  1. We must have the same one!! I stopped calling ours weeks ago - he will never return a call, and will take more than a week to respond to an email, but only after sending it twice. By the time he does respond, I have additional questions, which will start the cycle all over again. I know we're not his only customers, but we have 12 cabins in our group, with 25 fares. Really bad customer service - I'm more disappointed and frustrated by the day.

Vicki and mnh: Do you have to speak to the same agent each time you call NCL? Can't you just switch agents?

  2. I have a mid-ship mini suite booked and have always wanted to try an aft balcony, so when I noticed the huge price drop on aft balconies (it comes to less than what I paid), I called and asked to be changed to an aft balcony. My TA called NCL and they said that since an aft balcony category B1 is a lower pricepoint than a midship mini suite (MB), I can't DOWNGRADE!! I can't imagine why not! I told him I didn't care that it would cost less than what I paid, I would prefer an aft balcony. They still wouldn't do it.

I'm not looking for a refund or even OBC, I just wanted an aft balcony, and I can't imagine why they think this category is a downgrade from a mini-suite where the only difference is the size of the bathroom!

    OK, rant over...

  3. Anyone else have any?

You know what DOtD and OBC mean.

You enter your bedroom at night and look for the towel animal.

You are reading Cruise Critic, and your cruise isn't for months, or you don't even have one booked (yet!)

  4. one comment about the "stack lots" that greatam mentions. Those are pretty much exclusively outdoor lots that have these systems. I've parked in about 50 different indoor garages in NYC and none of them have stack systems. My advice to avoid those is to do a Google Street View of potential parking locations to see if they are garages or lots.

And FWIW my 4Runner never incurred oversized charges

That's why I love the Best Parking app, it tells you whether it's an outdoor or indoor lot, includes all taxes, and tells you the extra fees (SUV, etc).

  5. Thanks for all the info, but the savings would be substantial, about $100, and I wouldn't need a taxi because it's only a few blocks from the pier. I just wanted to know if anyone had any bad experiences at that lot.

  6. Hello,

Has anyone had any experience parking at MTP 57 parking garage on 57th st in NYC while on a cruise? Through the Best Parking app, I found that it is $175 (including tax) for 7 days, and is only 8 blocks from the pier. I just wanted to know if anyone had any experience parking here, and if it was good or bad.

    Thanks!

  7. Oasis debuted in the fall of 2009. So technically it is 5 years old this year. Drydock is performed every 5 years on Royal Caribbean vessels for general maintenance below the water line and replacement of carpets, and interior furnishings inside the ship. During this time, shows can change and depending on the length of the drydock, some venues may change or be remodeled as well.

Typically Royal Caribbean shows have a life onboard of 5 to 7 years. A lot goes into designing and producing a musical production and so it needs to be performed for several years. A show typically only changes during a drydock event because of the amount of staging, lighting, etc needed to put on the show.

Thanks for the info, I thought it was longer, but it makes sense.

  8. Cats will be loaded on during drydock in October.

Thanks! I've been on Oasis once, it's a beautiful ship, lots to do...but why is it going into dry dock? It's a new ship. Is it just to make the show changes?

  9. A guy showed up to the lifeboat drill extremely drunk, drink in hand and smoking a cigarette. When one of the officers told him to get rid of the cigarette ~ he tried to throw the lit cigarette overboard...into a lifeboat. He then tried to hit on me and asked me if I wanted to blow his whistle. Ummmm....NO!

Ewwwww!! What a horrible start to your cruise! I hope it didn't ruin it for you, or that you didn't keep seeing him all over the place.

  10. BTW, here's a tip for those who don't like smoke drifting onto their balconies from neighbors. If you can, book the most forward balcony cabin, that way there is no one upwind of you. I have done this in the past and it works out well.

  11. My daughter calls us "Balcony Snobs"! It's true, once you've cruised with a balcony, you never go back.

However, I'm not really looking forward to our upcoming cruise's balcony, its one of NCL Breakaway's notoriously TINY balconies. I've been watching the price drops so I can possibly upgrade to an Aft Balcony, which I have never experienced.

Still waiting for the answer to the 'string' question....:o

  13. On embarkation day on the March 16 sailing of the Breakaway, Moderno had a mini-buffet for lunch. There was a big salad bar and main dishes including chicken bourbon, meat patties, a pasta dish, and a couple of others that I don't remember - most likely a fish dish and a vegetarian dish. There were potatoes and vegetables and bread and several desserts. I was hoping that it would be a mini-version of what Moderno offered for dinner at an extra price, but it was very good.

Was there a charge for this lunch, because Moderno is an extra-fee restaurant?

    Thanks!

  14. FYI: Bring cash to Bermuda or get money out at the Casino on board. Many places do not take cards(including the two places at dockyard which sell the transit passes) and ATMs are somewhat difficult to locate and dispense Bermudan dollars.

Are there any ATMs at the Dockyard? I would like to get some Bermudan money to spend on the island, and for the bus/ferry passes.

    Thanks!

  15. I just checked, and all the rates are tax included, and the garage is an 8 min walk from the pier. So that's a $110 savings. I'm not rich, so it makes it worthwhile. Thanks for all the help!!

  16. Do those prices included the 18 3/8% NYC Parking Tax for Non-Manhattan Residents?

    That would be $30+ more.

No, I didn't take that into consideration...I'll have to see what the total with tax is for the pier parking.
