1. June 4, 1981 Pricing on the SS NORWAY.

    Inside: $810 per person

    outside $970 per person

(There were no balconies back then)

plus port taxes. And for the guy who posts that I am making up these prices, I am copying them directly from the NCL Brochure from 1981.

So, 32 years ago, the cost of a 7 day cruise was approx. $310 per person lower than many Carnival cruises today. Just keep that in mind the next time you read a thread about how high prices have gone.

A quick check shows that, with inflation, an item that cost $1 USD in 1984 would cost $1.98 in 2006. The dates you are bringing up are even further apart than that.

Basically, Inside on Norway would have been around $2,000 USD today.

  2.
After 15 you cannot buy another drink period. There has been people who say they were able to purchase a drink prior to 15. Carnival has stated on their forums that you could purchase a drink for someone else prior to your 15 but not for yourself. I think it depends on you ship and bar tender, however it appears that the 15 limit is programmed into the system and will not allow any additional drinks. If you do not purchase the cheers program, there is no limit
You are about 58% incorrect.
  3. I agree with the above poster. 4 adults in a room is excessive. 4 adults plus a child is setting the ground work for a new TV show: "Murder on the high seas."

Have you checked to see the price difference between two rooms and cramming everyone into one room? It shouldn't be much at all and even if it was it would be well worth it.

  4. Yes, and I was surprised by that, which I why I posted the follow-up to specifically ask about the steakhouse.

ETA: A quick forum search indicates there is no steakhouse on the Inspiration... guess that explains why I never saw one!

Were you surprised by that or something? A quick search would have confirmed that the poster was correct.

  5. I'm booked on another Carnival cruise after a couple of years away... seem to remember that the time we had to be back on board was always an hour earlier than published online when we booked the cruise. For example.. the itinerary states we are to be in Belize from 9-5. Is it safe to assume that we will have to be back on board at 4:00 (or 3:00 Belize time)? This makes a big difference when booking private tours outside of Carnival!!

    Thanks!

What makes a bigger difference than that is when you are going (due to DST) and where you are sailing from.

  6. Interesting. The only reason I asked is because I know I have read threads where people have HIT the 15 drink limit, and were not able to buy anymore after that. So I would have guessed that it somehow DOES count.:confused::confused:

Early on in the program some of the staff was unclear on the rules and would not serve anybody after 15 drinks. Now most people are reporting that once they have hit their 15 drink limit they are able to purchase more drinks on their S&S card as long as they don't appear intoxicated.

  7. Hmmm. Let me try this again.

The steakhouse (or any fine dining establishment) is not about quantity but rather quality. You order a 8 oz filet for $50 because it is far superior than a 24 oz sirloin for $17 at Chilis. You go for the experience, even if you only eat half of every course.

  8. We were on the Triumph Nov 4th sailing and our trip was a little bumpy as well. Friday Night shows were cancelled. I seem to recall the Captain saying we had 8ft swells.

That is a good size, IMHO. On my upcoming Magic cruise 12/01 I hope we can get that action on one of the sea days.

  9. Oh that would have been awesome!

We had a storm and rough sea on the way back to Galv from Coz one day and night some years ago. People were hiding in their staterooms, bars were closed, puke was flying. I loved it...but it didn't help that it was pretty rough after Cozumel and I was thoroughly tanked. I think the alcohol induced spinning helped offset the fact that the floor was moving below me. Good times, but it certainly was not 12-15 foot waves.

  10. here you go.

Interesting - the lists I have seen recently had a completely different selection of Cabs, or at least partially different. $6.25/glass for Barefoot? No way. A bottle of that junk is ~$5 in Texas.

  11. I reached out to John Heald via his Facebook page to inquire about this, as it was a surprise to hear from some CruiseCritic members that Carnival was still offering high-speed unlimited Internet service on a few ships.

Here's what John had to say:

Where he said "we still on for this program" I believe he meant "we still offer this program".

So, it sounds like changes are coming around the beginning of December. If I haven't heard any more details from Carnival or CruiseCritic about these changes by mid-December, I'll make a point to ask John about it again.

It's been mentioned a bunch lately, here and on JH's blog I believe.

  12. Well you do have to remember that you are trying to have a two way satellite communication with a satellite 22,236 miles above your head from a moving ship. In addition, the bandwidth required to support the number of folks on a ship is fairly substantial. With staff and crew you could easily have 4,000 potential clients - even if 5% of those purchased WiFi, that is 200 people....lets say at peek time 50 (25%) are on at one time (and 5 are trying to Skype)- that is a LOT of bandwidth to support over that type of connection.

RCCL has been able to figure it out.
