  1. I️ said that because in addition to this thread, I’m on every other one about upgrades with a spread sheet, and 1500 doesn’t match a bid for the category you referenced in that range. You also wrote many posts about upgrading to a balcony or min suite for same cruise for a few hundred dollars. Period, done with this, peace!

  2. I know from first hand knowledge NCL did not disclose a death on the ship I was on. It was a Code Oscar/Code Alpha later to be told all passengers were accounted for. The passenger jumped and landed directly in front of my friend. The passenger never hit the water, he landed 8 stories below. All im saying is NCL will and can say what is needed at times like this.

So all persons were accounted for even the one who fell on the deck below.

To me that is protocol to make sure no one went overboard into the ocean. And to make sure everyone is accounted for on the ship.

I feel sorry for the person and their family and people that witnessed the fall, but to say NCL lies is way off base in regards to emergencies and deaths.

  3. They said there was a medical emergency on a ship I was on also. No medical emergency. It was a jumper/suicide yet they told all passengers another story. I'm just saying just because Norwegian comes in to follow up, it doesn't clarify what really happened. They want good PR, bottom line.

Doubt they lied to passengers. All has to be documented through the gov’t and there would be a death report listed.

Other medical emergencies are private in nature and should be respected in such a way.

To use rumors from other passengers and maybe someone in the crew that has no authority to speak of the type of emergency is not a reliable source.

Kind of like CNN editing a video of Trump feeding fish in Japan and not provide the whole story/video/picture. Get facts first before spreading rumors.

  4. Thank you for info. People here need to hear the "real time" info. I am sure they will cut and paste T&Cs and shoot down, but nice to hear REAL EXPERIENCES.. I guess fair warning to all if you need medical assistance.

Thank you for sharing. Hope it is an eye opening to all. Check your Medical Policy. No way should people get raped cuz they have fallen ill on cruise.

Can't wait for cheerleaders who are elite to chime in

Not about cheerleaders. Been in the ships dr and know it’s expensive just like any ER is. Not a way you want to spend your money on a cruise. Travel medical insurance would pay all or a majority of the costs depending on the severity of the issue.

Other issues the OP has if legit should be resolved no matter what business it is.

  5. Won’t be back??? like a 2 year old throwing a temper tantrum for attention. But,,, no one cares.

If you want a specific room class, then book it.

Personally, I would prefer if they gave priority to frequent cruises over the temper tantrum group that have a high probability of not cruising again.

They will be back. They just like to throw a 5 year old temper tantrum.

Book the cabin you want and don’t rely on upgrades. If you don’t get the upgrade at least you get the room you actually likes when you booked.

I wouldn’t gamble on an upgrade when I originally booked. If I bid and get an upgrade I will be happy but otherwise I will still be happy with my original choice.

  6. To abe3. Numpty! People are entitled to be unhappy with changes that dramatically change their dream holiday. NCL are profiting on changed itineraries which reduce port stops and failing to compensate customers. I think people should tell them exactly how they feel!

It’s not a charity tour. They are a business and they are supposed to make money

They don’t need to compensate but I do think they have done a great job considering the circumstances that many cruise lines are dealing with securing ports that were not hit by the hurricanes.

Also sure they are taking a hit by people cancelling before final payment on the changes. But they will make it up with others booking and lowering the prices to get people to book the cancelled cruises

  7. The terrible hurricanes were devastating. We all have heartfelt sympathy for the many victims. Loss of life, loss of property and loss of income bring a heavy toll on people.

HOWEVER. NCL were very quick to change the itinerary of many long booked cruises. More interesting......itineraries were altered for cruises not scheduled until March 2018.

For example the Jade 23rd March 2018 cruise has been so changed as to be unrecognisable.

I chose this cruise many months ago because of the itinerary. I did not chose to go to Grand Cayman or Bonaire, or Aruba. I have been before.

I now read that a number of ports on the original itinerary are "open" for business.

Will NCL revert to those islands now "open"? they certainly deserve the business, and faithful clients deserve to go where they wer promised now that that seems to be possible.

NCL declared "force majeure" and so avoided the cancellation possible if "significant change" is necessary to a cruise itinerary.

I wonder if anyone knows of cruises, NCL or others, which have been altered and then as ports become "open" reverted to the original which no doubt many people deliberately chose when booking.

I recognise so many of the islands have been through a very bad time, however, if they are "open" lets go and visit them again.

    What do others feel.

best wishes to all cruisers and islanders.

    Deeko

You are not close to final payment. You should probably cancel because you won’t be happy.

  8. Hard to differentiate between stomach bug and food poisoning.

Good luck with trying to get compensation OP. Not sure you will succeed with it. I have had the same issue before but not taken off the boat but never once asked for any compensation. Throwing up continuously is never fun except right after when it feels much better until you have to do it again.

  9. It’s life boat capacity. OP just likes to complain and cause a ruckus.

Had the same thing happen to me year ago. Tried to add a 4th person to a cabin but could not because of the life boat capacity. If the 4th person in that cabin could make up their mind and not so close to our cruise we would of had no problem adding.

Next time I would book the 4th person and only thing you lose if they don’t go is taxes but I think they refund them if you don’t show. At least you will still have a spot just in case.

  10. YIn the law of every state of the US what NCL is doing would likely be illegal. It doesn't matter if the contract says they can change the itinerary " for any reason" they can't sell an intenerary they know isn't going to go. They can't have their agents tell you they don't know if there's going to be an itinerary change when they have already made the decision. They can't deliberately wait to tell you of a change right when cacellation rules change ( and the fact that this was the timing would be evidence they did it deliberately)The issue though is that it's not normal US state law that applies to cruise ships sailing under international flags in international waters. There is complicated maritime and treaty law that applies. That law protects the cruise companies. What they do " feels" wrong to many because no US based company could get away with the stuff they do ( another example is still selling spa passes on a ship where they know the spa will be closed) But if you want most cruises you have to live with it and get the best protection/ insurance you can. There really are no other options.

NCL didn’t do it deliberately. They can change any port without any reason. This also is a very unusual circumstance that most other cruise lines are dealing with because of the devastation of the islands.

NCL has done a great job considering the circumstances with communication and change of ports but of course will not make everyone happy. There will always be people out there just like yourself that they will never please even if they give you a free cruise.

  11. Hate to be te barer of good news but your cancellation period was not 60 days, but it was 90.

Good luck prevailing on a CC dispute. If everyone who didn't like an itinerary change disputed a charge for a reason like that then both the CC company and the cruise lines would go out of business.

Yep exactly right. I feel for the OP about their situation but there are ways around making the cruise a great cruise.

  12. Agreed. My fiancee's friend had spent her teenage years living in Jamaica and thought she could tell whether someone was an honest person looking to make a buck or a scammer. Wrong.

The only port we've been to where I might take a tour or somesuch without any research is Grand Cayman. Maybe. Anyplace else, I'd either research the hell out of it or just do a cruise line-sponsored tour.

Most of the ports in the Caribbean and the western routes like Belize and Roatan have very poor and high crime areas and if you don’t know what you are doing you could get into some trouble.

Research is the key but there are islands like Grand Cayman, St Thomas, Bermuda, and Cozumel that I would feel very safe going at it alone. Jamaica I think is fairly safe but that is a port I would book through a reputable company.

  13. A friend of my fiancee had a very bad experience in Jamaica. She (a native Jamaican who'd lived a couple of decades in the US) and her new husband went on shore during their honeymoon cruise and, with no research, let some guy talk them into giving them a tour of the island. So he drives them 50 miles or so into the interior, pulls out a gun and says "A return trip is $400 cash. Otherwise, you can get out now and walk back." Fortunately, they had the $400 on them and were returned safely to dockside.

This had the side effect of making my fiancee permanently swear off any shore excursions not sponsored by the cruise line.

Not good but at least no one was hurt. This can happen anywhere though. Just have to be cautious and book excursions from reputable companies or through the cruise lines.

If I was afraid of a certain port I would either book through the cruise line or just stay on the ship. No way I would just go on shore and pick a excursions from a random person in port without any research.
