1. No prob! Where are you staying in Coz? Last time I did AI we stayed @ the Hotel Cozumeleno which is north of the airport. Was there on a cruise ship in Jan but we had nasty weather.

  2. My friend says allow 60-90" ck in for flight. Cabs can only drop off @ the airport but are prohibited from picking up inside airport property. You have to go outside the airport itself about 100 yards where they will be happy to pick u up! I remember that weird cab deal now that she said it from the good ole days of going to Coz 2-3x per year!

  3. If you take a Northbound Princess cruise it is one of the few that has enough port time in Juneau to allow for the all day Adventure Bound trip to Tracy Arm. As a bonus you will still visit both Glacier Bay and College Fjord on the cruise ship, and if you stay on for a Southbound B2B the second week you can also visit Hubbard Glacier and catch up on the Juneau sights you missed the first week. (with the bonus of a 2nd visit to Glacier Bay :) )

I have been struggling with this very dilemma for several days! We (a friend and I) did a wonderful cruise tour Aug 2012 and thoroughly enjoyed 99.9% of it. The one thing we have agreed on for the return is that we don't want to spend any time in Fairbanks. Been there and done that. While I loved Denali Nat Park, we spent lots of time on buses and trains getting to/fro. The Princess Lodge near Talkeetna was beautiful but I think we were there just one nite and there was nothing there BUT the lodge. The shuttle into Talkeetna was almost an hour each way. My friend wants to see Tracy Arm as do I but after reading various things and looking @ pictures I think going to GBNP would be a more enjoyable experience. The whole B2B thing sounds really good to me and prob about the same as a 13 day cruise tour. Thanks for this added boost to my fledgling thought earlier yesterday evening!!

  4. See my review of Jorge Ramirez on the Limon thread. He can customize whatever you want within the constraints of time, ages of participants etc. there is a market inside the pier fencing and that's about it. To get into the actual "downtown" area of Limon you will need to hike a little or get a cab. His em is Jorgel.cr@hotmaildotcom.

  5. (there was a 20" "timer" on drink orders) May I ask, what does this mean? I am guess 20 minutes between each drink order? or is it a 20 drink limit? I can hardly imagine having 20 drinks but maybe some do... Couldn't do it for all the money in the world.

I meant that there had to be 20 minutes time difference on card swipes. If you got a drink @ 1:20 for instance it would be after 1:40 before you could get another.

  6.
Thanks for the update. As for the Platinum/Elite lounge, you can order any of the six featured drinks any night. You are not limited to that drink that night. I often order a Brezza Marina or a Chairman of the Board no matter which drink is featured that night.
Question here....I am Platinum but my friend is Ruby on our next cruise. Can she be my guest @ this venue? We never made it to the lounge last month so didn't find out the answer first hand. We are in the same cabin.

  7. I was a little confused. Does everyone in the same cabin have to purchase the drink card? My husband is considering this, but I know I wouldn't get my money's worth.

No they do not as of mid March. That was the original plan but no doubt got lots of flack for the obvious reasons and justly so. I DID hear on our last cruise there was a 20" "timer" on drink orders. I read the sign hawking the program that was on display and think I actually read that too but could be mistaken. Why didn't they have this wonderful program in the early '90's?????

  8. Are you going to the Jaguar Rescue Center? I think that was the town we were in last month when we went to that place. Six of us hired Jorge Ramirez and did a tour with him. You will have to get some kind of cab/van transportation as its a ways out from Limon, prob a good 45" at least. He's on Trip Advisor plus I did a review on the Puerto Limon thread. He's great. Email him.

  9. Honestly...I really don't appreciate ANYONE or ANY ESTABLISHMENT telling me what I have to tip. I avoid as often as possible those who have adopted this stance.

I totally agree and the "mandatory" bar tip has always aggravated me. Back in my "serious" drinking days I was exclusively a beer drinker. The fact that all the bartender had to do with me was pull the bottle out of the case and pop the top! That's his J-O-B right?????? It's not like he's having to use any expertise and mix it all up etc like a cocktail!!

  10. The key points here are "open wound" and "pus". Pus is sign of infection and bacteria of some kind. You are not only risking your own health by taking a 2 wk cruise, mostly in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, but you are also exposing countless numbers of other innocent people to the risk of your acknowledged active infection. I've been an RN for longer than I wish to admit and most of my experience has been in surgical and cardiac surgery ICUs and can't imagine any physician worth his salt to tell a pt to go ahead on a trip out of the country for an extended period of time with a draining open wound of any kind. I personally would cancel, file my insurance and rebook. You say you "recently" had this thing drained therefore wouldn't be considered pre-existing unless you provided the ins people with a known date of occurrence. A good answer is always "unknown" then the date of occurrence is the date you first sought medical attention which should be the day it was addressed by the surgeon who did the would care. And as for the ship Dr visits.....not only will it be extremely costly, they take one look @ pus coming out of an open wound and are likely to quarantine you for the duration.

  11. I signed up for AD in Jan on CB and on PC cruise which we returned from 10 days ago. Suffice to say I won't do it again. Both times I was told conflicting stories about how to get a table "reserved". Initially I was told by dine line that you had to call THAT morning and request a table for "x" and if you were willing to share (which we always were, just not a huge table filled with nothing but senior citizens nor kids). Then discovered on our PC cruise that someone had reserved a table for 10 for the entire cruise @ the same time everyday. It was either be there @ the door when they opened or wait until later, like after 8-8:30. If you didn't do that it was a cattle call and we just ended up in HC.

  12. They are not on EVERY deck but most and are aft. Generally in the 722 cabin number area. You can see on a deck map. There are coin changers in each. They dispense USA quarters. Each wash load $2.00/dry $2.00 as of week ago on Coral. I brought 4 of those pod detergent things. I have also measured a load of dry soap out and put in zipper bags in the past. This was pre-pod era! I am in the process of finishing up my pods @ home thinking they shouldn't lay around 3yrs and they will be that old this summer when I first purchased the bag.

  13. Packing cubes are one of the best inventions ever!! Hope they make one half the size of the smallest one cause I'd like to put camera cords/chargers etc in there and be able to see that's what's in it!

I also think one of the most idiotic and unsafe things the airlines has done is the payment for checking bags. I personally think the fact you bought and paid for passage gives you a RIGHT to check one bag--within their poundage and specs of course like now. Also think it should be legislated since that seems the only way in the USA to get some wrongs righted. It is a safety issue for sure. Also can't believe the American public has tolerated this miscarriage. Lots of regular fliers I.e. business passengers, have some perks that gets them freebies and they don't pay a tidy sum to check their luggage. It's geared @ gouging the casual traveler and vacationer and families which covers most of us! :(

  14. We were there Aug 2012 and once we left Seattle for AK I had "issues" unless we were @ Princess Lodges. I have Verizon coverage and found out later you had to "reset to the towers" in the area. It involved a star or pound key and 3-digits as I recall but can't find info now--of course! :(. My friend has AT&T and no issues in cities. Bottom line.....ck with your provider b4 u leave!!

  15. If we both liked the offerings I'm sure it was a good deal for the money but lots of it neither of us liked and looked like you were stuck with a specific pot of stuff. As for crawfish, I'm from TX and they're all the rage here right now--in season I think--I can't stand them on the table, let alone eat them! I just don't want my dinner staring @ me and seeing their antennae moving......and I swear they do!! :). I don't eat lobster either, partly for the same reason!

  16. We did AK cruise tour Aug 2012 and have booked another for Aug 2015 (prob the best cruise I have ever done with Canada/NE coming next!). As for starboard vs port it's a personal preference as prev stated since boat does a 360 in the Glacier Bay areas etc but we spent most of that day up top either adding clothes or taking layers off (it actually got warmer the farther we got into Glacier area due to radiant heat from the ice or that was my reasoning anyway). My one key point and reason for posting is to research ports and excursions. There are many ways to save $$ and still have a wonderful experience. Ship tours are pricier and more crowded. We rented a jeep in Skagway and went up to the Yukon. Jeep ran us about $200 or less for the day and we could stop where/when we wanted. A flight tour was not to be missed in Ketchikan and I booked with a wonderful family run company and saved money and had a great time. There were 5 of us plus pilot and I sat in front with him (that was a real hurdle for me cause I had never been on a plane that size and was a little leery of that whole adventure!!). I would do it again in a heart beat tho with the same people. Juneau is whale watching area. Harv and Marv Co had rave reviews and we went with them and they were wonderful! The Capt was a woman prob my age or close (50+) and she was great. Again there were FIVE of us plus her on the boat. The big huge boats out there were a joke. Crammed full of people, all jockeying for position to see things. She took us around the back side of a small island I guess you'd call it and there were seals EVERYWHERE! In the water, on the banks, playing, romping, fighting etc. she said it's called a "haul out" because they haul themselves out of the water. Duh--easy to remember that one! I even took a short video of them and you can hear the changes in their voices--we were that close. Just remembered.....her name was Capt Jill.

PAM--this part is for you. We are going back as I said but want to see some other things on the land portion. I do NOT however want to go back to Fairbanks tho for anything. We currently have a cruise tour booked late August on the Star I believe it is (3 trips on Coral inc last week to PC again and I need a break from her). We both really enjoyed Denali and that lodge property and want to go back there. Liked the lodge @ Talkeetna too but nothing to do there but trails with a guide and its a LONG bus ride into Talkeetna and not really much there either. I'm wondering if we should just put our own land portion together and board in Whittier for SB Glacier cruise. Thoughts?????

  17. Just off Coral Princess and they had some GP stuff. Didn't pay particular attention to details but prices higher than what I've observed on online sites and even BB as someone else said. Ships prices are not cheap, don't care what they say. I bought a Tag Heuer watch 3 yrs ago and saved a little plus the tax. Same watch NOW is cheaper @ Costco by $300!

  18. If you are on Caribbean Princess you will be @ Puerta Maya pier. Nice shopping area with lots of variety right as you leave immediate terminal area.
