Without wishing to stir the pot too much, as we have  a few QE and QV 2s under our belt and have the top two booked for future cruises, I  have to admit Tilly, we have yet to book a 2 for anywhere  near the price you quoted, assuming for a week,, broken down to pppn,  You have been very lucky at the point of booking and I am quite envious. 🙂 It shows, good prices are to be had.

I know some Med cruises and Canary Island trips are cheaper, but Windsurfer boy has a point on many itineraries.

I think we will all have to agree to disagree and look out for the ''bargains'' if the itineraries suit.🙂

Yes, Victoria these are Mediterranean fly cruises, all one week duration, and i am comparing them to lux lines med fly cruises, so it is like for like.

we are fortunate to have an excellent agent, and i would say will never get the £5k price for two ever again.!

Just looked at a few Cunard one week cruises, can't find any q1s at £5k per person most are over 6 to 7k  , which would be £12 to14k for a week for 2 in cabin not 5k . If you can get me a q1 cabin for 5k please accept the job as my travel agent  anytime..

There really is no need for snarky comments, i hate to tell you but I can find plenty of q1/2 cabins for £5-5600 as i quoted, for sept this year. Clearly you are not looking in the right places!! Obviously, my prices are ALL per person, it would be pretty ridiculous not quoting like for like now wouldn’t it? I have never had an agent quote anything but a fare per person. As for a q1 fare for £2500 ppn i have had one of those too!!

  3. The laundry bag is a great perk and a bargain at $50 if you don’t have it as a perk. Always perfectly returned and grat fun seeing how much you can fit in to the bag, amazing capacity. Life is too short and SB cruises and your time far too expensive to be wasting time in the laundry! Enjoy.

To be fair, I would imagine QG would appeal ''to the masses'' but it's up to ndividuals how they spend their hard earned cash.

We could book whatever we wanted on other cruise lines, but at the moment,  love the product we buy on Cunard. Other folk could book what we do but prefer not to. Horses for courses and all that.

Luckily, we're all different and also how lucky we are we can debate this subject on a book it or leave it basis.

    I won't say more.

Why I made the  “masses” comment is because I dont think that most people want the formality, and also i think most people do not place alot of importance on fine food and large accommodations. This can be evidenced by many of those claiming they can find “ cheaper” on this thread. I believe that we all have different standards, priorities and this is the reason why so many different options are available to us all. I for one would never travel on P&O, but some people love it. Most would find spending £15k on a week long cruise for two incomprehensible, neither is wrong. Like you say Victoria horses for courses.

  5. Windsurf, ok, i looked at a random sept QG 7 day cruise in Q1 which was £5600, if i were to go on SB cruise in a verandah cabin for a week, i would on some med sailings be looking at £4500-5000 for a week. I usually take a penthouse which costs us £14k, but a full suite would be considerably more than that. Obviously, the longer the cruise the cheaper it gets, but i am just basing this on a week in the med.

majortom, as for the food, yes it is as good but you dont get to have what you want, only what is on the menu generally, and like i say you would be in a very mediocre cabin compared to a q1 for the same money.

Clearly Cunard does not suit, as I have said previously, QG isn’t meant to appeal to the masses.

  6. I too would be interested.
For example, You could just about get a special deal for a week in the med in aug/sept on a lux line in a very ordinary small, balcony room for the price of a Q1/2 similar itinerary and price. So if space, off piste QG food and formality is your thing, then where else can you get that for the price? A large suite on a lux line is going to cost upwards of £15k each. Not £5k as per Cunard. Huge difference.

  7. However, viking is an inferior product to QG in terms of food offerings. No off piste dining or caviar included on viking. Viking is not good value for us, maybe better for you. I like to dress up, viking is casual, i wasnt overly impressed with the food, and there are a limited number of sizeable premium suites. Plus, excursions are not my thing. Everyone is different, and lets face it, Queens grill is not meant to appeal to the masses.

  8. Thanks for your replies, i last went in 2018, and in 2017, QV had just had the new Q1 suites, which we had, so has it changed since then? Maybe.

They may have been round tables, but had some kind of fitted seating i am sure in a semi circular shape, which faced our window seat, which was sidewards on to the glass, if that helps. And we were right innthe middle of the room.

  9. Is anyone able to assist please?

Having previously only sailed in Q1 and had a window table, I am unable to deal with this query my friend has.
Does anyone know the table numbers of what I can only describe as the forward facing banquette seating which faces the window and those sat directly in the window would be?
    Thanks

  10. Everyone has a different opinion, and who cares what Berlitz thinks? I really disliked Crystal, apart from the Nobu restaurant and dislike SS even more. I am one of those sailors that is on the younger end of the SB demographic and I have been sailing SB for 20 yrs now and whilst standards have ebbed and flowed for the last couple of years have found SB to be really improved in the last few months. Each to his own, I prefer to judge from my own experiences, not from a very easily distorted magazine award.

  11. We travelled on Ody in August and had the new water bottles in cabin, which I was ok with.... until I noticed a rather pungent and unpleasant odour, ie unwashed/bacterial smell pervaded from one of the bottles. I found this most offputtting and promptly removed said bottle for our use. I too drink alot of water and am not impressed by the taste, I was very concerned with the smell as too how effective the cleaning of these bottles was. Really not sure this particular system is going to work out.

  12. Now we always take penthouse suite or above, but have sailed in verandas many times, and I would again in a heartbeat. I can assure you there is no more special attention or "perks" rather than those aforementioned.

If you are looking for some attention or bragging rights than may I suggest Seabourn isnt going to be the place you get your kicks, as passengers don't roll like that! The beauty of SB is very much in the fact that nobody feels the need to tell people where they are staying, hence the intense dislike by many, myself included, of the retreat, which is just not the Seabourn way.

It is quite amusing to read the Regent thread on caviar - some of them seem to struggle to find it for 'free' occasionally.  I was very tempted to mention Seabourn's policy, but did not do so for fear of retribution from one of their very avid Regent cheerleaders.

You are right, best to keep schtum!

    Or even more appalling.

Sailing out of port on the Azura, we passed the MV Europa, the DJ decided to play, on full blast, the Dambuster March, encouraging the ensemble HD to sing along with Da - Da Didi Da Da words, accompanied by vigorous flag waving .  Followed by the loud chant of "Two World Wars and one Wold Cup - Do Da Do Da".

This was the final straw, and never again did we sail P&O.

How classy!  I can imagine the passengers on Europa, rated one of the finest luxury ships at sea, being really perturbed by such behaviour! Im imagining their thoughts and eye rolls now.

I disagree, the prices on P&O are no lower than those on some Royal Caribbean, MSC, Princess, or Celebrity (excluding the prices for the new ships, of which Britannia can no longer be classed a new) and I've yet to witness nor read reports of situations such as this on the main news channels.

Must just be those attracted to P&O then! Also a perfect storm, pricing low and due to the marketing, think Ant and Dec show etc, Brittania has been marketed as a party boat, a certain social demographic as I and others have said previously.

  16. Krazy, this is not how ALL lines are changing, just the mainstream ones. There is generally a correlation between how much pax pay for their cruise, the social demographic and this kind of behaviour. There is plenty of alcohol flowing on the true luxury lines but this doesn't happen.
