We’re on the Legend right now. We left Norfolk on the 15th so I’ll share our experience.

We actually stayed at the Hyatt Place Chesapeake on Sunday night! It was good value and was walkable to several eateries in the strip mall off the parking lot, which was a big plus. We paid $33 for a Lyft XL to the port from there.

    At the port:

They had a section of the street in front of the port blocked off for taxi and Uber/Lyft drop-offs with staff and police directing traffic. We had to walk about half a block to give our bags to the porters. It was simple and quick and staff was there to direct us every step of the way.

    Enjoy your cruise!

This is very helpful info. and one of the things we were stressing about. Thanks for that. Walking long distances is not one of our strong points. Now we have to wonder if there will be taxis right there for ride back to the Norfolk Airport?

  2. Thanks to all of you. Since we learned so late about using Norfolk, many of the hotels were sold out. We found the Hyatt Place Chesapeake and booked it. Seems to be right in between the airport and the cruise port.

You guys are the best, thanks again.

  3. We learned yesterday that the Pride 4-21-24 cruise will not be sailing from Baltimore, but will sail from Norfolk.

Southwest was very helpful in changing flights at no additional charge to Saturday from Sunday. Now of course, we need a hotel. Three older ladies in one room. There are so many hotels in the area, so I'd like to ask for recommendations if I could. If possible a place with comp. breakfast and shuttle service would be ideal. Thanks in advance.

I cannot believe Carnival will not return our money for our transportation because it's a private bus. I realize in the contract it does state they do not return it, but I think if you make a mistake by removing my husband from the ship then you should pay for it. Why do I have to be out $234.00 for their mistake.

We were sailing with 5 other couples, and we rented a big bus. Bad enough my birthday and Valentines Day gift didn't happen. This trip (that I didn't take) cost me money that I can't get back.

What's worse is they cancelled him 3 days before the cruise. Then it took them too long to check the information they got wrong. All I want from them is my bus fare.

Thanks for letting me vent, and I hope they never do this to anyone else.

I agree with you 100%. It's their mistake so why should you be out anything. It's bad enough you missed the cruise with your friends. That money is a drop in the bucket to them and has cost them the loss of two customers. Regardless of what the rules say, they should have done the right thing.

  5. We will do a 15 day transatlantic cruise this month on Casino Offer. My husband and I each got the offer. We booked 2 rooms using one offer in each. In one room will be me and my sister. The other will be my husband and brother in law. Each room $200 cruise rate and was                                                                                 given back as OBC

Each room $221.72 taxes, fees, port

                                                                                    charges.

Therefore each room cost $421.72 with $200,00 coming back OBC.

Free drinks in the casino only.

If anyone has done this [booked others in the second cabin] can you tell me the way to go about swapping out people so that the spouses will be together. Thanks so much.

I'm reviving this topic from the dead since it will be relevant to my question.

Is Carnival currently approving OBC for shareholders who are booked on VIFP rates?

Ours were denied. They said although they have approved them in the past, they will no longer do so. Bummer!

  7. Flying from Boston to Rome and cruising trans Atlantic back on Carnival. Checked Fly2 fun, Carnivals air program, and they found ITA direct flight for $291.56. That seems impossible because the ITA site shows the exact flight for over $2,900.

Wondering if anyone has had experience on ITA,  and could share info about it. Although we were given confirmation #'s we can't look at the booking on their site for 48 hours. If something seems too good to be true, it usually is! Did we make a mistake?

It's about 2200 for starting price solo in a 1A, which to me is still a lot of money. ... and not to know if radiance will be ready. I haven't pulled the trigger.

Yeah, we bailed out on it. and booked another cruise. Ours would have been $3200. A lot I think.

Last week we booked a balcony guarantee for the May 2 Panama Canal sailing. I did a mock booking every day (ok, a couple of times a day) and yesterday a balcony popped up.  Called my PVP and got put in that balcony.

Wow, that was pretty lucky. Nice going.

There are 3 or 4 threads all saying that the refit of radiance was canned. So it may not be radiance. You might want to read some of them, they arent too far back.

I'm interested in October 2021 panama, and it's been going up. I wonder if they read the ship might not be finished?

I had heard that also about it being canned. I asked my PVP about it and she said it was sold out of balcony cabins! I doubt that. This search thing is useless. It never tells me about what I ask for. Thanks for your input.

  11. From what I understand the Victory/Radience is still in Spain where it was to undergo a big refurbishment. And then Covid-19 hit! The construction stopped when the shipyard closed. We are interested in a journeys cruise for May 2, 2021 but the Radience is showing only guarantee balcony available. I doubt everything is sold out as we don't yet know the rooms that have been added. They will allow booking of a guarantee. We've had 3 cruises cancelled and hate to book another where the same thing can happen.

If anyone has any inside scoop and cares to share it that would be great. I can't find info. anywhere  telling when Radience will come back into service. Thanks.

Of course you would not see difficulty, you arent affected. Not that it's your business but it's been a while since I saw a doctor, my last 2 gp quit. So I don't have a doctor who knows me or has any of my history. Now the virus hit. I was going to try and go but now waiting for gp office to get better and many dont take new patients. The emergency places, took my dad to 2 and said they dont take anyone with medicare, evidently medicare doesnt pay well. .. now add in doing it within 7 days of your cruise. No bother, easy peasy. No wonder they call your age the me me me generation.

I'm well aware older generation has more risk, duh again. My parents are 94 and 101 and scared to death. Anyone who says over should have to have a letter obviously isnt affected, let the other guy do it, not me me me.

I hear your generation mostly gets their news from headlines, they rarely take the time to read to the 3rd and 4th paragraph of news.

Telling me I'm more at risk isnt exactly news. If im willing to sign something releasing carnival from harm, let it be my choice not you. Good for you a rn. I'm also very well educated and let it be my choice. I havent been anywhere in over 2 months except food and meds. For me and my elderly parents, wear my mask and take precautions... I will be careful on the cruise.

I've even googled trying to volunteer for vaccine trials. Doing what I can to get vaccine as soon as i can be safe. I knew when you posted you had to be young.

PS most people my age say no way would their doctor sign such a letter, but of course you dont get that either. I'm willing to sign a release to carnival.

Agree 100%. Maybe nurses should have to have a letter signed as they are in contact with covid patients more than others!
