  1. Thanks Ron! The ports were wonderful, but I must admit the service was the worst service I've had on NCL yet (this was my 5th cruise with them). I was in the elevator with the cruise director and everyone on the elevator was complaining to him about the terrible service, and he said they will be meeting about it so I hope it improves for your cruise! It had mostly to do with bar lines, and service at the free restaurants. Every port we went to, people were complaining to each other about the service. It was remarkably bad. Still had a great time though!

I see you are going in 2 weeks- be sure to check out the comedian (Fred Beville), he was wonderful. I will post my dailies soon for the cruise, I know others were interested in them. Also note: they also cancelled ALL dining reservations that were made in advance (some sort of glitch in their system), so be sure to double check any of yours you made online ahead of time.

Thanks! I hope they listen and the service issues improve! Also thanks for the heads-up on the reservations.

We will check out the comedian. We love going to comedy clubs around here.

I'll look forward to seeing the dailies!

  2. On our most recent cruise, we ate at Ropa Vieja the night before our cruise. The service was great, but the food was what really shined. Everything we ordered had such flavor to it. We started off with the black bean risotto which was insanely good. For entres our group had their creole shrimp and a rice dish with fish in it (cant remember the exact name). All in all it was an excellent meal!

Marmalade was very good, but out best meal in San Juan was at the Ropa Vieja Grill! The mofongo was fantastic!

  3. That is so strange. It was their most popular item

I'm going to miss the pot pie! At least they still have fish and chips.

But, like a moth to a flame, I am drawn to the Chicago Style Hot Dog. Or maybe it's more like the strange fascination we have at a car crash

  4. So, do you guys order a different drink every time you order or do you stick to the same one. I would be bombed if I tried all these, especially on the one day. Lots of different liquors in these mixes and you know what they say | don't mix your drinks" and I am a Scot!!!

    ;););)

The best part of the UBP is being able to try new things without feeling obligated to finish them :D If I paid for a drink, I would feel that I had to drink it, but with the UBP you can try something, and if you don't like it, try something else!

  5. Ha, yes, we've never purchased a package before, this cruise with UBP was an experiment to see how much we'd use it.

So we kept every bar receipt. Every one. The pile is a bit daunting.

I just keep telling myself it looks bigger than it really is due to the folded / crumbled paper making it look so thick...

Still putting off going through it to tally up the numbers... :D

    .

Shortly after carnival introduced their drink package we were on an 8-day cruise on the Breeze and kept track of our drink expenses to see how it compared to the drink package. It turned out that we actually saved $100 by not buying the package.

But, we had the drink package as a promo on a Celebrity cruise and enjoyed the freedom of being able to try anything without feeling obligated to finish it if we didn't like it. So, we have the UBP on our upcoming Start cruise :-D

  6. We spent a few hours reading by the pool' date=' got in the pool to cool off and discovered the water was warm. Didn't cool off very much. We didn't go to the bar inside the restaurant next to the pool. I wish there were more chairs by the pool.

One other thing... The hotel IS on the water (the bay with nice views) but there is no beach or place to swim on the property other than the pool.

We would gladly stay here again pre or post cruise.

    Thanks!

  7. We have been here since 3 PM yesterday for our pre cruise stay. We have no complaints. We are sitting outside at their onsite restaurant waiting on our dinner. We ate here last night' date=' enjoyed it so much we decided to eat here again tonight. If you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

There's no apparent construction going on at the moment, but that's not to say they won't in the future.

    My food is here! 👍

Cool! Thanks for the update! Did you spend any time by the pool? How's the pool bar? We're staying there after our cruise so a nice place to relax will be good!

  8. Thanks so much! There are many waiting to hear about your experience and we cannot change but want to know how to make this the best Christmas cruise despite NCL challenges

I will look for your review post your cruise and hope it is so much better than what is described by recent Star cruisers.

We're on the Star on Nov. 15th so I'll post our review as well. With most ships there is a chunk of the crew that turns over after a TA, so I am hoping that the issues that these folks experienced will be resolved soon.

  9. We haven't cruised with kids, so I'm not the best to give advice on that, but there are water slides. They aren't as big as on the newer ships, but they are there...

Also, Harvest Caye is not open yet, so no one knows what it will be like.

  10. Yep... You pay based on the package cost as mentioned above so there is no additional charges once on board except sales tax when in a US port.

When we find a good bartender or server I usually tip them a $1 or 2 extra once in a while. We met a great server by the pool on one cruise so I tipped her extra. That night we went into one of the bars and she was working there and remembered us and we had great service! We even saw her and a couple of her friends in port one day and she called out to us by name!

  11. Look on tampabay.com Tues Oct 20th.

Thanks... Here is that article if anyone else is interested...

    http://www.tampabay.com/news/business/best-western-bay-harbor-and-hulk-hogan-restaurant-sold-for-345-million/2250503

I talked to the hotel and they don't have any renovations scheduled at this time. We're going to keep our reservation for Nov. 22 so we'll what is going on.

  12. I got the same email about our December reservation, called BW and found out their phone is apparently not working properly at the now Bay Harbor but they gave me this email address to contact them (and I've already received a response with the answer to my question) frontdesk@bayharborhoteltampa.com ~ maybe that will be helpful to you :)

Thanks... I used the e-mail address on their web site and received a response in an hour or so.

This part is a little concerning to me:

"...your reservation(s) should still be honored at the hotel."

Uhh, yeah. SHOULD. I'd be contacting them right away. :)

    .

Yep! That caught my eye as well! They did respond that they would honor my reservation and price.

I read in the Tampa Tribune today the hotel has been sold and will be going through a multimillion dollar renovation. I might rethink my stay only due to construction.

Thanks! I'll search for the article and c heck on the construction schedule!
