  1. Except for the fact that you accused me of "attacking" an individual with my post. Which I did not do. My post was generalised to include all those on these threads that were pointedly attacking me and others that did not share their point of view.

I accused you of nothing, I simply told you why the post was pulled...I even put a disclaimer to avoid such a comment.....I would think you would appreciate someone clearing it up....

  2. So...........it is acceptable to call others immoral thiefs etc etc but it is not ok to respond that those people judging others as immoral and thieves may be sanctimonious and hypocritical. I never did attack any one idividual. I may a broad sweeping statement that there seems to be some hypocrisy at hand on these threads.

Don't shoot the messenger, I was just answering your question because I saw it the other day....

  3. I like the idea of Theft by Deception. I can get my head wrapped around that better than Shoplifting but I think its more or a morals issue than a legal one.;)

I absolutely agree and an issue of common sense on both the part of the purchaser and the cruise line...

  4. Wow! Did you or your colleagues ever arrest anyone for taking a sip of someone else's drink?

No, I did not, that would be stupid unless a restaurant owner absolutely went nuts and insisted...Different rules on land, in some places that would actually also be against Beverage control laws, there are some weird laws out there, you would be surprised.

  5. I am simply trying to make sense of this whole thing...late or not. No one in their right mind is going to refuse their partner a sip of their drink if asked for.......but that goes against the black/white stealing is wrong in every circumstance and situation. The amount is a moot point...blah blah blah. Common sense and reasoning checked out of this topic 3 days ago.

And it isn't fraud either. It is giving a thirsty person a drink to tide them over until they get one of their own. There is nothing fraudulent or criminal in either situation...it is just life happening in real time...not on a blog.

As I stated the other day to Finely, it is shoplifting in the state she resides, I know because I was a Police Officer in that state for 30 years and had similiar situations. Actually the word fraud from what I remember does not even appear in the NJ Criminal Code, it is called Theft by Deception...

Also, I responded to your posts from the other day and they were not removed because you disagreed with someone but because they had personal attacks within them. My posts were removed also because I responded to yours...

I am making no personal opinions on the actions described in this thread...

  6. Another point to remember with the Specialty restaurants is the price is there for capacity control. If they did not have extra charges, the reservations would be scooped up in five minutes...Many people including my wife use "I paid for the cruise why should I pay extra."excuse which allows the capacity control charge to work...

    Gonzo:

I think we have to be aware that there are people who will avoid paying extra for anything, no matter the cost. Frankly some are just cheap. I know people who will drive 20 miles out of the way to avoid an ATM charge not realizing they just spent more money on gas than the charge would be...

  7. Thanks for writing that. I did Cagney's on NCL Sky and felt that it was a total waste. My local Texas Roadhouse Grill has better steaks than Cagney's and is actually less expensive as well.

Will be on the Millenium in October and have reservations at Olympian - I hope it stacks up to the Tuscan Grille on the Equinox.

Doing Tuscan two weeks from Tommorrow, looking forward to it. By the way, I like Texas Roadhouse also, good steaks...The ironic thing about the Specialty restaurants is that the food served is the equivalent in terms of quality to what was served in the MDR years ago on Celebrity....

  8. The only thing "special" about NCL's speciality restaurants is that they specialize in one specific type of food. The food and service in Celebrity's specialty restaurants are well worth the money. Also, not all are $35, some are $30, some $25. We loved Tuscan Grille.

Agree with the above, have been on both lines and was not impressed with Cagneys, no better than Outback....Celebrity's specialty restaurants are worth every penny...

  9. Shorts are not allowed in the dining room at night.

You choose not to go to the formal dining room because you don't want to dress formally, and don't think that is fair. Hmmm...not sure i get the logic there.

No one forces anyone to dress up on vacation. There are millions of ways to have a vacation that doesn't require it - camping, for example. THe way I see it, if someone chooses to take a cruise, they are committing to all that entails. If they don't want to do that, take a different kind of vacation.

Celebrity does not have two formal dining rooms on any of their ships, on the first night you will see shorts but after that you will probably not be allowed into the dining room.

  10. I was told by RCCL that we will get same priveleges on our first Celebrity Cruise this Fall as we would on RCCL. If so, can you tell me what these perks are now that we finally reached Diamond status on RCCL.

You will get Celebrity's Elite benefits which are not the same as RCCL. Here is a link to the Elite benefits. As FTL said, make sure you sign up for the Captains Club and have your number linked to your reservation.

  11. Hi, cruising Equinox 2nd September from Barcelona. On my previous cruises (QM2 & P&O Ventura) a complimentary laundry room has been available on each cabin deck. Having read recent reviews about the Equinox (of which I am very excited to be going on) somebody has mentionned that no irons are provided due to safety reasons. However they did not state if this was in the cabin (no irons in cabins on previous cruises so I dont expect an iron in the cabin [we're a standard inside]) or in the laundry room? Or is there no laundry rooms at all?

These irons and laundry rooms have served me very very well on previous cruises so am I to expect no facility like this on the Equinox?

Thank you in advance for your response.

    Claire

No laundry rooms fleetwide on Celebrity, irons and steamers are forbidden. Here is a link to the laundry room prices.

  12. seems you all do well on your american ships. did very well on our last cruise on p&o ventura. got £500 jackpot on da vinci diamonds and £500 on a machine called party time so was a very happy cruiser, it paid of our on board account and still returned with some spare.. happy days i'm sure it will not happen this year. roll on december:)

Here's an interesting article on the tax liability on cruise ships..

    http://www.cruise-casinos.com/jackpots.htm

As someone stated the odds are set at the factory but generally they are going to start around 75% or so and work their way up to around 97%. Also, the lower the denominination will have the lower odds with the odds increasing as you go from a penny to five dollars or so..You may have a bank of the same machines all set at different odds, trick is to find the one that is the highest. A couple of posters alluded to them winning at the end of the cruise, this has nothing to do it. In my years on these boards I have seen people referring to winning at the beginning of the cruise, end of the cruise, on sea days, all types of combinations. The #1 myth of slot machines is that they can be changed by the cruise line or casino. As stated earlier the machines are set at the factory and with current technology are not changed. Bottom line is they do not have to change them as even at 97% they get 3% back.

  13. Are you trying to understand the codes Celebrity uses or the shorthand words, or "codes", we use here on cruise critic?

The Celebrity codes are more or less explained in any of the brochures on the ships, or deck plans on their website, that describe the rooms and locations.

Here on Cruise Critic we frequent posters use some codes that are a combination of the codes used by Celebrity (see above) along with some abbreviations. Some common ones:

FV - Family view room - these are larger rooms designed to accommodate larger families.

CC - often used to refer to both Concierge Class rooms or to Cruise Critic. Celebrity recently tiered the Concierge Class rooms so now they might also be referred to as C1, C2 or C3 rooms.

OS - outside rooms which have no balcony (just a window)

Any others you're trying to figure out?

Larry is correct and brings up good points. Another use for CC is Captains Club which is the name of Celebrity's previous cruiser club. So if you see CC it could mean Concierge Class, Cruise Critic or Captains Club...

  14. I always see cabin classes. Please help me to understand what they mean. They are different from ship to ship. where can I get an explanation of the codes they use?

    Thanks

Probably the best way is to go to the Celebrity web site, pick a ship and look up the staterooms. I have included a link for you below on the Solstice. Just click on Stateroom Gallery. As you stated they are not all the same. ie: Only the Solstice Class ships include and Aqua Class Category. If you go more deeply into the web site they will show you the amenities that come with each class...

  15. A year or so ago the Summit was infested with bed bugs. Does anyone know if this a problem since it has been refurbished? We are interested in going on this ship.

    Thank you,

    Rea

If this was a year ago, Summit has not been refurbished since then. She was last done in April of 2008. If this existed, it is not something that would need to be taken care of during a drydock..

  16. I think a lot has to do with news media's negativity towards cruising. Remember the saying in the news world, "if it bleeds it leads." When you listen to the news media you would think that the only place that Norovirus exists is on a cruise ship. Fact is 40 Million Americans get Noro every year and about 4 to 5 thousand get it on cruise ships. Add that to the people who have fallen off of cruise ships and the sensational coverage they get. Again, facts get in the way, if you check the below link which lists man overboard incidents you will find that the large majority are drunks and suicides and not something of malicious intent. One idiot like Nancy Grace can almost ruin a whole industry with sensational and misleading reporting....

  17. Evidently you had a lazy waiter who didn't want to bring the dessert tray around. We had one brought to our table on our back to back Millie cruises this past Nov & Dec. And on the first cruise we sat on the upper level and on the second cruise we sat on the lower level and both waiters brought the dessert tray.

We were also on deck 7 in cabin 7164 for the first cruise and 7166 for the second. We had friends in 7180 for both cruises. All of our cabins were clean and our steward was very attentive - evidently his contract ended or he was assigned a different set of cabins for your cruise becasue he did a terrrific job of cleaning our cabin(s).

However, we did notice that around your cabin number they were working on the plumbing for the bathroom several days (the door to the plumbing is in the hall) and had cleaning equipement outside the room.

There was a recent post in which someone stated the dessert trays have been eliminated. This was very recent, I will see if I can find it..

  18. Just received a letter from Celebrity: Due to pod problems some "slight" adjustments had to be made to the itineary. Turns out they are cutting out the port of Icy Strait Point completely and it will be one more day at sea instead.

As compensation they are offering $100 for interior and exterior, $200 per balcony and $300 per suite. That sum is per cabin not per person.

Do you think that compensation is adequate and have others made experiences about refunds for port adjustments?

Here's a link to where this has been discussed last week....

  19. of course they are acceptable. With new technologys many of the states are issuing birth certificates in other than the old standard forms. Some states are issuing similiar to what you are saying, others have holograms and some are digital. The old thing about a raised seal no longer holds true.
