  1. Thanks for the succinct answers to my question and also the added input of the walking segment. All I can say about CA liquor laws is that you guys rock! Texas is much more restricted but our laws have lots of Baptist influence! And I'm not bashing baptists in any way, just a historical fact! [emoji13]

  2. We are arriving SFO three weeks from tonite around 9:30 CA time and staying @ hotel near airport. Plan is to take shuttle back to SFO next morning then catch Bart and head to Embarcadarro station, get off and walk to pier. Time frame here around 10-11am. Will there be a place open that time of day to purchase our token two bottles of wine to take aboard the ship?

  3. There are pharmacies all over in fact one right on that main drag going into central area of town across from water. But I think you could obtain that in any WalMart or similar pharmacy in USA very cheaply as its generic. An prescription is needed of course.

  4. If you aren't immediately involved, why should it matter?

She asked the same question I'm sure many had. Just idol curiosity having been on many ships. It's the same reason folks gawk @ an accident. Curiosity. Cut her a break. I'm traumatized as a loyal PCL cruiser who thinks an AK cruise is the best of the best and I'm just a bystander thousands of miles away reading about it. I wouldn't be one bit surprised if it happened on certain OTHER lines and on certain routes but on MY chosen line, in MY fave route is beyond comprehension.

    Condolences to her family.

  5. My brother and his wife did this excursion last April on the Ruby Princess. We were on the cruise as well.

He had been dreading it for the longest time and wondered why his wife would book such a thing, we had many conversations about it. I told him all of the reviews I read about it were great. He said he was NOT riding any camels. Period!

Well, he went on the excursion and while meeting up for drinks in the Wheelhouse bar that evening, he said it was the best thing ever! It was the highlight of the cruise for him.

If I'm not mistaken there was about twelve people (camels) total and the actual camel ride was about 30 minutes. He said would do it again in a heartbeat. It was funny because he didn't stop talking about it after he got back.

They bought the photos and the DVD they give you, I don't remember the price but could find out.

This is funny because I remember my late Daddy having the same impression when he went TDY to Egypt in the late 1950's while we were stationed in Germany. He wasn't ever going to get on a camel, why the hell would you want to do that, they stink, they spit etc etc. well at some point he had to go on some kind of military inspection and the only way to get there was on camels! He had a blast and also bought 3 authentic camel saddles and drug them home to my mother and I! They were not quite the decor my Mother preferred but they were excellent foot stools. Wish I had them now.

  6. My younger daughter now 27 was 19 or 20 when we took a western Caribe cruise out of Galveston on Rccl. We stopped in Cozumel and she was quite impressed with herself that she could legally buy beer! I have a picture of her in some place we went with her first legal beer!

  7. Here is my advice, but we were in the medical field...always carry things for minor ailments, i.e. sinus infection, Mucinex D, some antibiotics in case you have that kind of an infection...or as someone said, make sure your insurance will cover it. We don't go to the ships doctor...might go if it was very serious, but not just under the weather. Too many things you can do for that.

Totally agree and I do the same when my friend and I cruise. I'm an ICU RN with over 40 yrs practice so I think outside the box a little and honestly would have to be pretty near dead to go to a ship Dr or a stateside ER even. That's part of the problem tho with healthcare in the USA tho. Folks have this "fix me right now mentality", want antibiotics for every little thing and a narcotic for each and every tiny twinge they experience.

I have a eBag container devoted to any minor issue that could crop up....starting with anti-diarrheal mess! [emoji13]

  8. Anyone had any luck with using Hotwire in NYC? We're going on NE/Canada cruise first Sat in Oct and while I'm content with flying in that morning, my DD would like to see some of the Big Apple. Advice I've been given is Wallstreet area due to proximity to 911 memorial and free ferry to Staten Island, both on the to do list. We will be flying into LGA most likely as we fly Southwest from Dallas.

    Thanks for input!

  9. I am flying in most likely a day early with my DD age 27, for a PCL cruise departing 10/7 from Red Hook. I don't want to drop $300 on a room that basically is a shower or two and a place to sleep the nite b4 the cruise. Will most likely fly into LGA as we fly SWA but EWR is also a possibility if flight times and costs are attractive.

Open to all suggestions. Reasonable suggestions that is! [emoji13]

  10. What's your hotel budget? Bed configuration?

It's my adult daughter and myself. We don't have any issues sleeping together as long as it's a king. She's too much of a bed hog in anything smaller. I'd like to get out for under $200 but figure that's prob unrealistic. It's only overbite, sleep, shower and get ready for ship in morning.

Just looked @ Roosevelt and QUEEN for 2 people with all their added taxes etc was over $300 and I think that's insane.

  11. Then you haven't been paying attention to what's happening at LGA. It's a total nightmare.

    Southwest does fly to EWR.

I have no idea what's happening @ LG anymore than you prob know what goes on @ Dallas Love Field. That's why I'm posting on this forum. I wish PCL had the good sense to go out of Boston but alas that's another cruise line and I'm a loyal Princess offender. [emoji13]
