  1. We are scheduled for Harvest Caye on December 14th and someone in our group received an email from NCL today canceling their excursion. Their email said the snorkeling, the sea trek & the reef ranger all were no longer available. I wonder why these are being cancelled?

Maybe we won't be the first ship in there?

  2. We are currently booked on the 6/25 Northbound on Coral to Alaska. We have C606 booked, which is a port side partially covered premium balcony on Caribe deck. At the time I booked there were no mini-suites available except those without balconies.

In doing a search, there are now mini's available and the price has gone down so they are the same price as our balcony. There are no more balconies left (for 3 people at least). Here are the options for mini-suites and I'm wondering for those that have experience if any of these mini-suites would be better than what we have or if I should stick with what we have which I think we would be happy with as well.

    Mid-Aft: D604, D612, D614, D616 - all port side uncovered mini-suites

    Mid-Fwd: D332, D322 - port side uncovered mini-suite

    Mid-Ship: A503 - covered mini-suite - starboard side

Part of my dilemna is we currently have at least partial coverage, and I've heard that may be important for Alaska. A503 sounds appealing except it is starboard side, and I've heard it's better to be port side when sailing Glacier Bay (I know - we will be out and about on the decks too! - so not sure that will be a big deal).

We have not made final payment yet (it's due next week) so I believe I can still cancel and re-book.

    Thoughts?

We are on the same cruise. I have a fwd balcony starboard on the Baja deck.
  3. I received this last week after I faxed in my request.

  4. Maybe you have the wrong job. Mine has. That is why I have been at the same firm 25 years.

Sadly, too many people do not tip (enough) voluntarily so a percentage is added. I live in Dallas. I tip 20 % so I am good with this.

I am a professional, work in an office, but recall working as a server in college. So Iam appreciative.

Long lines? An opportunity to meet other folks. But easy to spot and avoid the grumpy ones. The ones who complain about 2 stickin percent!

    sticking? 3%

  5. I think that if I am full after a meal, I don't eat dessert. Whether or not I "paid" for it or not isn't relevant. Basically it is their boat, their rules. Whether we as a consumer of their product chose to abide or not is our choice. Having been in the hospitality business for a number of years, I can tell you that room service is a royal pain. You can't schedule for it, and typically you have to pull someone away from another duty or job (usually a waiter) to cart up a tray. The room steward's carts aren't equipped to take care of dirty dishes, so they sit in the halls or worse pile up in the rooms. Again, this creates a sanitation issue and is more labor intensive because now, somebody has to clean up the mess and haul the dishes back to the commissary for cleaning. Regardless to what people think, there is a cost involved in doing in-room food. So to me, from a corporate and business standpoint asking people to consume food in a facility that was designed for consuming food and properly handle waste and sanitation, isn't unreasonable. I really doubt that asking people to eat in traditional eating venues is going to make the buffets more crowded. Most ships have multiple eating venues, they are open pretty much 24x7. If buffet A is crowded then dining room B or snack bar C most likely isn't. Talking about crowd control simply isn't realistic and isn't enough of a reason to reverse the rule.

I have to ask. Are you an NCL employee snuck in here to CC?

  6. Just last week, Tyrone took the 4 of us on an island wide tour. He drove us all over the place in his Toyota van; it had good air conditioning thankfully since it was a very hot/humid day!

He stopped to buy a few bananas in case we saw monkeys; unfortunately we didn't see any in the fancy golf course area. Later, we did see one scurrying across a rooftop near the Bathsheba area.

He said it would be a 3 to 3 1/12 hr tour, then he would drop us off at Carlisle Beach for as long as we wanted to stay, then he would pick us up and take us back to the ship.

Well, our driving tour ended up being 5 hours! Not hurried at all. We didn't want to go to the beach so went straight back to the ship. We were happily exhausted---maybe partly because of Tyrone's wife's yummy rum punch he brought for us!

There were only 4 of us, he charged $40 per person. We felt we got a very good deal, especially compared to the ship tours. Tyrone is very informative and a very nice and funny guy. He picked us up at the taxi location at the port--about a 4-5 minute walk from the gangway.

I would take Tyrone's tour again if I ever get back to Barbados. :)

That sounds really good. We are booked with him for the same tour in two weeks from now. I think he has 7 people already.

  7. Here a shot of the balconies for M409 and M411, upper ones in shot, on the Royal Pr. that I cropped from a shot I took of that ship from the top floor of the Northport parking structure upon our return from our last cruise and these balconies are not that much larger than the regular ones.

Thank you for the picture. We are in M409 on the Royal in a few weeks.

  8. YEP!:) I told you I would. Have fun! Assume yiu saw the video I posted of what to expect.

    Steve

The video will not open. I never looked at it before so I found the old post and tried to open it but YouTube just has a circle with an exclamation mark. I have never seen that before.

Wait, it just took a few minutes to download. I watched it.

  9. We went out of Houston last thanksgiving on the CB. Houston has the best parking and the best terminal I have ever been in. However, never again. The channel to the gulf is too narrow and therefore the fog will sock you in. We left a day late and missed Belize and Roatan. They did substitute Costa Maya in so we had Cozumel and Costa Maya for ports. It was actually the worst cruise we have ever been on just because of the Houston channel and fog. This area easily fogs in during Nov and Dec from previous experience. The fog hits Galveston too but they can get out to the gulf a lot easier.

  10. Hi Dan! Tyrone just emailed me that he did get in touch with you and yiu booked with him. Have fun and give him my regards. If I ever get back to Barbados I'm definitely hooking up with him again.

    Steve

Yep, just got his email and we are good to go. He said Steve alerted him to my email. Was that you??
