  1. Scott Sanders of the DCL blog found drawings that indicate it'll be RCL.

But RCCL uses CT # 1, the one right next to Grill's, that was specifically built for them for $110 million and opened in 2014. Oasis class vessels have been using it since it opened. CT1 is also 7000 sq ft larger than the new CT3. Does RCCL really need two terminals at PC ? Or will they be leaving CT1 and moving to CT3 upon completion ? And if that happens, who takes over CT1 ?

So many questions, and so few answers.

  2. Port Canaveral has begun demolition of the old Cruise Terminal 3 in preparation for a new $150 million terminal that is expected to be completed by 2020.

The Port Authority has said that they have a cruise line partner involved in the planning but has not identified who that is.

I can't help but wonder if this new terminal might be for Disney Cruise Line to replace their existing terminal which was originally designed for the smaller ships and is frequently very crowded when the larger ships are in port. With three new ships on order, all slightly larger than Dream and Fantasy, I can't help but think DCL would be interested in a new, larger facility for their ships and their guests.

  3. The article only referred to a cruise partner as for the financing of construction. But never mentioned who that is.

I'm wondering if it might be for Disney. They have outgrown their existing terminal, which was designed for ships in the ~2500 passenger range (Magic and Wonder) and gets very crowded when the 4000 passenger Dream or Fantasy are boarding. And they now have three more ships in the 4000 range on order, due in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

  4. Demolition of the old terminal #3 began on 4/27/18 in preparation for a new terminal that will be capable of handling the largest ships, 6000 passengers, and an 1800 vehicle garage. Completion is anticipated toward the end of 2019 or early 2020.

The Port Authority has not announced which cruise line(s) will be using the new terminal.

The existing terminal is currently used by the Victory Casino ship; no word on where they might relocate.

  5. Wasn't sure what you meant at first, because Carnival has the "Whale Tail" smokestack and I was worried I missed something! I think you're referring to the ballast extension off the stern? I think that is called a duck tail on ships.

    100% correct. I had a senior moment. :o:o

  6. I guess the first question is: is the insurance your "primary" coverage? Or "secondary"?

If secondary, you need to file the claim with your primary health coverage first. Whatever they deny, you then file with the travel insurance.

AON is strictly trip interruption/cancellation insurance, not health insurance. DCL has reimbursed us the cost of our prepaid gratuities and taxes/port charges, and AON is supposed to reimburse the remainder of the total cruise cost minus what we paid for the insurance policy itself.

  7. We recently had to cancel a cruise due to illness. We're in the process of filling out claim forms, etc., for AON. Being the first time we've had to make such a claim, I'm curious (and maybe a little apprehensive) about what to expect once I submit the claim, such as length of time until we are reimbursed, any "curveballs" thrown by the insurance company, etc.

Anybody care to share your experiences ? TIA !

  8. Do be aware that the cruise right before and right after the dry dock may see some work in progress.

A few years back, we were on the Wonder for the first cruise following the drydock when the "Alaska package" was added. There was a lot of welding, drilling, sanding, grinding and painting going on every day. Fair amount of noise and odors, but it still beat being stuck at the workplace.

  9. I read through the thread on ScubaBoard and it seems you've narrowed it down to a specific month and a Western itinerary on the Fantasy. Excellent investigative work, BTW. It would seem to me that if you approach DCL from the angle of "what a great PR tool to impress your guests", they might email all the passengers who sailed Fantasy on a Western Caribbean cruise during that month. (Grasping at straws here, but might be worth the effort.)

  10. Yes, on the 7 night cruises you'll be assigned to each of the 3 main dining rooms twice, and one of them three times. Obviously, if you choose to dine in Palo or Remy one night, that will replace the MDR you were scheduled for that night. The menu does change for each night.

  11. I would go for the later time. The ship is usually cleared by Customs for disembarkation by 7:30, but there have been times when the ship's arrival is delayed or there is some delay getting the ship cleared. And once you leave the ship, you still have to retrieve your luggage and go through Customs along with several thousand of your closest personal friends.

  12. yes, the flu this year is very bad....i caught it 3 weeks ago (don't worry, you can't catch it on the forum :D )

What? Haven't you ever heard of.......wait for it.......computer viruses ?

  13. I looked it up--Dry dock was supposedly October 2015. At that time there were changes made in the Oceaneer's Club and Oceaneer's Lab and Satellite Falls was added. So to OP's question' date=' it depends on when in 2015 you cruised![/quote']

I stand corrected. I figured 2016 based on when she arrived in Florida, but she had been launched October 30, 2010, and since drydocking is required every five years, 2015 would be absolutely right. Good detective work, mm !

  14. Dream joined the fleet in 2011, so her first drydock should have been in 2016. I, too, am not sure exactly what changes were made other than the addition of Vanillope's (sp?), the specialty (that's pronounced $$) sweet shop outside Cabanas on the starboard side.
