Good morning (barely) all!  Late to the party today, we had no power for 4 hours this morning and intermittently during the night.  I spent a good part of the morning wondering where my next cup of coffee would come from. 😂  My wonderful DH was just about to go in search for a cup (and he doesn't drink coffee, what a guy!) and the power came back on.  😄  It would have been quite a search, as there were power outages all over the western part of the state.

Since then I hurried to bake the cookies I plan to take today to the grandsons.  It's pretty amazing when you stop and think how much we rely on electricity.  We have a tankless hot water heater so no showers, no heat (and the gas fireplace wouldn't work because the switch relies on electricity).  And most importantly, the coffee maker!!  😉

I'm so  happy to see so many getting their first vaccines!  Also heard about a new one that Johnson & Johnson plans to roll out that would require only 1 jab, not 2.

    Love my generater

Good morning, thanks for the Daily!  I guess I'm a traditionalist (or maybe just a Catholic), because for us Epiphany was always January 6th.  However, I can be swayed . . . LOL

We had the occasion to have our luggage travel without us on our very first Mediterranean cruise - we boarded the Prinsendam in Athens, and our luggage didn't reach us until the 3rd day when we were in Istanbul.  At that time we were cruising newbies and our carry-ons only contained a few magazines, some make-up (for moi), and blow-up pillows.  (*cringe*)   I was never so happy to see my suitcases as when we returned from our shore excursion and discovered them waiting on the pier for us.  I literally went over and kissed each piece!

The menu suggestions - hmm, neither of us appreciates acorn squash, so will pass on that, and although I love lamb, DH isn't a fan, so will have to dive head first into the "ice cave" to see what I can pull out for dinner tonight.  I know there's frozen Russian borscht in there, and it's the kind of day for making buns, so I'm pretty sure that's going to be our dinner this evening.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who needs them, and even for those who don't think they do.  We'll raise our wine glasses tonight to toast all who make this daily thread a great place to visit!  Be well, stay safe, wash your hands and wear your mask.

    Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

The days are getting longer so summer is on its way! (Pay no attention to those folks ice fishing on the lake)

@Seasick Sailor - If we lived closer, our son would probably offer to give Sophie a home.

I am enjoying my new toy. I have "The New Classical FM 96.3" streaming on the Amazon Echo now. That is the Toronto station we always listen to when we are at our cottage. Since we missed the lake for 2020, it is a comfort to hear some familiar voices! Now all I need is to hear a Rona or Canadian Tire commercial or two, eh!

  3. Re luggage.  We traveled with two small mobility scooters. After a T/A we flew to London. One scooter didn’t make it. Apparently the airline captain ordered some luggage removed because of an overload. The scooter was dropped from the fork lift. It showed up at the hotel the next day with completely ruined wiring. Expensive repair.

@Seasick Sailoryou asked if I started with an empty slate and directions when making a Christmas stocking.  Yes!  I purchase a stocking kit from Dimensions and prefer their "Gold Collection" because they are the most beautiful and detailed.  The kits come with the Aida cloth, threads (in many colors), felt for the backing, a needle, wool yarn to make the hanger loop and instructions with an alphabet to use for putting names on it.   The first thing I do is apply masking tape around the edges of the Aida cloth to help prevent raveling.  Then I fold the fabric in half and in half again and place a pin to locate the center of the cloth.  Put the Aida cloth into my wooden stretcher frame, and then locate the very center of the stocking on the instructions page.  They aid you in this by placing an arrow at the top and side of the pattern and where those two lines intersect is where you begin.  Each color and stitch has its own colored icon (like a red heart or a black star) so you just follow the pattern by starting in the middle and working outward.  I agree it's a time consuming and detail oriented project, but I couldn't knit a hat, scarf or sweater to save my life, so I admire those who have that skill.  That's why it's so much fun to get together with other cruisers and work on our projects together on sea days.  I exclaim over their knitting projects and they do the same over mine.  There is a lot of talent out there!

Here are some photos of a kit I've used, and the unfinished stocking I made from it.  You can see it is on a rectangular piece of Aida cloth and it has no name yet.  Since you don't know how long the name will be and how much space it will take you can't finish any cross stitching in that area until the name is completed.

That is probably my favorite stocking I've made.  It has tinier stitches (18 count per inch) so looks more textured.  I really love that snowman!  His scarf was so hard to stitch but easier than knitting one!  One of the hardest things to do was make that gold rope on the toy sack and stitch it on there properly.

Dozens of people stopped each day to comment on that stocking while working on it on a cruise -- even men who rarely stopped to chat with the knitters and stitchers.  The men loved it just as much as the ladies.

Regular or high dos?.  One time a few years ago I was offered a flu shot by my doctor and declined because they only had the regular one, and got it a bit later at the pharmacy.

High dose. Seems it’s in reverse. Here and there.   At least we got it.
