  1. We are boarding the Epic May 22nd and it's our first trip on NCL. A few questions my wife and I have that fellow cruisers can help us out with. We have an aft facing balcony room... 11314 cabin number:

Is the electrical outlet in the cabin a standard plug in outlet as we have in the US?

I have a cpap breathing machine. Will I need a power extension cord based on where the outlet is?

Is there a hair dryer in the bathroom?

We have friends traveling with us in the cabin next to ours. With the partition between cabins, is there a door or part of the partition that can be opened or possibly removed?

    Thanks for the feedback!

my dh also has cpap and ncl has been very helpful with providing extension cord if ours wasn't long enough. we do bring a power strip and cord of our own but depends on how the bed is set up to the outlets. regarding partition it can not be opened while in movement only on port days.

  2.

I don't believe this is true. When I look up prices right on the UK site, the disclosure text is as follows:

*All fares are capacity controlled, subject to availability and can be withdrawn at any time.

Fares include Government Taxes, Port Expenses & Fees and, except where indicated, are per person and based on a double occupancy of a stateroom unless solo traveler (1 passenger is selected). Overall average passenger price may be lower if 3rd to 8th passengers are travelling in the stateroom.

Fares exclude travel insurance, drinks, hotel meals, shore excursions, UK regional flights, personal expenses, cover charge on selected services, discretionary daily service charges payable on board or in advance, auto gratuity charges payable on board & any other item not expressly included in the fare.

I saw that and i am not comfortable with that, so as much as i want the perk of the UBP I will book through my TA, I appreciate everyones input and if you hear of that promo coming back let me know:D

  3. I want to book for jan the getaway and missed the time with the UBP and am waiting to see if it will return next month or so. Has anyone had a little birdy tell them something? As usual our bar bill was large  and we are hoping it will come back around?

  4. OK, we are finally sailing on NCL on the Gem. What should we know about this ship? Any advice, tips, little known areas, secrets about this ship, recommendations?

don't miss kenosis or leo playing, kenosis band is amazing and her tribute to alicia keys and whitney will give you goose bumps. we love them

  5. We will be on the Breakaway beginning May 24. Our last few cruises we parked at the Cruise Terminal since it is so convenient. There is a coupon online for 25% off parking for those on the Gem 7 night cruise. Has anyone tried using the coupon if you were on the Breakaway. I just don't understand why the Gem but not the Breakaway. Thank you!

who knows with them, we had the driver drop us off and told us he would pick us back up even though the paperwork stated differently, he said no we pick you up just call when you get in give us half an hour, so we got back yesterday nope wouldn't pick us up said we will give you $5 back for taxi cause its 2 blocks, well taxi was $40 so we walked the 6 blocks, wasn't impressed gonna use car service from now on

  6. There is no $49 bottle of Moscato, there is a good $29 bottle. Lindemans Bin 90, pretty good stuff.

Actually there was, we were on the epic and went to the jazz brunch at le bistro and had it there, and bought 3 other bottles because it was so good, The may not have it now but they did.

  7. They have been pushing it for several years now, along with almost all other mainstream cruise lines that also charge corkage and/or limit the amount of wine that passengers can carry on board. Some charge up to $25 per bottle. Some only allow one or two bottles, and if you want more, you have to buy it from the ship.

I know NCL has demonstrated some creativity in inventing new charges lately, but their wine corkage policy is not new and it pretty middle-of-the-road compared to other lines.

i have paid corkage fee a few times, but even though its $15 a bottle I know its wine i enjoy. I don't always enjoy the wines on board, I a semi dry person and I found them either too oakey or too sweet and even with the corking fee I'm still paying less for the wine they sell on board. I found a moscato that I enjoy during the jazz brunch, its $49 a bottle, the same one local is $11.99 add the corking fee I'm still spending less. Just food for thought. cheers

  8. Do you really think they are pretty much identical? The Gem looks like it has more in the photos. It also looks bigger. I know the Dawn doesn't have the rock wall, bowling alley and the slide. I'm not sure what the differences are in pool and sports area. In the photos the Gem looks like it's better? In the reviews for the Gem people talk about the Great outdoors and Spinnaker lounge being really special. Is the Dawn as nice?

gems rock wall is being refurbished and not being used until it comes out of drydock. we are sailing gem 5/2 and can't use wall either but there is lots to do either way to keep busy and to have fun

  9. On the last afternoon at sea there was a crew talent show in the theatre. This was fun to watch. At the end of the show the Cruise Director's staff performed Fountains. If you have never seen Fountains performed live you simply must make it a priority to be there. This is a performance, like that of the Magician, that is best seen from the center of the front row. Remember, these things are always best the very first time you see it, so do yourself a favor and do not ask anyone about the show beforehand, other than to confirm the time of its performance.

Fountains is a must and we see it everytime:D

  10. No, the OP was asking who the current CD is for their upcoming trip. It was just mentioned that they loved whoever the CD was on their previous Gem cruise 2 yrs ago. Therefore, that post, noting the CD from a month ago who could have possible still been onboard, was just fine.

It's really not polite, nor is it necessary, to make derogatory comments like that.

Happy Cruising [emoji4] (because that's what the board is all about!)

thank you all, yes I was on the gem 2013 and had sinan and was asking the current CD out of curiousity. thank you all for the replys, granted i will have a blast no matter what but I have to say Sinan set the bar very high last sailing.

  11. the spirit was the first ship i sailed on and i loved it, some ships have better lay outs but who cares with all the food available a little walking does me good. the way i see it if you don't like the food order something else, the staff wants to please you and will bring you things until your happy that is unless your one of those people you can never make happy :p and being on a ship is always better than being at home

  12. anyone who just got off the gem who is the cruise director as of april. I know dan dan is on vacation and just got off the ship and was wondering who is aboard now. I never had dan dan, but boy we loved sinan when we had him, so sorry hes gone he was a blast

  13. once we board we head to MDR for a nice lunch and then go up to the pool area and have a dirty banana and dance then we always rush to see lady liberty when we sail out of NYC. we don't care if it's cold or raining we are sailing to warm weather and blue water. I also unpack immediately and leave my highlighter out to mark on dailys what are must do's. I will not say anything to my DH about wearing sports gear, he's a die hard browns fan who hates the steelers and personally i could care less. I'm on vacation and the outside world does not matter to me.
