hope everything gets sorted for you swiftly.
  3. I would imagine HAL will reimburse you for those fees. If you used a credit card to book the FF awards, you may also be able to file a claim with your card’s insurance. Some (especially my FF-associated cards) have coverage for change fees on award travel.
  4. Thank you, Ray and Sara, for taking the time to share these firsthand details of your ordeal. When we would hear news reports, we would wonder how things were for the passengers. I pray those issues with HAL / reimbursements get straightened out. Glad you are home!
  5. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us, Ray and Sara! Many prayers were said on your behalf and we are glad you are home! I would absolutely contact HAL about your EVA flight. Things were so hectic, I'm sure they are aware that things like this were happening, but they need to be notified in order for your case to be considered. Is your Travel Agent able to handle these types of requests for you? I, too, am curious about why your third segment is being handled differently; perhaps it is on account of the date that is still in the future. I wish you all the best and hope things get worked out speedily and accurately for you!
  6. Here’s a story that has some information: https://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2020/03/02/diamond-princess-evacuees-to-start-separate-quarantine-on-sebaru-island.html Here’s a quote: “Sebaru island is currently housing 188 Indonesian crewmen who were evacuated from the World Dream cruise ship in Hong Kong and arrived on Friday afternoon to start their 14-day quarantine period. Muhadjir said that the Diamond Princess evacuees would be placed in a different "quarantine block" and kept separate from the World Dream evacuees...”
  7. Some very good news! From https://www.jpost.com/HEALTH-SCIENCE/Israeli-scientists-In-three-weeks-we-will-have-coronavirus-vaccine-619101 "...If all goes as planned, the vaccine could be ready within three weeks and available in 90 days...." The article is very insightful and worth a read!
  8. For those who were aboard the Westerdam, could you confirm the deails from this article? https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/24/health/coronavirus-westerdam-cdc.html “...Tests of nearly 1,500 passengers, mostly conducted by Cambodian health officials, had turned up no other infections, the agency (CDC) said, and therefore the passengers are at little to no risk of carrying the virus. The Westerdam carried about 2,000 passengers, however, and those who left Cambodia first were never tested for the coronavirus....” Is that correct information? Thanks! I found this statement interesting: “I’m thinking they must have some information from the testing laboratory in Malaysia that would give the C.D.C. confidence in saying yes, that was a false-positive result,” said Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt University. “Obviously, if it was a true positive, you would keep all those people in self-monitoring.” Also “The irresponsibility of some foreigners on the health test of Westerdam passengers makes Cambodia the victim of its humanitarian work,” (Cambodian PM) Mr. Hun Sen said in a Facebook post on Saturday. “If I were the Malaysian P.M., I would remove the health minister for being neglectful and irresponsible.” Again, welcome home to the passengers! So glad you are alright!
  9. I thought this article was insightful regarding the Westerdam and the aftermath of the one initially positive test result: https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/cruises/2020/02/22/coronavirus-cruise-ships-westerdam-passengers-lives-still-affected/4841819002/
  10. Thank you so much for your response and for sharing your experience, AllureOfVacation! It sounds like you have a wonderful attitude and made the best of your time aboard the Westerdam. I have fond memories of my time aboard the ship. Thankful you and the others are alright and home safe! All the Best!
  11. Welcome home to the returning Westerdam passengers! I know you must be glad to be home after such an ordeal. Thank you to those who have chimed in with your first-hand reports. Many prayers were said on your behalf. I wanted to ask about testing, as there are conflicting accounts of how passengers were tested. Could someone who was aboard the Westerdam share your experience of how passengers were tested? Were all tested, or only those symptomatic? Was it while onboard? How long was the wait between testing and results? I was so glad to hear the one initial positive case is now considered by the CDC to have never had the virus. Thanks and Welcome Home!
  12. Back in June aboard the Nieuw Statendam, during one of the demos for America’s Test Kitchen, they didn’t distribute recipe cards and also said it was because they were trying out “saving paper”. That didn’t sit well with the packed house who had come for ATK, in light of all the other paper ads being delivered to our staterooms.
  13. I don’t like hearing that. When I was aboard her last summer, I asked at the Front Office and they had the NYT and daily puzzle sent to my stateroom each day. Perhaps if enough of us do what you did and make a comment about it, they might listen and bring it back.
  14. I’m so glad it wasn’t the coronavirus. This article mentions that 1,143 of the passengers were set to disembark at Civitavecchia. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/possible-coronavirus-case-cruise-ship-6-000-passengers-docked-italy-n1126471
  15. Yes, Nationwide has 3 plans for cruisers. I have purchased from insuremytrip and have been quite pleased. They kicked in full coverage when the airline didn’t pay all of our hotel and taxi fare after our flights were cancelled post-cruise. https://travel.nationwide.com/plans/cruise
