  1. I think it may just be a gap in the balconies, revealing the inside edges of the balcony floors. You can see other similar gaps further to the right.

I agree. I thought the same at first when I saw the pic, but it looks like the crane is blocking most of the part in question. And if you look at all the rest of the balconies, they all have some sort of covering on them. Too early to have it "match" the rendering.

  2. Bermuda will get the dredging done in the North channel. The loss of revenue will be too great for them not to. Think about this...the article states that the concern is the 8.5m (27.8 feet) draft in high winds. Draft is the depth of the hull below the waterline which is a direct indication of the depth needed to safely pass a given point. Draft of the Breakaway, which currently sails to Bermuda and was never raised to be an issue, is 8.3 m or 27.3 feet. So we are talking half a foot....yes 6 inches difference. I'm not sure of the actual square footage they are looking at as being a problem in the channel, but we are not talking about removing 3 or 4 feet across the entire length. Yes its a project, but yes it will get done. Granted they are likely talking about doing it to a greater depth than just 6 inches to alleviate having to pay for it an additional time as ships continue to grow, but I just can't fathom that it's not completed in time for May 2015. But it does make you wonder how tight those clearances are under a ship in the channels of some of these islands! 6 inches....yikes!

  3. If you sneezed 3 times or ran to the bathroom...you would have missed the Quantum segment - it was very fast. It included a few short clips of Quantum, Rachel with a hardhat at the construction facility (with a short glimpse at the current state ship itself in the background, and Genevieve talking about the decor on the ship.

Ugh....As a foodie, seeing Rachael tied to this ship has me kind of depressed. You can see the link there already that she'll have some sort of influence on the food. Carnival did it with Guy F and NCL with Geoffrey Z. Wish they would have picked someone that was actually a chef. I'd even take Emeril at this point.

  4. I don't think this is possible, but just want to throw it out there. Would it be feasible or possible that they can lay sections of the Anthem keel, without upper blocks, and then lift the whole thing with a crane up, float Quantum out (or just forward), and then replace the Anthem keel section?? They could even swap spots if the Quantum can fit under the keel. Puzzler here. But that half wall that they close off the dock with to fill with water definitely looks like its closed in the same area as what was the middle of the Getaway. Another thought....if you've seen the special on tv where they build the Disney ship (not at MW, but in general), they did it in two halves in two yards. Sealed up and made a temp wall to water tight the ship, and towed it out to sea and to the second yard to mate with the other half. Maybe they'll do that with Anthem? Float it out and then put it back in and assemble the other half??

  5. If you look at the image of the proposed terminal and parking area, and overlay that onto what is there now (which you can use the tanker drydock as a point of reference which is in that image), you would figure, they will start with building the new parking garage. That garage, is going to be in that lot that, if you self park, you have to cut through after paying your fee at the little booth. You end up stopping and crossing the road into the current lot. But once that garage is up, they will likely make current passengers park in the garage and you wont' have to go into the current lot as that is where the terminal will start construction. So at that point, you'll be using the new lot and old terminal. Notice that the current lot lines you up just about with the back 1/3rd of the ship? Good play to reuse without the need for major dredging. Then once the new terminal is built, or rather the larger half over the old parking lot, they can shift some of the operations and finish the second half of the new terminal. All this should be completed during current cruises.

  6. That's funny cause I just popped over here to say the photos were gone from the photographer's site too. What is strange to me is that they don't have at least the photos from the keel laying on there. Those were even public via Royal the day it happened. Not anything they hadn't already showed us. I'm hoping the photographer just redid the site and dropped the Q link by accident.

  7. I was on this cruise as well. Overall, the weather was mixed, but sunny enough to get two good sunburns:

Embarkation day started cloudy, then cleared up.

The first day (a sea day) was fairly sunny and pleasant.

Labadee was stunning from beginning to end.

Jamaica started sunny and beautiful, then turned quite cloudy by 1:00 or so.

Grand Cayman was a similar experience -- the day started out quite sunny, but turned to clouds and rain by noon. We were seeing lightening in the distance as we headed back to the ship around 1:30.

Cozumel reversed the pattern. The day started sunny, got dark and rainy by late morning, then cleared back up in the afternoon.

The final day (the second sea day) was mostly sunny until about noon. After noon, the clouds increased and alternated sun and clouds. We had a good rain for bout 15 minutes, then went back to partly cloudy.

We changed course slightly a least once because of weather, but I only knew that from discussion during the bridge tour.

All of this is just my recollection, of course!

Agree with the weather here as my family and I were there as well. Staying in an aft JS, I could see we were staying Northbound from Cozumel with the Carnival Magic trailing us instead of going Eastbound to get back to PC. Suspected there was weather to the east of Cozumel given the track and rain we got that day. Guess your bridge tour confirms this.

  8. No more buses from the new terminal. Direct boarding via gangway.:D

I never really minded the buses. Well for embarkation they were fine for us and that's probably because we drove there and were there around 10 and beat the rush. Debarkation I did get a little aggravated as they were always packed and you had to wait in line for a while to get one.

  9. I was looking at those small semi circular blocks and its possible that they are the bases for the RipCord, but it just seems so unlikely at this point. I can't seem to persuade myself that they'd have blocks in line for a top deck piece, even knowing they are building the back half first, at this point without the keel already laid. I'm almost thinking that they are something for inside one of the larger "hollow" blocks. Like something that would go in a promenade or 270. Seems more likely in relation to their progress.

  10. The July 12 webcam image is showing a lot more blocks on the deck. It'll be nice to see them finally put together.

Thanks. Was going to post the same thing. Looks like they have another upper mid ship block in front of the one, closer to the bow of Getaway, that I had pointed out earlier. Perhaps the suspected date of August 5th for keel laying is correct. Or even late!

  11. Was the Dream built the same way as the Magic? I found online that the bow half of the Disney Magic cruise ship was built at the Fincontieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy, and had to meet with the stern section 100 miles away in Marghera. Haven't found any images/videos of the merging yet.

Not sure, Discovery Channel/Destination America show the "Disney Cruise Line" special regularly which shows it.

  12. You are correct in respect to not having to build the keel horizontally (as you obviously have visual evidence of). They can build it vertically in two halves too if need be, and weld them together. That is what the shipyard that built, I believe the Disney Dream, did. They actually did them in two different shipyards, welded a closed hull on one half, and towed it through the ocean to meet up with the other half. But the Quantum block I pointed out can be the correct one based on the fact that they have no choice but to build up at this point given the position of the Getaway versus the length of the drydock.

  13. Your sister may be right. Looks to be in the hump area.

I did some sleuthing of my own on my lunch. I'll attach three images here. It's one of the two circled blocks from the block plan. Likely the orange one. Let me explain why.

Looking at the MW image, you can see that there is a piece toward the back that has a grid with smaller squares. That is for the exhaust pipes. So that gives you a general axis of where the blocks have to be.

Now take a look at the highlighted section of the MW picture. You see a bump out there. If you compare that to the deck plan picture, you can see deck six and above have the bump out while five and below do not. They have the lifeboats, hull, etc so the shape is different.

Back at the MW image, you can also see there are elevator shafts on either side of the block towards the front. Also in this image, you can see there are four floors with cabin spaces toward the outsides.

So if you add all this up, it has to be one of the two blocks circled. Likely you are seeing decks six through nine in that MW picture. I just cannot find a good enough block plan image to figure out if its the white or orange block. But given the bump out, and given the lifeboat locations, I have to say its the higher up block. Would also make sense to be the orange one too due to the fact that the green one above that would be decks ten through 13, or the remaining passenger cabin decks. Enjoy!
