Thanks for the feedback. I've had a few issues with the Medallion app, but minor, I don't know how important the profile is, but it seems to think I'm a female and won't let me change it, I'm assuming that can be fixed during embarkation. On food, we're just keeping an open mind, I looked up the MDR menus on Princess and nothing really blew me away but we'll see; I'm full blooded Italian and pizza doesn't thrill me the way it does others, but I will try to get in there and sample it at least once. For the life of me, I can't figure out why they'd send a ship without an indoor pool to Alaska. We're not swimmers, but we enjoyed sitting in there people watching, reading, puzzles, etc. The music was a little loud on HAL's Lido deck too though.
Oh boy. If you thought HAL's Lido music was loud, just wait until you get on the Princess ship. I would bring earplugs if I were you.

That South American Itinerary is amazing! Hal brings on enrichment speakers who present once or twice a day - helps to break up the day. The scenery is spectacular. We spent hours upon hours with our binoculars and cameras glued to our faces. The days went past quickly, and we often skipped any evening entertainment in favour of early to bed and early to rise, so as not to miss the sights. We were in our 50's when we did that cruise...

My last cruise was pretty rough. For a good week I swore I wouldn’t cruise with hal again. Things did get straightened out. A lot of the service staff have been outstanding on my last few cruises and I’d miss that. More than that I love the pinnacle class of ships. I’m not opposed to sailing with Princess either but I do enjoy many more things on hal.
The seas were rough?

I like the HIA because it offers me choice. Once in a while I enjoy a latte, and perhaps a mimosa for breakfast if we’re feeling celebratory. We generally take 1 vacation per year, and I don’t like to feel like I’m being nickle and dimed- I like to treat myself when I’m on vacation. I don’t want to worry about “what time is happy hour? And which bar is it in”?
If I want to take a couple of cans of water ashore, I can. If I want to have a beer with my lunch, I can. If I want a pre-dinner, with dinner and post-dinner drink, I can! I would never (I don’t think!) go over 15 drinks per day however I’m happy to pre-pay for the HIA just so that I don’t have to hear that Ching, Ching in my head every time I order a drink.- 7

If I purchase a wine package, can I request to bring a bottle or 2 to my stateroom? Where would I go to ask? Or if I purchase pre-boarding, can I request that 2 bottles be left in my cabin upon embarkation?

The package was unlimited non alcoholic drinks. I received no notification when this changed. I drink more than 15 times during a day.
yes I’m screwed. Don’t like my post? Move along
You still can have all the tea and coffee you want, and milk and juice at breakfast. The tap water is just fine to drink. I can’t imagine how anyone could drink 15 beverages a day, when you factor in the other stuff.
It’s not that I don’t like your post, but maybe you didn’t know about water/tea/coffee/milk and juice being available?

Maybe I'm a stick in the mud. But fine dining without a nicely starched white tablecloth is NOT fine dining IMO

We've been on the Zuiderdam 5 times over the years. Our last trip was this year 1/2-1/16 through the Panama Canal from San Diego to Ft Lauderdale, Fl. Our cabin was 6141 and it was great. I was impressed with the condition of the ship and the facilities. The ship was only about half full but everything looked good and worked! In fact we felt that the ship was in better condition than in prior cruises on it.
I don't remember the colors of the main dining room but purple and red would not be an attractive setting. We ate mainly in the specialty restaurants. With a half full ship reservation were never an issue. Pinnacle was great but the Canaletto had major improvements over past menu options.
All in all the cruise was pretty awesome. We would not hesitate to go on her again.
I booked 4164! The balcony sold me!

I found newer photos of the dining room in a general online search (no link, sorry) - looks like more creams and blues on new chairs now and not their debut reds and purples, which were pretty jarring When the Vista ships were introduced I swore I would never sail on the Zuiderdam for that same reason - the reds and purples looked just awful in the photos.
But after an Alaska cruise we felt the over all look was more elegant than what we had anticipated, since those colors played off darker "mahogany" walls. But we also had a table way in the back away from those "chandeliers" and enjoyed the midnight sun views out the back windows.
I am pretty sure on a later Zuiderdam cruises they had gotten rid of that earlier jarring color scheme. Good cruises on the Zuiderdam and do like their Signature Suite cabins - between verandah and Neptune - just the perfect size. If they could only squeeze in a Tamarind restaurant this Vista class would be an all time winner.
Do you get extra mariner points for the signature suites? I do have my eye on one, if the extra large balcony cabins are booked. I have an appointment with my PCC tomorrow to confirm my booking and discuss cabins.

I am on the Zuiderdam right now. I’ll take a photo when I go to dinner. The MDR has been toned down.
Looking forward to seeing your photo!

Anyone experience Club Orange on this ship?

Here's a link for the most recent photos of Zuiderdam I could find on Cruise Critic. Not sure when they were actually taken, but the MDR photos still show the gaudy (in my opinion) red/purple color scheme.😕

Yup! That’s what I saw too! Hopefully they will (or have) come to their senses and update that colour scheme!

Hello,
We are hoping to be on the Zuiderdam in 2023. (Sadly we had to cancel 2 cruises this year).
We sailed on the Zuiderdam 10 years ago or more. I recall that the main dining room was red and purple, and didn't appeal to me at all. Have they updated the colour scheme in the MDR?
Any cabin suggestions? We are looking at a balcony - any suggestions on the best category V cabins on the ship? I'm a "balcony dweller", and would love to enjoy a nice big balcony!
If we decide to go with an SS or SZ, and add in club orange, would we be able to book an SY? Is that in the same Meta-category? Would we be able to collect double Mariner points for these?
Thank you very much in advance!
(And Bruce, I did do a search but didn't find the answers to my questions) 🙂

Because your cruise is so far out I would keep tabs on other cabins that may become available as other passengers change their minds. We had VC 6112 on the Eurodam on our 18-day Hawaiian Circle which is just after the aft bumpout and adjacent to the aft elevators. Great location, and we currently have booked VC 6110 for our 12-day Adriatic Dream aboard the now Oosterdam. What I like is no lifeboats/tenders in line of sight, and easy access to the Lido Market and Sea View pool area.
Jack
Hello Jack,
We're hoping to be on the Zuiderdam, which I believe is the twin to the Oosterdam? I see that those 2 cabins - 6110 and 6112 are connecting cabins. Was there any noise from the adjoining cabin?

Seems like a lotta money for a lotta booze, considering both cabin guests must buy it.
You’re not “forced” into purchasing it.
To each their own!
